APS NEWS

October was a challenging month with the haze and school closure directives from the MOE. We thank you for

your support and understanding during this difficult period and we hope that the worst of the haze is now over.

Despite the disruptions to the school routine, you will see from these pages that our students and teachers were

undaunted, and still managed to press on with many exciting events and activities. For example, through the

haze, the sun did come out for ‘Annie’- a fabulous performance by APSS Primary School. A lot of planning and

hard work went into this production and we are incredibly proud of the amazing talent, poise and enthusiasm of

everyone who took park. Bravo! On a more serious note, SPM exams begin for our Secondary 5 Students on

Monday 2 November and we wish them every success. We also wish the APS community a Happy Deepavali,

with light and brightness ahead…Meanwhile, please help spread the word to friends and family about these

upcoming events:

APSS-Miyoshi Educational and Exchange Programme

these few days, they visited the City Council of Miyoshi, Miyoshi Fujikubo Junior High School, Miyoshi Higashi

Junior High School, Kawagoe Old Castle, The Old Town, Museums, Agricultural Farm, and Tokyo Disneyland.

Another fun packed and educational trip. Well done to Mr Robin Yeow and to all those who made this year’s trip a

huge success.

Gymstar Gymnastics Championship 2015

On Sunday 18th October, APSS along with Gymstar Gymnastics held their 2015 Championships. We had over 75

students including some from APIS compete throughout the day in a variety of events.

Results on the day

Katiya Mohammad Yamir 2B APIS won 1st place in the Individual round and 3rd place in the Bar open event.

Anya Mireya Mathew 3C APIS won 2nd place in the Individual round.

Kheira Ali Didi 4C APIS was 4th place in the Individual round and 2nd place in the Bar open event.

Many other medals and trophies were awarded on the day with lots of pride and excitement.

There was a real buzz in the air and the hard work and determination from the students were fantastic.

Well done to Coach Gan and his team for organising this event and making it a huge success.

Over the weekend of the 24th and 25th October, APSS showcased ‘Annie the Orphan’. With nearly 580 students

involved, months of planning, teachers devoting their own time as well as commitment from students and parents,

the performances were impressive.

The role of Annie was played by P5 Earth student Azeala Nur Jannah on Saturday and P6 Mars student Keerthi

Shanggar on Sunday, both stellar performances. On both days, music was performed by our very own APSS

teachers who did a great job.

Musical production Coordinator, Ms Norazniza remarked: “The greatest challenge Is getting them to be focused

and disciplined to work together as a team, some of the children encountered stage fright, but drama remains the

best platform to help children build their self-confidence.”

A huge well done and thank you to all the students involved. We hope you had as much fun performing as we did

watching you. Congratulations and thank you to Ms Norazniza and her team for making the weekend a success.

Geography Projects from APIS 5A Class

Here are some of the fantastic projects

produced by students in Ms Michelle’s

5A Geography class. The students have

been learning about Deserts. They had to

either make a book or a display about

the plant and animal life in the desert.

Good job everybody!

Year 5 Vegetable Garden

Ms Marianne and Ms Usha at APIS took their Year 5 classes outside to start their wonderful Vegetable garden. All

the children had fun helping to plant the seeds and understand the growing process. We look forward to watching

them grow and tasting some of the delights.

This project ties in with their first topic in

Science: "Plants".

The students have planted:

Long Beans

Brinjal (Eggplant)

Okra (Ladies fingers)

Kang Kung (Water spinach)

Spring Onion

Mint

Chilli

The long beans have already started to

germinate…

New Art Classroom

APIS is excited with its new Primary Art Room which is now being used on the Lower ground floor. Ms Joanne has

been hard at work decorating this new space and we love the pictures drawn on the glass. This now means APIS

has 3 specialist art rooms.

On 26th October, our Year 11 and Form 5 students from APIS and APSS attended a

seminar presented by Tony Tan, a representative from Henley High School in Adelaide.

The presentation gave students information about studying in Australia and options

after SPMs and IGCSEs.

The seminar was well received with great feedback from both students and parents, so

much so that students already want to take the ‘Career Profiling Test’ which is part of

the first stages to studying abroad. This is a fantastic opportunity, so thank you to Tony

Tan for taking the time to visit APS.

Good luck to all of Form 5 students at APSS with your coming SPM Exams.
