Distinctive Curriculum Offerings
Curriculum Delivery: Curriculum is delivered in a manner that reflects the needs of our students and ensures meaningful learning experiences. Further, Religious Education is the focal point of our School Community and is integrated into our daily routine so that a Christian atmosphere is fostered as a way of life. Staff at Our Lady of Lourdes plan, assess and report by following ACARA/QSA syllabus guidelines, Toowoomba Catholic Education Policy and Procedures which includes the Diocesan Learning Profile Digital Technology: Computers, interactive smart boards, interactive TV’s, class sets of iPads and laptops and associated software are integrated throughout the School curriculum. Teachers and students view the use of technology as part of their daily teaching and learning. Basic computer skills for year levels are outlined in OLOL's ICT scope and sequence document. Further, these technologies are seen as essential tools in developing, maintaining and extending students' information literacy. Additional Support: Every effort is made to ensure every child is supported to reach their full potential. The emphasis at Our Lady of Lourdes is on participation. All children are encouraged to ‘have a go’ to become the best they can be.
Social Climate Our school acknowledges that parents are the first educators of their children. As a school we support, encourage and nurture the development of the whole child. We provide many opportunities for the wider school community to be part of the teaching, learning and celebration process as our children grow and develop. In supporting the social development of our children and wider community we:
Invite all community members to our weekly prayer assembly. Involve parents and community member in class liturgies and culminating learning
activities. Organise our students in ‘buddy systems’ where our older students are ‘buddied’ with
younger students for games, reading and social support. Incorporate the ‘You Can Do It’ program into the school curriculum and activities to
encourage the foundational skills for success – persistence, organisation, confidence and getting along.
Value respect – respect for self and for one another. The community of Our Lady of Lourdes supports the school’s recently developed Positive Behaviour and Anti-Bullying Policies. Students and parents are reminded of the school's response to bullying through the school newsletters, website and classroom activities. Students are encouraged to speak to a responsible adult if they themselves feel intimidated or are aware of incidents of bullying. The school has three Student Protection Contacts whom the children can make contact with. Classroom teachers are also made aware of their responsibilities through regular student protection professional development. Parents and students are reminded to make contact with their child's teacher for any concerns. Serious behavioural issues are then raised with the Special Needs Committee and Principal. The school has weekly access to a School Counsellor. Once bullying incidents are identified, all persons involved move through the staged process as outlined in the school’s Positive Behaviour and Anti-Bullying Policies.
Organise interschool Gala days with other Catholic Primary Schools in town.
Recognise all Year 6 children as school leaders. These children fulfil many leadership tasks during their final year at the school involving aspects of service to the school and wider community. These involve activities which are by nature focussed on Pastoral, Environmental, Peer Support and Social characteristics.
Each year the P and F Association organise ‘social activities’ for the parent body that are aimed at building community. These activities include the Welcome Barbecue and Christmas Concert.
These strategies ensure that we are developing the spiritual and emotional well- being of our students in the Catholic tradition.
Parental Involvement We recognise that clear and open communication between the school and home is vital to ensure that an optimum learning environment is maintained.

Value Added We are committed to providing an integrated and well-balanced Catholic education in a family atmosphere that reflects the values of the Gospels. We believe the opportunities offered through extra-curricular and social activities (listed above) as well as faith education add significant value to our programmes.
Excellence in Catholic Education-School Renewal and Improvement Process School Renewal and Improvement is an on-going process of self-evaluation measured against a commonly agreed set of criteria. It informs action planning at the school level to identify areas of strength and areas for improvement. Above all, Catholic schools must be good schools with a strong learning orientation and a strong sense of purpose. This process provides an opportunity for each school to reflect on 4 Domain areas: Catholic Life and Religious Education; Learning and Teaching; Leadership for School Improvement; Strategic Resourcing. Each of these domains has elements (24 in total) which are reviewed on a cyclical basis and plans for improvement developed if necessary In 2015, the elements of Partnership with Parish, Curriculum Structure & Provision, Professional Learning, ICT resourcing and Use of Resources & Facilities were reflected on, reviewed and strategically planned for.

Parent Satisfaction
There are a number of ways in which Our Lady of Lourdes measures parent, student and teacher satisfaction. Increasing enrolments is indicative of positive parental feedback to others. Positive parent feedback to classroom teachers and through our Parents and Friends Association, which meets regularly throughout the year, is another avenue where parents can present feedback. Parent, Staff and student satisfaction data is also collected in connection with the Excellence in Catholic Education (EiCE) renewal process. In addition to this, Student satisfaction is measured through student attendance and the level of respect and caring displayed by all our students for others in the School community. Teacher satisfaction is measured through an open forum during fortnightly staff meetings and the cooperation and professional courtesy that are displayed daily.
