In proportion to the rapid development of Korea’s economy, the

demand for electricity has increased just as quickly. As a

leading supplier of Korean nuclear equipment, it has been

DOOSAN’s responsibility to meet this demand.

DOOSAN is a major player in the nuclear power plant business,

and was chosen as sole manufacturer of heavy components for

the Nuclear Steam Supply System at Yonggwang Units 1&2 and

Ulchin Units 1&2 (including Reactor Vessel, Steam Generators,

Pressurizer and Primary Piping). The company was then

selected as prime contractor for Yonggwang Units 3&4 (1,000

MWe each), and demonstrated its superior capability through

exceptional equipment quality and plant performance.

Based on extensive experience and continued efforts to further

develop a sturdy technological base, DOOSAN successfully

contributed to the design and construction of Ulchin Units 3&4

(1,000 MWe each) – two flagship units designated as the

Optimized Power Reactor 1000 (OPR1000). The on-site

construction of the Ulchin project was completed successfully

under the careful direction of DOOSAN.

DOOSAN has supplied NSSS for Yonggwang Units 5&6, Ulchin

Units 5&6 (1,000 MWe each), and also provided the

Replacement Steam Generator (RSG) at Kori Unit 1 in Korea and

RSGs for Sequoyah Unit 1 and Watts Bar Unit 1 in the U.S.A.

In addition to its increased involvement in the Korean

Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) program, DOOSAN also is fully

capable of supplying the complex equipment required for

Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWR). Thus, the high-

quality equipment demanded by Wolsong Units 2,3&4 was

supplied by DOOSAN.

The company also supplied Steam Generators, Feeder/Header

assembly and other major equipment for Qinshan Phase III

Units 1&2 in China.

Currently, DOOSAN is committed to the manufacturing of NSSS

for Shin-Kori 1&2, Shin-Wolsong Units 1&2 (1,000MWe each)

and Shin-Kori Unit 3&4 (1,400 MWe each) in Korea.

Also, DOOSAN is busy with the manufacturing of four RSGs for

Sequoyah Unit 2 of TVA, three RRVHs and CEDMs for Palo Verde

Unit 1,2,3 of APS in the U.S.A.

Doosan is also the most competitive manufacturer of Gen III+

reactors. After wining the equipment supply contract for the

world’s first AP1000TM in China Sanmen & Haiyang nuclear

power plants, Doosan has been awarded three projects (6

units) in a row for U.S. AP1000TM for the supply of Reactor

Vessels and Steam Generators.

NSSS production lines and management systems for design, material, manufacturing, construction, testing,

services, maintenance and repair, Doosan is strengthening its position as a leading provider of NPPs in both the

domestic and overseas markets. Since Yonggwang 1&2, Doosan has so far supplied equipments to total of 15

REACTOR VESSEL

The Reactor Vessel is designed to withstandhigh pressure and temperature and containsnuclear internals and fuel. The Closure Head isremovable to reload the fuel, while the ReactorVessel is fabricated from ring-forged shells. To enhance safety, APR1400 adopts 4 DVINozzles, which inject the coolant water ofSIT(Safety Injection Tank) into the core directly.

The major part of Reactor Vessel is fabricated from forged material.

These ring-forged shells eliminate the need for longitudinal seam

welds thereby reducing production and inspection time. Material of

the Reactor Vessel are carefully selected to withstand high pressure,

temperature, and radiation.

The Reactor Vessel is composed of shells, nozzles and domes. The

shells are first welded together. Then holes are machined to the shell

for the assembly of nozzles. Finally, the shell and bottom head dome

are welded to form the complete assembly.

The Reactor Vessel can sustain pressure by tensioning of studs at

closure head. At the Closure Head, 108 nozzles are installed for the

connection with CEDMs. The Closure Head Assembly and the Vessel

are sealed by 54 Studs and 2 O-Rings. The Pad & Lug welded over

the Closure Head surface are installed for supporting the IHA.

STEAM GENERATOR

The Steam Generator is a type of heat exchanger whichprovides steam to drive the turbine generator. While heatis exchanged from the Primary Coolant Loop to theSecondary Coolant Loop within the Steam Generator, thecoolant within each loop is isolated from the other.

The Steam Generator is fabricated from ring forged shells and from

close die forged heads. These forged Forgings eliminate the need for

longitudinal and girth seam welds Thereby reducing production and

Inspection time. Materials of Steam Generator are carefully selected

to Withstand high pressure, temperature, And radiation.

The tubesheet has drilled holes for Installation of

U-bend tube using 3-spindle deep hole drilling machine.

The U-bend tubes are installed, then carefully expanded the

thickness of the tubesheet. The expansion process shall be carefully

controlled

so as to produce as low as residual stress in the tubes as is

reasonably achievable.

AP1000TM Reactor Vessel is designed with no bottomhead penetrations to enhance safety and simplifymanufacturing. The reactor vessel head employs a onepiece forging which eliminates weld inspections andcontributes ALARA targets.

AP1000TM steam generator has high level reliability and enhancedperformance by application of high performance primary andsecondary moisture separators, advanced anti-vibration bars forupper tube support, broached plate for lateral tube support. Integral forgings are applied for Channel Head, Elliptical UpperHead and Transition Cone Shell.

Doosan also supplied the major components of the PHWR (Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor) plants at Wolsong units 2,3 & 4 and

Qinshan CANDU units 1 & 2 in China. PHWR uses natural uranium which is simpler to handle and easier to process into fuel

assemblies than enriched uranium. Instead of H2O, which is used in a PWR, a PHWR uses heavy water (D2O) as the moderator and

coolant. The system can be refueled during full-power operation.

Doosan successfully supplied the Calandrias, Feeder/Headers and Steam Generators to Wolsong units 2,3 & 4.

The Feeder/Headers and Steam Generators for use in Qinshan CANDU units 1 & 2 in China were also supplied.

Four(4) Steam Generator is installed in theRCS (Reactor Coolant System) of PHWRplant.
