Standard equipment on ABUS travelling cranes –setting an example

ABUS plugin connectors makecontact easily and reliably. They arealready preassembled and reducerepair and maintenance times to aminimum. Using these connectors, hoists, geared motors and controlunits can be connected up quicklyand easily without the assistance ofan electrician.

Motor circuit breakersoffer additional safety for craneswith ABUS wire rope hoists bylimiting the thermal load on craneand hoist trolley travel motorsin two-phase and severe inchingoperation and when the drivesystem is blocked. After the circuitbreaker has been tripped, there isno need to replace a fuse beforerestarting the hoist or crane.

ABUS contactortype controlsystems bring together all thecontrol signals from the cranesystem. These systems featuremodular design for maximumversatility and easy adaptationto customers’ requirements.Interfaces to the main items ofoptional equipment (radio remotecontrol, signal horn, limit switches,anti-collision devices, etc.) are pre-installed ready for connection. The clear configuration with ductedwiring makes maintenance workeasier. Timers prevent excessiveinching and power contactors aregenerously sized for long servicelives.

ABUS quality – right down to thelast detailABUS travelling cranes are suppliedwith comprehensive high perfor-mance standard equipmentincluding many features often onlyoffered as accessories. These fea-tures make ABUS cranes especiallysafe and reliable and allow preciseadaptation to the customer’sindividual needs. Like the cranesthemselves, each of these com-ponents items meets stringentquality requirements and has beenthoroughly tested.

22

ABUS clamping buffers can beused for a variety of functions:for limiting crane travel, fixinghoists at specific positions, absorbing impact energy orsecuring trolleys against rollingaway. They are adjustable andcan be installed as required. In particular, they can be usedtemporarily, offering considerableversatility. Especially for monorailhoist trolleys, ABUS offers clampingbuffers designed for adaptation tocurrent conditions.

ABUCommander push buttonpendants feature state-of-the-artergonomic design and can be usedwith all ABUS travelling cranes withcontactor-type control systems. They ensure safe activation of allcrane functions and have a slightlyangled configuration for holdingin a natural, low-fatigue position.ABUCommanders feature non-ageing rugged plastic housings thatare corrosion and weather proof. The connection between handsetand control cable is designed withbayonet connections, making itpossible for the handset to bereleased and removed, if required.

The ABUS LISSE load indicatorsystem features a comprehensiverange of switching and monitoringfunctions. The system offers anextremely short load detectiontime of only a few hundredths ofa second, effectively protectingABUS wire rope hoists againstoverloading. The measurementprinciple allows the load on thehoist to be limited without reducingthe lifting height available.

The main functions include:- overload protection- part-load switches- operating hours meter- current monitoring for

motor protection- redundant circuitry for additional

safety- mains power and fault diagnostic- braking with use of motor as a

generator to reduce wearon brakes

- load population recorder (optional)- load display (optional)

The ABULiner is an effectivesolution when precise positioningis required with variable speedhoists. This frequency converteralso allows the maximum speedto be increased above the ratedspeed when lifting part/reducedloads. ABULiners are also availablefor crane and trolley travel.

ABUS accessories:Just what you need for individual solutions

The ABUS tandem control system allows the crane operator to controltwo electrically coupled travellingcranes at the same time. Ideally, theABUS radio remote control systemshould be used in combination withthe tandem control system. With thiscontrol configuration, two craneoperators can control the two cranesseparately, or one operator can con-trol both cranes, either separately ortogether.

Radio remote controlRadio remote controls give craneoperators greater freedom of move-ment, allowing them to choose theposition which gives the best viewof their working area and effectivelysaving time. ABUS offers radioremote controls with joystick orcompact push-button hand heldtransmitter. ABUS radio remotecontrols are also suitable for multi-user operation, with parallel accessto several cranes.

With the comprehensive rangeof accessories offered by ABUS,every ABUS travelling crane can beprecisely adapted to the customer’srequirements, ensuring optimumperformance. The range includesadditional safety devices andequipment for additional functionssuch as electric limit switches, integrated load analysis systems, crane lighting and maintenancewalkways.

24

Page 25: Overhead cranes - MORRIS · load capacities and wider spans on application. 17. The ABUS EWL single girder wall travelling crane: a highprofile solution for the lower working level

ABUS crosstype limit switcheslimit long travel and cross travel, automatically slowing or stoppingthe crane or the hoist at the end ofthe track. These limit switches mayalso be applied for crane zoning ifit is necessary to divert a hoist ona crane around a prohibited area. The switch is operated by aswitching lug installed on thecrane track or on the crane bridge.

The ABUS synchronization control system ensures that evenminor differences in lifting speedcaused for example by differentloads on the hooks are evened outwhen several hoists with the samerated lifting speed are operated inparallel. In this way, differences inthe levels of hooks with the sameor different loads can be kept withindefined limits. The ABUS synchro-nization control system is anelectronic system which can beretrofitted cost-effectively to pole-changing standard hoist motorswithout mechanical modificationsor electronic switches.

Load measurement systemsLIS-SE: Load measurement andevaluation system that measuresthe voltage and current on all threephases of the hoist motor.Optional functions: load display inthe push button pendant and loadpopulation recorder.

LIS-SV: this load indicator systemoffers all the functions of the LIS-SE system, but uses load measure-ment sensors in addition to motorcurrent measurements. This systemis an attractive proposition forsystems with several hoists wherethe overall total load of all hoistsneeds to be limited. Measurementaccuracy increases systemically, with the resultant load able to beshown on the pendant handsetdisplay or LED matrix display.

Load suspension devicescan be used with ABUS cranesfor special material handling tasks. For example, ABUS cranes can beequipped with vacuum lifting unitsfor lifting plates or with C-hooks forhandling coils.

ABUS spring reels keep pushbutton pendants at the heightrequired. Normally, the bottomof the push button pendant ispositioned one metre above theoperating level. Using the springreel, the length of the controlcable can be individually adapted. This is especially important whenoperating a crane from a mezzaninefloor or an assembly pit. The ABUSspring- reels are available withcable lengths of 3 and 4.5 m.

ABUS crane lighting systems effectively illuminate the workingspace under a crane, avoidingthe shadows normally cast bycrane girders working beneathnormal factory lighting. Application-specific requirements include thefollowing: Floodlight with impact-resistant halogen flashlight, cranelights with metal halide high-pressure lamp and LED lamps.

ABUS maintenance walkways allow access to the entire lengthof the crane girder, bringing allthe main components of the cranesystem within easy reach, a majorprerequisite for safe and efficientmaintenance work.

Anticollision deviceThe ABUS anti-collision device pro-tects cranes, preventing accidentalcollision via photoelectric distancemeasurement. Automatic switch-over to a lower speed as the twohoists approach each other is astandard feature.A shut-down function can beincorporated. ABUS can alsosupply collision prevention devices

designed to maintain a specifiedminimum spacing and other specialdesigns.Important: Not suitable to be usedfor distancing required because ofstructural reasons. In such casesthe light barrier system may becomposed of fail-safe componentsand check and malfunction indica-tors.

AZS smooth starting units and SU2 smooth switching relays are the ideal accessories for thesmooth handling of sensitive loadsand goods using pole-changingdrive systems. These electronicsystems allow the crane operatorto control crane and trolley travelsensitively, with adjustable accelera-tion and improved decelerationbehaviour. Depending on individualrequirements, the system can alsobe used separately for crane ortrolley travel.

27
