RSVP-TE:

Resource Reservation Protocol – Traffic Engineering is used to

denote the extensions of RSVP

Features

RSVP is a signaling protocol.

Using RSVP, a source IP host (sender) sends a message to a uni-

cast or a multicast IP destination indicating the characteristics of

the traffic it will generate.

Messages

Path and the Resv:

Used to establish reservations for a session.

PathTear and ResvTear:

Used to delete the session state (and the reservation).

PathErr and ResvErr:

Error notification messages.

ResvConf:

Sent to a receiver to confirm a reservation




Messages

Path:Path message is sent follows the normal route from thesender to the receiver . It will create Psb in the intermediate nodes.

Resv:The Resv message is sent from the receiver to the

sender carrying thesource reservation request to create Rsb in

the intermediate nodes.

Messages

PathErr: The PathErr message is sent from an intermediate routerto the sender using the previous hop information to indicate error

conditions.

ResvErr: The ResvErr is sent from an intermediate router to

the receiver to indicate error conditions.

Messages

PathTear:

The PathTear message is addressed to the receiver of the data flow

to delete the Path state and Resv stateof a session.

ResvTear:

The ResvTear is transmitted hop by hop. The reception of a

ResvTear by a node results in the removal of the Resv state for

the session.

The usage of the Path and Resv messages to request and assign

labels for LSP establishment

The ability to specify an explicit route when establishing or rerouting

an LSP

The ability to specify bandwidth and other parameters when

establishing an LSP

The ability to associate related LSPs

A new Hello protocol for maintaining the adjacency between RSVP

peers

Rapid Re-transmission

Rapid re-transmission is used to ensure the success of messagetransmission.




Confirm Mechanism

Two kinds of confirm messages:

Carried message: the MESSAGE_ID_ACK object is carried by

the other messages.

Generated message : The MESSAGE_ID_ACK object is carried

by the ACK message which is generated directly when there is

no other message.




Soft State Refresh

In the case of RSVP, the refresh message adapted to route changes,

that is, a Path refresh message is sent to the current next hop

toward the destination.
