Medical Orthopedics Altru’s medical orthopedics team provides non-operativecare for sports injuries, chronic injuries and otherdisorders of the musculoskeletal system. RADIOLOGY SERVICES

Radiology Services Altru’s Radiology Services consist of professionalsspecializing in the prevention, diagnosis and treatmentof disease using a variety of imaging techniques such asradiography (X-ray), ultrasound, computed tomography(CT), nuclear medicine, including positron emissiontomography (PET), and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI). » Positron emission tomography and computedtomography (PET/CT) is a diagnostic tool combiningNuclear Medicine and CT to detect cancer, stage itsprogression and monitor the success of therapy.

» Interventional radiology provides minimally invasiveprocedures for the treatment and management of avariety of acute and chronic disease conditions.

» Nuclear medicine evaluates the blood flow andfunction of the body’s organs. It also providesradioactive therapies for some cancer types.

» Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) providesimages of the patient’s anatomy for specificconditions using magnetic and radio-frequencyenergy.

» Ultrasound, use of high frequency sound waves tocreate real time and cross sectional images ofanatomy, including noninvasive vascular imaging.

DIABETES CENTER

There are more than 29.1million Americans livingwith diabetes. That’s 9.3percent of the population.

Altru’s Diabetes Center offers a complete range oftreatments for all types of diabetes, including: type 1,type 2 and gestational (pregnancy). Our physicians,nurse practitioner, registered dietitians (RD) andcertified diabetes educators (CDE) work as a team tobring lifestyle, medications and current technology(including insulin pumps and continuous glucosemonitoring) together to develop personalized plans forpatients of all ages. Our goal is to help patients reachtheir healthcare goals aligned with the AmericanDiabetes Association’s Preventative Care Guidelinesthrough the American Association of DiabetesEducator’s seven self-care behaviors: healthy eating,being active, monitoring, taking medication, problemsolving, reducing risks and healthy coping.

CDEs and RDs coach patients on diabetes self-management education and training (DSME), which is acollaborative process through which people withdiabetes gain the knowledge and skills needed tomodify their behavior and successfully self-manage thedisease and its related conditions. The overallobjectives of DSME are to support informed decision-making, self-care behaviors, and problem-solving andactive collaboration with the healthcare team in order toimprove clinical outcomes, health status and quality oflife.

In addition to DSME, Altru’s Diabetes Center offers aBASICS Class for patients who have been recentlydiagnosed with type 2 diabetes, are on Medicare andare not taking insulin. This class is a three-part series(90 minutes each) taught by a certified diabeteseducator.
