FOREWORD
Courage and sacrifices in collabaration with determination and guts
banking upon talent, knowledge and hardwork along with a blend of
perseverence and patience and a never ending enigmatic zeal for achieving
excellence. That in all sums up IIT ROORKEE MOTORSPORTS for you.
DETERMINATION and COMMITMENT to unrelenting pursuit of our goal is
what that has defined us over the years and what shall ever.
With a new bull in the form of FS-
UK-2015 standing across its path
and an electric vehicle as its
armour, the team is yet again leav-
ing no stones unturned for acheiv-
ing its ultimate quest.
From the evangelistic head start of a
novice in FSAE-AUSTRALASIA 2011
to the reiteration of the ripping suc-
cess in FS-UK-2013, the stories say it
all.

Suspension & Steering
Completing full vehicle dynamic simulations and initiating the fabrication process are the team’s top priorities next month.
The team has been working extremely hard during the designing phase. It was only possible after extensive research from various literature and forums thatthat the team could pin down a specific configuration, by performing many it-erations for both the systems. The CAD for both the systems has been finalized.
The team has decided to build an elec-tric race car this year. The suspension, steering systems are being designed to overcome the geometric complexities which were faced the last time. A dynamic analysis is being done to ensure that the systems are reliable before fabrication.

Braking
Over the past one month, the team has been working upon its CAD model which is expected to be completed later this month. Henceforth, the fabrication will begin.
Many changes are being implemented in the braking division in the new car as compared to the previous car. The team is planning to design a braking system with less weight and have an adjustable brake assembly for driver’s comfort. Also an adjustable brake bias-inging switch will be used which will facili-tate better driver control.

Structural
The structural team has successfully designed the chassis for the Electric Ve-hicle. The team aims to reduce the car’s mass from 350kg(previous project design) to 250 kg. We have increased the torsional rigidity of chassis from 1500Nm/Deg to 1800Nm/Deg. We aim to incease it upto 2000Nm/deg & work on shape optimization.
The team has worked on designing & optimization of brake rotor to have better structural stability & heat dissipation properties.
Currently the team has been working on design & optimization of Uprights & Pedal assembly

Electrical
High Voltage
Over the past one month, the team
has carried out testing on the motor
and has completd its first iteration.
ForFor the next month, the team aims to
finalize the routings in CAD, continue
with further iterations and proceed
for fabricarion.
The car is being designed and the
high voltage components are being
tested to make the car highly reliable.
With the design focussing on weight
reduction, the car would compara-
tively have better acceleration.
Also, improvements are being done in the Battery Management
System(BMS), thereby augmenting the car’s performance.

TEAM UPDATES
Low Voltage
Unlike the previous vehicle in which had the problem of debugging due
to the presence of small but many Printed Control Boards(PCBs), this
time the team will be implementing only two PCBs for 6 circuits, thus en-
suring Compact System Integration. Debugging would be made easier
by using and monitoring more test points and LEDs. During the previous
month, PCB designing and testing had been conducted.
In the next month, the team targets installation of the low voltage sys-
tems on the chasis.
Controls
This time around, Data Acquisition System will be implmented
which involves using many sensors for tracking car parameters and
also processing and interpreting the data. This would help in deter-
mining various performance parameters of the car.
During the previous month, the testing of algorithms for computa-
tional analysis required in data mining had been conducted on
pseudo data set. In the following month, the team aims to compile
the algorithms to generate a generic code.
