WINNIPEG JETS VS. OTTAWA SENATORS Canadian Tire CentreSaturday, November 8, 2014 – 6:00 PM (CT)Game 15                (7-5-2) Road Game 8        (4-2-1) GAME PREVIEW The Winnipeg Jets (7-5-2) salvaged a shootout point in a loss on Thursday at MTS Centre and continued their current point streak of 5-0-2. The Jets are matching up on Saturday against a six-game (4-0-2) home point streak held by the Ottawa Senators (7-3-2), whohave yet to lose in regulation at Canadian Tire Centre. Winnipeg was winless against the Senators last season losing both games inregulation. The Jets last game in Ottawa was Jan. 2/14 (3-4 L), which was 10 days before Paul Maurice was hired as Winnipeg’s headcoach. The Jets’ leading scorer versus Ottawa in 2013-14 was Dustin Byfuglien who racked up four points (2G, 2A) in the two-gameseason series. The Sens’ Milan Michalek matched those totals for Ottawa’s point lead versus Winnipeg. TEAM NOTES Putting points togetherSince Oct. 26, the Jets have put up a record of 5-0-2, earning 12-of-14 possible points in the standings. It’s been 14 days since the Jetshave lost in regulation, last dropping a game on Oct. 24 versus Tampa Bay (2-4 L). The last time the Jets collected at least a point inseven straight games was near the end of the 2012-13 season when Winnipeg put together a seven-game stretch (6-0-1) from Apr. 6-22/13. The franchise record for consecutive games with a point is nine games, which was set from Dec. 9-28/05 (6-0-3) Canadian ClubThe Jets had a favourable record against rival Canadian teams last year collecting a mark of 8-5-2. Ottawa was the only Canadianteam that Winnipeg had a losing record against, as the Jets were 0-2-0 when facing the Sens in 2013-14. The Jets once again have 15Canadian matchups this season. The Jets host the Sens in their second matchup this season on Mar. 4 at MTS Centre. Punch-up with PittsburghThe Jets and visiting Pittsburgh Penguins clashed in an emotionally charged, penalty-filled, high scoring affair on Thursday at MTSCentre. Through six fighting majors, three misconducts, 21 minor penalties, zero power play goals, and a grand total of 102 penaltyminutes, the Penguins came out on top in a shootout, 4-3. That PIM total of 102 ranks as the second-highest total in the NHL thisseason. The most penalized game to this point was between San Jose and Anaheim on Oct. 26 when the two combined for 165 penaltyminutes. Potent PKWinnipeg’s penalty kill matched up against an impossibly efficient Pittsburgh Penguins power play on Nov. 6 (3-4 SOL). Leading intotheir game on Thursday, the Penguins had held an efficiency on the road of 42.9% while on the man advantage. The result through fivePenguins power plays was zero goals against, even after :29 of a two man advantage for Pittsburgh. The Jets’ penalty kill is rankedthird-best in the NHL, operating at a rate of 89.3% so far this season. They’re riding a streak of 18 successful penalty kills dating backto Oct. 28 at NYI (5-3 W). Their road PK percentage is the best in the league at 92.6%. The Jets’ most utilized penalty killer is JacobTrouba, averaging 3:40 SH TOI per game. Part of their success on the PK has been blocking shots. Winnipeg’s leaders in thatcategory are Mark Stuart (31) and Trouba (31). PLAYER NOTES Ladd strikes firstLeading by example, team captain Andrew Ladd has led the way on the box score four times this seasons. Ladd is tied for the NHLlead in game-opening goals (other: Corey Perry). He scored first again on Nov. 6 versus Pittsburgh (3-4 SOL). This pattern is notuncommon for Ladd as he has led the Jets in game-opening goals in each of the past two season, in 2013-14 (7) and 2012-13 (3).Ladd has compiled 26 game-opening goals while with the Jets franchise and 35 in his NHL career. The Jets’ record in games Laddopens the scoring is 3-0-1 this season.

Winnipeg Jets: Media Notes

Gordie Hat TrickIn an effort to help the Jets win (and in honour of Gordie Howe), Evander Kane registered a goal, an assist, and a fighting major onNov. 6 versus Pittsburgh (3-4 SOL). Kane is the second Jet to record a “Gordie Howe Hat Trick” this season by recording one of eachstatistic. There have only been six instances of a Gordie Howe Hat Trick this season and two of them are by Winnipeg Jets. The otherwas Blake Wheeler, who scored a twice, recorded an assist, and had a fight on Oct. 9 at Arizona (6-2 W). The remaining four playersto accomplish the feat are Marco Scandella, R.J. Umberger, Jamie Benn & Paul Gaustad. Evander effectThe Jets lost Evander Kane to injury in the first game of the season on Oct. 9 at Arizona (6-2 W) and didn't have him back in theirlineup until nine games later on Oct. 30 in New Jersey (1-2 SOL). Kane’s marker against the Penguins was a major one in his career as it was his 100th NHL goal. The 500 game clubThe Jets had their second entrant into the 500 NHL games club on Thursday with Bryan Little hitting the major career milestone. MarkStuart reached the mark on Oct. 12 in Los Angeles (1-4 L). Little and Jim Slater are the only two active Winnipeg Jets to play 500games with the franchise but defenceman Toby Enstrom will be joining that select club very soon. Enstrom has played 498 games withthe Atlanta Thrashers/Winnipeg Jets and is scheduled to play career/franchise game 500 on Tuesday, Nov. 11 in Montreal. UPCOMING MILESTONESDustin Byfuglien is two penalty minutes away from 600 in his NHL career…TJ Galiardi is three games away from 300 in his NHL career…Michael Frolik is three points away from 200 in his NHL career… JET-SENATOR CONNECTIONS
