    Official Newsletter

    September came

    soaring high with ORNAP

NMC as it held its 8th

    Regional Annual

    Convention and Scientific

    Meeting last September 1,

    2013. With its theme,

    Developing Through

    Challenges: Soaring

    Perioperative Nursing to

    New Heights, the officers of

    the ORNAP NMC indeed

soared with their aviatorthemed uniforms as they

    graced the halls with

    distinguished guests and

    participants coming from

    all over the country.

    Spearheaded by

    keynote speaker Hon. Betty

    F. Merritt, ORNAP NMCs

    event indeed soared as the

    Operating Room Nurses as

    an organization and as

    individual nurses, were

    encouraged to imbibe

    The Philippine Nursing

    Profession Roadmap of

    2030 Towards Good

    Governance. Specifically,

    the Northern Mindanao

    Chapter, as represented by

Operating Room Nurses Association of the Philippines, Inc. (ORNAP) Northern Mindanao Chapter www.ornap-nmc.weebly.com

    8TH REGIONALANNUALCONVENTION ANDSCIENTIFICMEETING....1

    ORNAP NMC

Holds its 8th Regional Annual Convention and Scientific Meeting

    our very own chapter

    advisers, Teofanes D.

    Guinita and Lilibeth E.

    Diana, as well as our

    chapter President Amina

    M. Busara, was indeed very

    fortunate to have been

favored by the member ofthe Board of Nursing herself,

    and the ORNAP National

    officers as a preconvention

    meeting took place as one

    of the

    many beginnings of the

    Operating Room Nurses

    Associations own

    roadmap.

    Included in the

    convention proper were

    lectures given by notable

speakers as follows: NewTrends in Surgery: MIS in

    Orthopedics by Dr.

    Jerome Anthony S.

    Asuncion, Perioperative

    Infection Prevention:

    Moving from Idea to

    Innovation by Marilu

    Densing-Dizon and

    Forensic Nursing by Dr.

    Jericho Q. Cordero.

    Moreover the city mayors

    visible support of the event

    was indeed an

    embodiment that despite

    challenges experienced by

    the host city (Cagayan de

    Oro) during the past

months, nurses will neverstop discovering new

    heights. As evidenced by a

    great response from

    participants and new

    memberships, success was

    fully claimed.

    Congratulations to

    the outgoing and incoming

    officers for a successful

    take-off!

    Doreen Grace A. Contreras, RN

Congratulations to the Operating Room Nurses

Association of the Philippines, Inc. (ORNAP) on your 8 th

Annual Regional Convention. It is indeed a welcome

development to have an annual convention where yourmembers can have a venue to voice out their concerns

and suggestions on how to make your organization better.

And I thank the ORNAP for making me a part of this event.

I commend your leadership for bringing together

our perioperative nurses and ensuring that your voices are

    heard.

I have always been very supportive of the Nurses

Associations in the country. I have been working with the

Philippine Board of Nursing in filing a bill to strengthen the

Nursing Practice Act of 2002. I know how important the role

of our nurses, especially the operating room nurses, is and I

know the part they play in saving lives. Rest assured, I will

work doubly hard in the House of Representatives to ensure

that our nurses are given the proper recognition and the

    commensurate benefits they deserve.

Being a nurse, especially a perioperative nurse canbe quite challenging but it also presents numerous

opportunities to be great. Take advantage of these

opportunities and remember that every time somebody

enters an operating room, they put their lives in your hands.

Always live up to the highest standards of your

profession and never forget how valuable you are to the

Filipino people. As US author and poet Maya Angelou once

said, They may forget your name but they will never forget

    how you made them feel.

Thank you very much and more power to the

    ORNAP

Cong. Rufus B. Rodriguez (2nd District of Cagayan de Oro)
