BABYSITTING CO-OP FOR ADORATION Stay at home mothers or working mothers who would like to make a holy hour of Adoration at the Divine Mercy Chapel Wednesdays 11 a.m. to NOON. We can take turns watching each others children during that time. Between all of us cooperating by taking turns watching each other’s children we can each make a holy hour once a month or once every 5-6 weeks, depending on how many Moms participate. Totally flexible to make it easy and workable for us. We can even use the Youth Room in the Parish Center to meet and watch our kids! Let’s share this holy hour to take time with the Lord Je-sus in the Blessed Sacrament; truly present Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. To thank Him for all our blessings and to ask his help for all our needs as we raise our children to know Him and love Him and serve Him so that they can be happy in this life and spend Eternity with Him in heaven in the next life. CONTACT LORLYN TURMAN AT 254-5510 to talk about it!

Are you hiding God’s gifts? This week’s gospel begins with Jesus instructing the dis-ciples about using one’s gifts for the right reason and in the right way. One is not given a gift, in other words, a “talent,” and then hides it away for either safe keeping or lack of in-terest. The stewardship way of life is not private nor meant to be exclusive. It is not about using our gifts for only our-selves or not at all. This is one of those gospels that will challenge us to use what God has given to us wisely and generously, not just for ourselves but in a much bigger way. But, the temptation we all have is to use God’s gifts spar-ingly and even hesitantly. Is that what God intended when He gave us those gifts? The gospel for the 25th week of ordinary time should shake us up a bit especially if we have an attitude of “limited stewardship.” First of all there is no such thing. Secondly, the words in the gospel say it best. “For there is nothing hidden that will not become vis-ible, and nothing secret that will not be known and come to light.” There is something very important in these words that every pastor, every parish, every Christian may need to know and take very seriously. All that we have and are is given to us is by God’s will. It may be common for us to think of ourselves as a “self-made man or woman” think-ing we are what we have personally accomplished. We of-ten think we have earned what we are and what we have. Most often, however, what we have is the result of what gifts God gave us to use. I do however, understand the re-sistance and the hesitation to accept stewardship as a way of life. I’ve been there and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t thank God that I now know how valuable and essential it is to my life as a disciple of Jesus Christ. I un-derstand fully what it means to be that disciple because I have been shown what it means to live stewardship as my way of life. All of us have. So, what is stopping us to em-brace it more fully and accepting the graces that can come from it? Are we hiding God’s gift to us? This understanding and insight I have about steward-ship, God has given to me to use and not hide to myself. I am sometimes criticized and ignored because of it. How-ever, if the words of today’s gospel are true, and they most certainly are, then what I know must be shared and not hid-den away for lack of courage or dedication to a way of life that is understandable and practical in being a Disciple of Jesus Christ. Stewardship as a way of life is not about rais-ing funds. It is about raising faith. It isn’t about increased offertory, although that happens naturally. It is about be-longing to a parish family and doing our part to keep the family going strong in practicing our Catholic Faith. It isn’t about using our talents as a last resort. It is about using our God given talents as a natural response for our gratitude for all God has done for us.

Fr. Dave

The Treasure of Our Soulby Scott Hahn

Dr. Scott Hahn, internationally known theologian and author, explains the inestimable value of the Creed as a sure means of communicating the life-giving faith of the Apostles and as an in-dispensable source of unity for the Church. Dr. Hahn also brings to light how the Creed has served as a time-tested wellspring of meditation by which a believer can deepen his or her relationship with Christ, making it, in the words of St. Ambrose, “the treasure of our soul.” “After listening to this talk, I can no longer merely recite the Creed, but feel compelled to pray it with heartfelt gratitude.”

vocation view — God calls people at different times and in various ways. You’re never too old or too late to give your life to God. Generosity is his hallmark. (Matthew 20: 1-16)

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION In our First Read-ing from the Book of Isaiah, God reminds us that He does not think in the same way that we do. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts.” That is quite clear in our Gospel today from Matthew, which relates the Parable of the Work-ers in the Vineyard. In the Gospel para-ble, God (who is repre-sented by the landown-er) does something which from our human perspective may seem unfair and unjust. What we must keep in mind is that the landowner did not treat anyone unfairly. He may have seemed more generous to some than to others, but again that is from our perspective. We can be absolutely certain that God will never be

2017 ~ The 100th Anniversary of the Apparitions and Messages of

Our Lady of Fatima

Continued next week (www.anf.org)

The Third Secret On July 13, 1917, Our Lady of Fatima revealed to the young seers, Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta three secrets or a secret in three parts, only later to be revealed at the appointed time. The first secret is the vision of Hell which Our Lady showed to the children, and which, though lasting only a moment, was graphic and terrifying. The second part of the secret is Our lady’s warning of a chastise-ment to come if her requests were not heeded. Both secrets were revealed by Sister Lucia in 1941. The third secret the seer omitted in her memoirs. She only wrote about this third secret in January, 1944, at a re-quest of the Bishop of Leiria, Dom José Alves Correia da Silva. On June 26, 2000, in accordance with specific instructions from His Holiness, Pope John Paul II, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith released the text of the third secret.

This is the Vatican’s official English translation of the text of the third secret as published on the Vatican Website:

J.M.J. The third part of the secret revealed at the Cova da Iria, Fatima, on July 13, 1917: “I write in obedience to you, my God, who commands me to do so through his Excellency the Bishop of Leiria and through your Most Holy Mother and mine. “After the two parts which I have already explained, at the left of Our Lady and a little above, we saw an Angel with a flaming sword in his left hand; flashing, it gave out flames that looked as though they would set the world on fire; but they died out in con-tact with the splendor that Our Lady radiated towards him from her right hand: pointing to the earth with his right hand, the Angel cried out in a loud voice: ‘Penance, Penance, Penance!’ “And we saw in an im-mense light that is God: ‘something similar to how people appear in a mirror when they pass before it’ a bishop dressed in white ‘we had the impression that it was the Holy Father’. [We saw] other bishops, priests, men and women religious climbing a steep mountain, at the top of which was a large Cross…Before reaching this point, the Holy Father passed through a big city half in ruins. He trembled with a halting step, afflicted with pain and sorrow, praying for the souls of the corpses he met on his way; hav-ing reached the top of the mountain, on his knees at the foot of the large Cross he was killed by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows at him, and in the same way there died one after another the other bishops, priests, men and women religious, and various lay people of different ranks and positions. Beneath the two arms of the Cross there were two Angels each with a crystal aspersorium in his hand, in which they gathered up the blood of the martyrs and with it sprinkled the souls that were making their way to God. (Tuy, Spain, 3-1-1944).”

Reading I : Isaiah 55:6-9Seek the Lord while he may be found.• In the reading from Isaiah, God’s justice is

measured by the demands of mercy.• The prophet tells God’s people in exile that a

return to their land is possible.• Only in faith would the people be able to seek

the Lord and turn from their evil ways.

Reading II : Philippians 1:20c-24, 27aTo me, life means Christ.• The Letter to the Philippians was written when

Paul was imprisoned.• In today’s passage, Paul asks the Philippians to

imitate Christ.• Even in prison Paul was willing to continue

working in the vineyard, knowing that his reward would be far greater than he could imagine.

Gospel : Matthew 20:1-16aThe parable of the vineyard.• Throughout the Gospel of Matthew, the author

gives new interpretations to Jewish laws.• Today’s parable shows the power and

generosity of God, along with the need for human willingness.

• Jesus’ parable teaches that God is merciful to all.

Prayer for Catechists

CATECHETICAL SUNDAY 2017

Prayer for Catechists

O God, our Heavenly Father, you have given us the gift of these catechists to be

heralds of the Gospel to our parish family. We lift them up to you in thanksgiving

and intercede for them concerning their hopes and needs.

May we be attentive to the presence of your Word in them, a Word that lifts up and affirms, calls forth and challenges, is compassionate and consoles.

We pray that our parish family will always be blessed with those who have responded to the call to share in Christ’s prophetic mission as catechists. May we too be open to the universal call to service that Christ addresses to all of his disciples, contributing our gifts to the communion of faith, the Church.

We ask this in Jesus’ name.

Amen.

Continued from page 4 - REFLECTIONunfair to us. The Lord may bestow greater blessings on others, some of whom again from our perspective may seem less deserv-ing. God is a righteous God. Through stewardship we acknowledge that everything comes to us from God. All our blessings may seem to be more or less than we deserve, but if we are grateful for what we have and what we are, we will then recognize God’s generosity and His grace. The important thing to us should not be and cannot be whether we are first or last. What is central is that we are part of the Kingdom of God. That should be sufficient for us. We get into trouble when we conclude that God should think the way we do.
