Today’s involvement
•Provide an overview of the past 12 months•Discuss trends and results•What OAMPS see are the ongoing issues•How do we keep improving and summary
Emergency Response > Prevention is better than cure

The reasons OAMPS are involved• Our origins and 40 years providing insurance solutions to the
DG industry• We provide a product which has helped revolutionize the way
segments of the industry operate• We embrace the concept to support all stake holders and
draw them into a national participation• Our partnership with ISS First Response has been a major
national link in supporting not only our clients but the industry in general
• Providing risk protection and solutions has proved a worthwhile way to influence industry

Concept of a National incident database• National stats remain difficult to create – State based
information lacks purpose• There is no standard process – not even on DG vehicle
numbers• The great work of Brian O’Connor and Croierg has been our
inspiration to follow National concepts – Canada & New Zealand are benchmarks
• Between OAMPS relationship and ISS First Response we believe we are capturing most incidents
• “Every drop every litre” promotion

Source of incident numbers• Authorities• Associations• Major companies• Responders• Insurers
What a great opportunity to Streamline - eliminate wasteful localised data Centralise – National incident data base

Trends from our information• From a disastrous 2011-12 the turnaround has been gratifying• Delivery errors fall again• Still having too many incidents at roundabouts• We had no claims denied• Aviation did not feature – following spike last year• Water craft and shipping incidents minimal• Luck or effort
– Work Safe – Technology– Driver awareness– Principals attitude– Several incidents did not escalate into expensive clean up

Issues• Foreign acquisition
• Revenue v margin• Cost cutting & poor planning
• The great work by Work Safe has put us all on notice• Non compliant vehicles to non compliant locations• How does our DG incident record measure up – internationally
• U.S.A 4-5 rollovers a day!• U.K. 15 incidents a month
• Attitude V Responsibility» If something goes wrong I can rely on authorities» Why did they arrive with 2 cranes» We could have handled for half the cost» All they needed was a load of gravel» The sign at roundabout shows 40» Its only a minor incident – clean up exceeded $500K» No idea why we’re here» They are outside protection fence» Who do I call

In summary – how do we keep improving• We may still have a long way to go but considering where we came from we
at least have a platform of awareness• OAMPS will continue to look at ways of supporting the dangerous goods
industry - we appreciate the interaction with AFAC, Work Safe, EPA & NBTA• Whilst we promote & reward quality and compliance we also need a high
level of loyalty to engage all stake holders• As raised earlier in my presentation the concept of “every drop every litre”
promotion has been driven by the reports we receive on a daily basis• This has changed our attitude from driver concentration to a whole industry
focus – every drop every litre – safely handled
We thank Garth Symington, Rob Perkins and special word of appreciation to Brian O’Connor whose obsession created our direction.
