COURSE DESCRIPTORS: COSMETOLOGY (HAIR-STYLING – 5 CREDIT) This evening course is comprised of five 1-credit courses that offer flexibility to students whether at the introductory, intermediate or advanced levels. Students can progress through each course in this highly individualized program according to their interest and commitment. Note that there is an additional fee of $80 for the specialized materials used in the course. ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS 30-1 (Prerequisite: ELA 20-1 or ELA 30-2) English Language Arts 30-1 is an approved Alberta Education 5-credit course. There are 5 general outcomes:

a) Explore thoughts, ideas, feelings and experiences b) Comprehend literature and other texts in oral, print, visual and multimedia forms, as

well as respond personally, critically and creatively c) Manage ideas and information d) Create oral, print, visual and multimedia texts, and enhance the clarity and artistry of

communication e) Respect, support and collaborate with others

Final course mark is based on 70% class mark and 30% Diploma Exam. Diploma Exam dates are as follows: • Part A - Wednesday, June 12 at 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. • Part B - Thursday, June 20 at 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS 30-2 (Prerequisite: ELA 20-2 or ELA 20-1)

English Language Arts 30-2 is an approved Alberta Education 5-credit course. There are 5 general outcomes:

a) Explore thoughts, ideas, feelings and experiences b) Comprehend literature and other texts in oral, print, visual and multimedia forms, as

well as respond personally, critically and creatively c) Manage ideas and information d) Create oral, print, visual and multimedia text, and enhance the clarity and artistry of

communication e) Respect, support and collaborate with others

Final course mark is based on 70% class mark and 30% Diploma Exam. Diploma Exam dates are as follows: • Part A - Wednesday, June 12 at 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. • Part B - Thursday, June 20 at 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

MATHEMATICS 30-1 (Prerequisite: Mathematics 20-1 or Mathematics 30-2) Mathematics 30-1 is an approved Alberta Education 5-credit course. There are 3 units of study: • Trigonometry • Relations and Functions • Permutations, Combinations and Binomial Theorem

Final course mark is based on 70% class mark and 30% Diploma Exam. Diploma Exam date is as follows: • Wednesday, June 19 at 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

MATHEMATICS 30-2 (Prerequisite: Mathematics 20-1 or Mathematics 20-2) Mathematics 30-2 is an approved Alberta Education 5-credit course. There are 4 units of study:

1. Logical Reasoning 2. Probability 3. Relations and Functions 4. Mathematics Research Project

Final course mark is based on 70% class mark and 30% Diploma Exam. Diploma Exam date is as follows: • Wednesday, June 19 at 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION 35 (3-CREDIT) Accreditation for this Grade 12 Religious Education (Roman Catholic) 35 – In Search of the Good (3-credit) course is granted by Alberta Education. In Search of the Good challenges students to understand themselves as moral persons called to discipleship by living the way of Christ. Through an examination of ethical theories, the revelation of Sacred Scripture, and the lived experience and teaching of the Catholic Church, the course invites students to mature as active participants in their faith. Please note: this course is open to current Grade 12 students only. SCIENCE 30 (Prerequisite: Biology 20, Chemistry 20, Physics 20 or Science 20) Science 30 is an approved Alberta Education 5-credit course. There are 4 units of study:

1. Living Systems Respond to Their Environment 2. Chemistry and the Environment 3. Electromagnetic Energy 4. Energy and the Environment

Final course mark is based on 70% class mark and 30% Diploma Exam. Diploma Exam date is as follows: • Thursday, June 27 at 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
