Learning from Trends and Stories in Disruptive Customer Platforms

A disruptive innovation is an innovation that helps create a new market and value network. This term describes great innovation initiatives at Salesforce to improve a product or service by designing the idea for a different set of consumers in a new market. Salesforce recently deployed an ideas platform as another means of collecting users’ innovation ideas. Salesforce has successfully enabled a leading user innovation, and through strategies, the company has provided an excellent example of how to monetize virtually all user innovations.

Open Innovation and Inter-Organizational Collaboration

When we speak about innovation and change, there are a few common challenges that all companies face. One is to support both explorative and exploitative thinking, and another is to provide framework conditions for internal and external development, as well as the exchange of ideas and inventions. The people factor, leadership, processes and strategy are not the only prerequisites for mastering these challenges; they have to be combined with intangible factors such as cultural elements, common sense issues, or simply the balance of corporate and personal values. How our organization remains flexible and alert at all times, ready to exploit the opportunities that arise from our markets on a day-to-day basis, will be shown in the presentation.

Impassioned innovators are conceiving new technologies that have the potential to improve lives on a grand scale. In people’s offices, garages and workshops inspired ideas are being worked out into physical form, going through countless painstaking iterations in the process. I’ve spent most of my career working to find new ways to foster the wealth of ideas that spring from the imaginations of people around the planet. In this presentation, I will talk about some of the strategies and tools used to find these innovations as well as some case studies which reduce the underlying principles to practice.
