Oceanfreight ex North/North east Asia and South/South East Asia
A second round of ocean freight rate increases have been announced by major carriers to be effective from 1st
September, 2014.
While our position on the first round of increases was borne out with a gradual softening over ensuing weeks, it
remains to be seen if the second round will achieve a greater longevity with published quantum. Recent due
diligence would suggest space has tightened in the previous week, though carrier bookings will need to
remain sufficiently robust in volume to uphold this increase for a greater period of time. We remain in close
communication with all major carriers and shall continue to monitor market movements .
A new arrival on the route to Australia commencing November is a surprising and interesting addition to the
argument. Should this service commence as published the increased route capacity must have an influence on
space and subsequently rates during November and onwards.
