The Suffolk Art League is a Community Partner of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

This juried, creative exhibition includes artwork in all mediums, and relating to the local waters that surround us throughout the Tidewater Region.

Also in October at the Charles Taylor Arts Center: “Plein Aire 757”

This exhibition is composed of selected works from the August 2013 "Plein Air 757 Paint Out," formerly known as Norfolk, Virginia's "Out & About Norfolk." The annual plein air event expanded its geographical boundaries in 2012 to include the entire 757 area code region. The paintings offer the viewer a glimpse into the variety of painting styles and points of view reflected in the work created by 40 juried regional painters during two days of outdoor painting throughout southeastern Virginia. The exhibition was juried by plein air painter Stewart White.

"Nature Revealed" features views on nature in two solo shows by Virginia artists. Frederick Nichols creates large-scale paintings and

silkscreen prints of the Virginia countryside surrounding his Barboursville home. His works are based on photographs projected on

canvas, allowing him to capture "a place, one moment in time, one season at a time." With his wife, Beth, Nichols owns the Nichols

Gallery Annex in Barboursville. His work has been exhibited locally and internationally.

Radford resident Jan Knipe is particularly interested in observing development, unvarnished landscapes and chasing what light

reveals in particular locations and times of day. Her work is not new to PFAC; she received first place in drawing in the 1996 and

1996 PFAC juried exhibitions.

The Public Art Planning Committee seeks an artist to design and create artwork that is friendly

and inviting and that will cause viewers to pause and reflect. Over the years the area has become

visually fragmented due to many different owners. The committee hopes the final artwork will

unify and mark a cohesive neighborhood that honors its history with a new playful point of

view. The final artwork should be eye-catching, unique and bring color, fun and vibrancy to this

urban threshold.

You can help the Arts in Virginia—Here’s how!!

Virginians now have the opportunity to contribute part of

their state income tax refund to the Virginia Arts Foundation by checking a box on their return form. It’s never been so simple to support the arts in Virginia.

Because the foundation may receive but not solicit private funds, money will have to come from the purchase of arts license plate and other special sources, such as this tax check off box.

The interest on all funds received will be distributed in grants by the Virginia Commission for the Arts. Please help support the arts in Virginia. Check off a contribution for the Virginia Arts Foundation on your state income return. It’s one of the most important checks you can write – and now, it’s one of the easiest.

of email your editor receives every day.) If your message doesn’t say “Artline” it might get rejected as trash! Each photo needs its own caption, in its own email. Please send each photo, properly captioned, in a separate email. Use

another email for each additional photo, along with its caption. That way your Editor won’t get photos mixed up with the wrong caption. Please limit file size to about 1megabyte per photo. Please write a full sentence, identifying the principal people or art pieces in the photo, with an explanation
