The Luau Night with the rock band Sakes Alive was held on Friday September 27th followed by a Members’ Summer Party the next day.

Note from the Lodge Secretary As I write this memo, we are halfway through the Lodge year. Everything seems like it’s going so fast. I remember sitting at the Installation of Officers ceremony back in March and enthusiastically looking at the year ahead. It feels like that was only a few weekends ago, but as they say, “Time flies when you’re having fun!” I am so proud of our Lodge and all of the contributions that we are making in educating our youth, serving our Veterans, and tackling community projects. We cannot possibly perform any of these tasks without the support of our great members. We do, however, need a few more volunteers to step up and help carry on the momentum of the past few years. We can only continue our charitable works by having healthy committees, chaired by quality leaders. For the good of our programs and the future of our Lodge, please consider stepping up and taking on some responsibilities down at the Lodge. Stop in at the Lodge over the winter months for one of our music events, a breakfast or dinner, a charitable event, or to simply have something good to eat on a Thursday or Sunday (when our kitchen is open). Supporting our events by lending a hand for a few hours as a volunteer or attending as a patron for the evening can have such a positive impact on our Lodge and all of our programs. Please consider supporting your Lodge. Dues for the Lodge year 2019-20 are $66 for regular

members and $41 for life members. We still have, 30 delinquent members, tying up funds that could be used for our charitable works. Please pay promptly via cash, check, or online. On a personal note, I just want to take the time to acknowledge the fact we have lost some Elk members this year that have been an important part of the fold for many years. One person comes to mind in Bill “Howie” Morgan a Lodge Trustee and Past Exalted Ruler. He was a mentor to me and I considered him a close friend. Bill’s boots will be impossible to fill. God Bless you Bill, until we meet again my friend…

Frackville Elks Birthdays Remember Pearl Harbor! Support the Cause

At the 2019 Elks National Convention in St. Louis, outgoing Grand Exalted Ruler Mike Luhr issued a challenge to the Elks members to raise funds for the Pearl Harbor National Memorial in Hawaii. “I ask you then, will your Lodges and Members support the idea of making sure the memories of our veterans, passed and living, are kept with us for the years to come, and make sure the history of that ‘Day in Infamy’ is recorded so our great great-grandchildren will be able to see where our country has been?” During their travels throughout the country, Barbara and Mike Luhr visited the Pearl Harbor National Memorial in Hawaii, in awe of the veterans who were aboard the USS Arizona that fateful day. And yet some of the displays and signage at the memorial were not as expected. They were old, weather-beaten and outdated. They wondered if the Elks could play a part in helping to improve this memorial. That idea soon became reality, and the Elks are now partnering with the Pacific Historical Parks, a WWII focused 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public benefit organization that oversees the Pearl Harbor National Memorial. With contributions from Elks across the country, we can preserve, restore and modernize the USS Arizona Memorial. All funds raised will be used to: -Replace old, faded and peeling outdoor exhibits along Pearl Harbor National Memorial’s perimeter. -Upgrade current static displays with digital exhibits, build new interactive displays to engage children, and modernize the Pearl Harbor museums with iPads and touch screens. -Fabricate and install new exhibits, displays, programs, and software to better educate and serve all museum visitors. Our ultimate goal is to raise $783,000, or a dollar per member, to truly help preserve history, perpetuate peace and reconciliation and ensure that the memories of our veterans, passed and living, are never forgotten. These contributions will help honor the service and dedication of Americans whose profound contributions to our nation should never be forgotten, so that generations to come will know and appreciate the enormous sacrifices of the Greatest Generation. Together, the Elks can accomplish this goal. Will you help? Donate today!

Elks Commitment to Veterans When it comes to serving veterans, the Elks have a long and storied tradition of being there when they were needed most. Since we began, the needs of military members and returning veterans have continued to change, and the Elks have adapted to those needs, remaining an ever-present ally to those who have served this country. In 1946, the Elks National Veterans Service Commission was formally established, formalizing the Elks’ commitment to serving veterans. The ENVSC is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, and operates thanks to a generous grant from the Elks National Foundation. At the Local lodge level, our new Veterans Service chairperson is Dodie Fetterolf. If you would like to add your name to the Veterans Service committee, please call or text her at (570) 985-3666. This is the busiest time of the year coming up and Dodie needs many helpers to serve our local veterans. Please visit the Elks National Veterans Service Commission website for more info at:

Motorcycle riders from Schuylkill and surrounding counties participated in the 110 mile ride. All proceeds benefit the Elks Veterans Service program, allowing the Lodge to support Veterans in the VA Hospital in Lebanon and those living in local nursing homes. The American Legion Riders of Frackville Post 398 presented a $100 check to benefit the Elks Veterans Service program.

Frackville Elks Welcomes Broken Spell Band for 5th Year; Lodge Will Host Annual Halloween Party

The Frackville Elks Lodge has been hosting an annual Halloween Party for nearly a decade, and the tradition continues this year! The classic and southern rock band Broken Spell will be providing musical entertainment. The band has played at four of the last five Halloween dances and we look forward to their fifth appearance this year. We will again be opening the doors to the public and making this annual Halloween Party a community event. Patrons are encouraged to dress up in a Halloween costume and participate in the judging competition throughout the night. The following categories will be judged and winners awarded various prizes: Funniest, Scariest, Couples, Laziest, Most Creative, Judge's Choice—and there will be one special ultimate winner category with a cash prize of $150! There will be door prizes, Yuengling giveaways, light snacks, and a cash bar available. Tickets are available for purchase at the Elks Lodge during business hours. See the bartender on duty to make your reservations right away! Cost is only $10 per person for the event.

ENF Grant Report by: Don Dudash We recently received funding from Grand Lodge for our Beacon Grant that will enable us to provide additional turkeys in our very-successful "Turkey Givaway". Last year, we were able to provide many families with a turkey for their holiday season. The feedback we received from many of these families was "they may have not have had a Thanksgiving dinner if it wasn't for the turkeys graciously distributed by the Elks Lodge in Frackville." Last year we distributed 255 turkeys to many needy families - this year we should do well over 300! Other grants we received and distributed this past summer were: Bus trip to Reading Phillies and donations to Boy Scout Pack #790 as well as a like donation to Frackville Teener Baseball Team. Both of these donations were distributed to organizations that have been part of the Frackville community for many years and they were in need of our help. We are fortunate we belong to an organization that affords us the opportunity to assist our community thru the financial help we can provide thru our Community Grants Program and we will continue to provide this service as long as it is available.
