Scripture Reflection Christ the King
November 24, 2013 In the kingdom of God we are free to respond to God's invitation or not. The scene on Calvary is a stark reminder to us that the choice is always there. Jesus hung on a cross be-tween two criminals, one who reviled him and another who asked for mercy. The words of Jesus are not only comfort to the crucified thief. They are also words addressed to us who follow Christ, our king and our savior. We believe that he
will lead us to paradise as well.

NOVEMBER 24: FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING Today as we celebrate Christ the King, may we open the door of our heart so wide that we may listen to the voice of Jesus calling us to help build his Kingdom here on Earth. In the month of October, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to help build the kingdom of God by assisting over 359 families with $3,500.00 in utility/rental assistance, $900.00 in furniture assistance & 286 food boxes that fed over 586 individuals. Our free bakery/grocery program provided over 18,093 lbs. of additional food to those in need. THANK YOU!

CATHOLIC SYMBOLS … Guardian Angels are created heavenly spirits who help and guard those to whom they have been assigned. All of us have a guardian angel. Jesus even said, “See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.” Matthew 18:10 Angels, especially guardian angels, pray for us, lead us to holiness, and help defend us from the attack of the enemy. HOMEBOUND MINISTRY: Please say “yes” to spending an
hour or two your time each month making a friend. As the cold weather months set in, we are in need of parishioners share Eucharist with our homebound parishioners. The hours are flexible! Contact Penny Ackerman for
more information. “For I was … ill and you cared for me …” Matt 25:35-36 HOLY FATHER’S PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR DECEMBER 2013: Victimized Children. That children who are victims of abandonment or violence may find the love and protection they need.
Bullying at schools and on the internet along with human trafficking continue to become more prevalent and serious. Victims of pedophile crimes continue to grow in numbers. Evil undermines the lives of children via multiple avenues and people of faith are called to stand up for these victims who have no voice.
Our responsibility is to pray - especially to the Blessed Trinity, our Blessed Mother, the Angels, and the Saints. Mary is the mother of all of us and she has a special love and concern for children. Her power is great and her love for us proven.
We need to educate ourselves and each other. Know the signs and symptoms of these victimizations. Society has become indifferent to the poor, the marginalized, the ill, and the frail. We must begin helping one another through our works and actions by reaching out with love, protection, mercy, and almsgiving. Lead others by your own example.
Prepare the Savior's Coming. That Christians, enlightened by the Word incarnate, may prepare humanity for the Savior's coming.
As Catholics we are loved and filled with grace with the gift of the Sacraments.
Our best preparation for Jesus’ birth is to purify our souls through sincere celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and doing good works with love and without expectation of repayment. (Our precepts state that we are called to go to confession at least once a year.) Let us encourage each other to celebrate this Sacrament and do works of mercy on a frequent basis.

THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY MONDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2013
This year, 2013, December 8 falls on a Sunday. For this reason, according to the Ordinary Form calendar, the celebration of the
Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception has been transferred to Monday, December 9. The bishops conference usually waives obligations of Holy Days which are too close to a Sunday (which is always a day of Obligation). December 9 is NOT a Holy Day of Obligation this year. THERE WILL NOT BE ANY MASSES AT ST. PATRICK’S.

SOON TO BE DECLARED A SAINT BY OUR CHURCH: Join us as we get acquainted with the POPE OF PEACE. Blessed Pope John XXIII has a fascinating history and we will review it with the help of an article on his life and a
video starring Ed Asner and Massimo Ghini, portraying his life of Faith. Obedience and Peace. This was his mantra. From childhood, through priesthood, through papacy, let us journey with him. Two sessions: Saturday mornings, 9:30 AM December 7th and 14th.
JOURNEY THROUGH SCRIPTURE: GENESIS TO JESUS Wondering how to build off of the great parish mission we had with Fr. Scott Courtney? Wondering what would make a good New Year's resolution? Wondering what to do with your Monday nights when football is done? The answer is the same for all these questions! Join us for a new Bible Study beginning Monday, January 13, at 7:00pm in the Parish Center! This 7-week study called Journey Through Scripture: Genesis to Jesus, is published by Dr. Scott Hahn and the St. Paul Institute for Biblical Theology. Deacon Sean will be presenting this exciting study that takes us through the covenants God made with His people, from Adam all the way through the New Covenant in Jesus Christ! Don't have a Bible? We've got one for you! Don't drive at night? Let us know and we'll make arrangements! Need child care? Let us know and we'll make arrangements for that, too! At Deacon Sean's previous parish, a 95 year old woman participated in this study and said, "I've never studied the Bible before. It's time I got started!" Maybe it's time for you to get started, or go deeper, too! Contact the parish office to sign up!
