Omeprazoie prevents ulcer recurrence Maintenance therapy with omeprazole
significantly reduced duodenal ulcer relapse compared with placebo.
Relapse occurred in 16/65 patients who received omeprazole 20mg 3 times weekly, in 19/64 patients who received omeprazole to mgjkgjday and in 52/66 patients who received placebo, for 6 months. Ulcers had been previously treated with omeprazole. 55 of the patients who relapsed had openly received omeprazole 20 mgjday and healing had occurred in 54; these patients received maintenance omeprazole therapy and ulcer recurrence occurred in 10 patients (all were smokers).
