Assistant Principal’s Note

Dear Ashley Families,

Wow! I can’t believe it is November. This is a month when we typically focus on being thankful. I was reading an article that stated studies have shown that being thankful relieves stress, promotes better sleep, and can even boost your immune system. Being thankful and showing gratitude more as a way of life, and not just a focus in November, is an area I want to improve on in my own life. Not to mention, in a generation of entitlement, I want to teach my daughter to live a life that displays thankfulness and gratitude as well.

One of the greatest exercises I have read about and try to practice consistently is to create a gratitude journal. Every day I try to write down 3-5 things I am thankful for. This activity is easy for children to do as well. When I begin to focus on all that I have, instead of what I don’t have, it really changes my perspective and my attitude. What a great lesson for us to teach our children! 5th Grade Fundraising

The 5th graders are working hard to earn funds for their end of year celebration in May! Thanks to our amazing Ashley Families they brought in $300 from the fundraiser at Bahamas Bucks in August and the Cherry Berry fundraiser in October was a great success!

Environmental Group

Hello from the Environmental Group at Ashley Elementary. Here we will promote and support environmental issues by taking on active roles to improve the environment. We will also work with the Green team to do the recycling. Some of the recycling items are: batteries, used shoes, paper. There will be more projects later in the year. We look forward to working with the parents, kids, school and community to become a more environment friendly place. Something to think about:

1. Kroger Community Rewards Program:

Ashley Families raised $1,031.34 through the Kroger Community Rewards program last quarter! How exciting is that! Every August we need to re-enroll our Kroger rewards cards. Only 39 rewards cards were re-activated this year compared to over 100 last year so if you haven’t done so please re-enroll.

Teacher Appreciation

Happy Fall and Birthday from TAW! That's right...teacher birthdays are what we have been working on to honor each staff member on their special day. A Scholastic book is put in their box that can be shared with the class or classroom library.

If you and your child would like to honor your classroom teacher on his/her birthday there are different ways to do so depending on your style and preference.

1. Have your child make a card or special handmade item! It's the thought that counts!

2. For gift ideas- You can find out what their "Favorite Things" are from the Class Room Parent and send in a treat if you choose to do so. Room Parents cannot organize a group teacher gift for any occasion.

3. Room Parents will be decorating the classroom door for the teacher's birthday though, so be on the lookout for those when you are in the building.
