For the first time in our church planting ministry we actually

have a few married couples that are growing in the Lord. On most Sundays we will have two or three couples in attendance. We try to serve them in different ways to help them in their own spiritual growth and training of the children. In this picture Jose and Rosa Acosta recently went out with us for supper at a Chinese restaurant. These are excellent (and delicious) occasions for counseling!

A year from this month we will be RETURNING from our trip to report

to our supporting churches. No, we aren’t in the States yet! We plan to arrive

in July. However, some pastors have already scheduled missions conferences with us

or Sunday meetings and parts of the calendar are filling up. We would like to give a report (and

personal word of thanks!) in any churches that would want it. Please email us directly (andy@aierdi.

org) or contact our mission office by phone. The preferred dates are August through early November.

Yesterday was Election Day on your side of the Atlantic. Here in Spain it was followed intensely through the

evening and night, by extremely bias media. But our eyes are more on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, as we keep our hearts focused on gratitude to the Lord for His blessings and for many of you who pray and support us faithfully. THANK YOU AND HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS!

On the back side of this newsletter there is information on the December 2008 Gospel postcard project. At the time I am

typing this we can already praise the Lord for a generous response (to our email correspondence) in prayer promises and financial help. There are onnly a handful of towns not covered. Since this snailmail

postage is slower than our email updates, funds may come in over the amount we need. If that happens we will plan on keeping the

funds in the same account at the mission office (reserved for next year’s postcard) unless designated otherwise. Thank you for praying with us that God will bless His Gospel and we will see

new people saved as a result.

Por primera vez en la historia de la iglesia del Goierri, tenemos

varios matrimonios que están creciendo en el Señor. Casi todos los domingos tenemos dos o tres parejas escuchando la predicación. Procuramos servirles en diferentes maneras para ayudarles en su crecimiento espiritual, relación como pareja y entrenamiento de sus hijos. En la foto nos encontramos de cena con José y Rosa Acosta. Estas ocasiones son excelentes oportunidades para dar consejo espiritual.

Dentro de un año estaremos VOLVIENDO al País Vasco de

nuestro viaje a USA para dar reportaje en algunas iglesias que nos apoyan. No,

¡no hemos salido para USA todavía! Saldremos para los Estados Unidos en el mes de

julio. Ya algunos pastores nos han citado para estar en sus iglesias y parte del calendario ya se

está llenando. NOTA para las iglesias en Puerto Rico: Difícilmente podremos ir a PR en este viaje próximo pero

quisieramos programar un viaje a la isla en los próximos años si hay interés. No dudéis en escribir.

La semana pasada fueron las elecciones a la presidencia de nuestro país. Aquí en España también se vivió el día

intensamente, como en toda Europa. Pero nuestros ojos están enfocados más en el Día de Acción de Gracias y la próxima Navidad, manteniendo nuestra mirada agradecida en el Señor y todos vosotros que orais por nosotros y nos sostenéis fielmente. ¡FELIZ NAVIDAD!

Conferencia para familia con David Cortes

En el mes de octubre organizamos una conferencia para familias con el hno. David Cortés, de Tijuana, como predicador invitado.

Nuestros compañeros de ministerio, Juan y Teté Álvarez, hicieron la mayor parte del trabajo y fue de gran bendición. El hno. Cortés predicó poderosos mensajes sobre la familia y vimos a varios hermanos tomar decisiones importantes. Le acompañó su esposa Garciela y un hermano de su iglesia, Fidel Álvarez. Las reuniones tuvieron lugar en tres sitios diferentes: la iglesia bautista en Irún, la iglesia bautista de Beasain y también el caserío Aierdi. En próximas semanas tendremos el 5º Retiro de Hijos de Misioneros en Europa con más de 20 jóvenes en la lista de confirmados.

Danny’s departure will leave a sizeable hole in our church music program, but we are

trusting Mark and the remaining youth to pick up the slack. This summer we have made some steps to prepare others of our youth to increase the use of their musical talents for the ministry.

There are many things to teach and train them in since we believe the ministry of music is sacred

and not to be taken lightly. Here in the pictures a few of the young men

are practicing between services.

Last week our whole family went to youth camp in central Spain. We were 13 from the Goierri

church, including our four kids. Mimi and I helped as staff, counseling, teaching, and helping with music. Mimi help organize the flute choir, which played several evenings. The boys and I sang a quintet with Dad Allen. In the picture you can see general director Lavon Waters and I presenting a beautiful Spanish Bible to a preacher boy—our son Danny! In less than two weeks he will be leaving for Bible college with David and our nest will be emptier than ever.

It will soon be time to report to our USA churches & friends. We will be scheduling meetings between late July and mid-

November of 2009. PASTORS, if you would like us to report to your church, please email me at andy@aierdi.org or call our mission board at 704 730 1440. Some dates are already taken so it would be good to contact us soon. In the next newsletter I plan to display the schedule and open dates.

Four different groups have come to Aierdi so far this year. One

of the most recent ones was this youth mission team of 19 that came from our home

church—Berean Baptist Church in Lilburn, GA. They spent a very busy week with us, in which they

invested time in tract distribution, church services, youth meetings, and work at the farmhouse. For

several days they worked like beavers and finished 9 double bunkbeds and one triple. These are solid wood and sturdy, and should be useful for many years. Thanks Kooks, Maucks, Clutes, and youth!

Misioneros Bautistas en el País Vasco de España

La salida de Danny para estudiar deja un hueco enorme en el ministerio. Pero

confiamos en que nuestro tercer hijo, Samuel, y los demás jóvenes le tomen el relevo. Estamos

trabajando ya con varios y desarrollando su talento musical para incorporarse pronto. Creemos que el ministerio de la música es

sagrado y no algo que se toma a la ligera. En la foto se ve a varios de

los varones ensayando entre cultos.

Hace unas semanas nuestra familia asistió a un campamento de jóvenes cerca de Madrid.

Fuimos 13 de la iglesia del Goierri, incluyendo a nuestros cuatro hijos. Mimí y yo servimos en las cabañas, la cocina, el púlpito, etc. Mimí organizó un coro de flautas. Nuestros tres hijos, mi suegro y yo cantamos varios números especiales. En la foto podéis ver al director general y yo haciendo la presentación especial de una Biblia a uno de los futuros predicadores—nuestro Danny! En estas fechas ya está en la universidad cristiana con su hermano mayor, los dos preparándose para el ministerio.

El año que viene volveremos a USA durante unos meses para dar reportaje a las iglesias. Cumpliremos 20 años

de estar como familia en el País Vasco de España y alabamos al Señor Jesucristo por la obra que está haciendo. Aún así, seguimos orando por más obreros porque hay todavía una tremenda necesidad de iglesias fieles a Dios en muchos pueblos y ciudades alrededor.

Son al menos cuatro los equipos misioneros que vienen este año de iglesias en USA. El

más reciente fue un grupo de 19 que vinieron de los jóvenes de nuestra iglesia enviadora—Berean

Baptist Church en Lilburn, GA. Estuvieron una semana y participaron en la distribución de

literatura, cultos en la iglesia Bautista del Goierri, reuniones de jóvenes y trabajo en el caserío

Aierdi. Uno de los proyectos más notables fue la construcción de 10 literas de madera para los

dormitorios. Son fuertes y serán útiles para muchos años. ¡Gracias a Dios por la visión de los pastores!

Continue to pray with us that God’s Spirit will work through the Gospel literature to

save the first soul in the target city of Zumárraga. As the Lord provides funds we are printing

different tracts and brochures to give to people on the streets. When mission teams come our way we often take them to one of these towns for literature distribution. Here are two of the

young men talking with an elderly man who is making some comment

about the tracts.

We have three sessions of morning teaching and preaching each Sunday. At 10am there is a 25-

minute devotional and then breakfast. At 11am a major teaching session for all ages. At 12am we have the main

preaching service. After years of almost no fruit, the Lord has in recent years given visible results and the

congregation has grown tremendously. In this picture at our 11:00 session the believers had just finished taking a

“final exam” that Randy gave them on our New Believers course titled PRIMEROS PASOS (First Steps). It was a pile of fun to watch the adults take a test

and have to grade each others’ answers!

It is again with much joy and gratitude in our hearts that we send out a report of what God is doing here in the Basque mountains.

The ministry continues to expand in different ways and it is exciting to watch! The church is growing, the Gospel is being given to new towns, and the Count the Stars project at the Aierdi farmhouse is also progressing, Thank you for praying for us as we serve Him and live for His glory.

God keeps blessing us with wonderful mission teams

from the USA. What a blessing to work with them in putting together a program

that includes working at the Aierdi retreat center, ministering to the Esperanza Viva Baptist

Church believers, and taking the Gospel to the cities beyond. Some of our most fervent prayer

supporters and friends come from these teams of dedicated youth and adults. In this picture Pastor

Seguid orando con nosotros pidiendo al Espíritu de Dios que obre a través de la literatura del

Evangelio en salvar el primer alma de la ciudad Zumárraga. Con los fondos que Dios proveerá estaremos imprimiendo folletos para dar por las calles. Cuando llegan hermanos y equipos misioneros de la iglesias que nos sostienen muchas veces los organizamos en grupos con nuestros hijos y les llevamos a repartir. Aquí hay dos jóvenes hablando

Tenemos tres sesiones en la mañana de cada domingo. A las 10 disfrutamos de un devocional seguido de

desayuno. A las 11 hay una sesión mayor de enseñanza bíblica para todas las edades. A las 12 tenemos el culto central de predicación. Después de años con muy poco fruto visible el Señor nos ha traído un cosecha y la congregación ha crecido bastante. En esta foto, tomada hace poco en la sesión de las 11, los hermanos acababan de tomar un “examen final” de nuestro curso para creyentes nuevos: PRIMEROS PASOS. ¡Era muy divertido ver la reacción de los adultos cuando tuvieron que intercambiar hojas para corregir!

Con gratitud y gozo en el corazón volvemos a enviar un resumen de lo que Dios está haciendo en estas montañas del País Vasco.

¡El ministerio sigue creciendo en numerosas áreas y es emocionante ver! La iglesia está creciendo, el Evangelio se está sembrando en nuevos pueblos y el proyecto Cuenta las Estrellas en el caserío Aierdi sigue para adelante. Gracias por vuestras oraciones mientras servimos al Señor y vivimos para Su gloria.

Dios sigue enviándonos bendición a traves de los equipos misioneros

que vienen de EEUU. ¡Qué alegría es para nosotros organizar estos viajes, dando a jóvenes y adultos oportunidades de trabajar en Aierdi, ministrar en la iglesia y llevar el Evangelio a personas de las ciudades de alrededor! Muchas veces de entre estas visitas surgen nuestros mejores amigos y más fuertes apoyadores en oración. En marzo organizamos nuestro primer retiro con los jóvenes que están en el programa mensual de instituto llamado EJEMPLOS. Eramos varios misioneros los

que predicabamos y las damas prepararon la comida. Hubieron competiciones bíblicas en las que salieron dos grandes ganadores (un varon y una señorita) y cuatro premios secundarios. Los dos primeros premios fueron un Comentario de Matthew Henry de un tomo. Eran 18 los que compitieron durante aproximadamente 40 horas para obtener los premios. ¡Fue un tremendo retiro espiritual!

Only God can take major setbacks and turn them into blessings

for His children. Those of you who have followed the story of the huge

landslides that poured onto Aierdi lands in 2003 and 2005 will remember how He brought us many blessings through it. The most recent

happened in February when the provincial authorities came with a large backhoe to clean up the deteriorated initial trenches and then give us three full days of work on anything we wanted!

This year we are especially focusing on evangelistic work on the streets of one of our 13 target areas for

future churches. Zumárraga and its surrounding towns are just 10 miles from our area, but in a different valley and existing as a totally independent community. Our

son Danny is organizing weekly tract distribution on it streets, using some of the church youth as well as

American mission teams that come our way. This picture was taken at a recent combined youth meeting with the Irun church. After prayer in the parking lot

we headed out in four different groups with packs of Gospel literature.

We enter the second quarter of the year with enthusiasm, joy, and hope for the ministry God has for us here. There is

continued growth in many of the believers in the Esperanza Viva Baptist church. We are delighted to see a glimmer of leadership possibilities in some of our youth. Thank you for praying that the congregation will continue to give generously for the purchase of a building. Right now the balance is about $27,000.

We had our first retreat for the youth enrolled

in the EXAMPLES institute. Our missionary team came together to clean,

cook, teach, and supervise the teens in an intense program of Bible teaching and competitions

based on the Book of Daniel. Through a variety of competitions the youth earned points to win two major prizes (Matthew Henry commentary) and four secondary prizes (a book by Tozer). Praise

the Lord for appreciable progress in training these leaders of tomorrow!

Sólo Dios puede convertir los reveses y tragedias en bendiciones

para Sus hijos. Los que sabéis de los tremendos deslizamientos que bajaron

del monte y atravesaron los terrenos de Aierdi en 2.003 y 2.005 recordarán que ya el Señor obró de

forma maravillosa. Pero la historia sigue y en febrero volvieron las máquinas de la diputación para arreglar la canalización de aguas y poner a nuestra disposición

su equipo para diferentes obras. Entre otras cosas, nos agrandaron y mejoraron dos esplanadas para

actividades y aparcamiento. ¡Dios es bueno!

Este año nos estamos enfocando de manera especial en la ciudad de Zumárraga, una de las trece en que

queremos ver iglesias plantadas. Nuestro hijo Danny está organizando el proyecto de distribución de literatura

y, entre los jóvenes de nuestra iglesia y los grupos que vienen de los E.E.U.U., son más de mil los individuos

que en la calle han recibido un paquete de folletos que presentan el Evangelio y les invitan a las reuniones de la iglesia en Beasain. En la foto un grupo está orando antes

de salir a repartir. Desde luego que sin la ayuda del Espíritu Santo este pueblo tan duro

nunca se rendirá a los pies de Cristo.

Entramos en el segundo trimestre del año con entusiasmo, gozo y esperanza para el ministerio que Dios nos ha dado aquí. Hay

crecimiento en la mayoría de los hermanos de la Iglesia Bautista Esperanza Viva y algunos inconversos están asistiendo con interés en el Evangelio. Gracias por vuestras oraciones. Pedid que los hermanos sean fieles en sus diezmos y ofrendas para que la cuenta que tenemos para un futuro local propio vaya creciendo.

at a recent intensive institute when some of the girls got together for fellowship during one of the

breaks. This society is saturated with teenagers who are completely given over to immoral

lifestyles. What a challenge to train these young ladies to become the godly

women our churchesso dearly need!

One of the exciting ministries we have is that of working with the youth, pouring prayer

and energy into training them for leadership. The Aierdi farmhouse is one of our most valuable tools

and we use it more and more for teaching young men and women to be EXAMPLES of Jesus Christ, according to 1 Timothy 4:12. In this picture Danny

and Mark are with three promising young men. Pray for Jesus Mari, Michael, and Isaac.

Tomorrow’s church leadership

We start the new year with the wonderful hope of Christ’s return in our hearts and prayers. Meanwhile, what a joy

and privilege to participate in His grand mission of planting churches around the globe. We praise the Lord for the sacred honor of preaching the Gospel in the Gipuzkoa province and seeing Him build the Esperanza Viva Baptist church into a multiracial congregation that is growing in His knowledge and grace!

The Missionary Teen Retreat in late fall is always a highlight of the year. It is one of those

opportunities we have to serve a very special group of kids beyond our local ministry. On November

27th nearly 30 missionary kids from Scotland, Spain, France, Hungary and Poland arrived at Aierdi to

spend four days under the powerful preaching of Dr. Ken Hay, founder of the Wilds. He and his wife

were a priceless blessing to both teens and missionary adults as we focused together on the theme: Walk

Worthy of your Calling. We praise the Lord for this unique retreat and the potential it has for calling

church planters back to Europe.

Misioneros Bautistas en el País Vasco de España

Nuestras hijas (de los misioneros) también nos ayudan con las jóvenes señoritas. Esta foto se

tomó recientemente en un instituto intensivo y se ve una hija de nuestros compañeros rodeada de otra jóvenes. Esta sociedad está saturada de jóvenes entregadas a estilos de vida inmorales. ¡Qué desafío es entrenar a estas señoritas para que sean mujeres virtuosas en nuestras iglesias!

Uno de los ministerios emocionantes es el de trabajar con los jóvenes, invertiendo en ellos oración y

energías para que crezcan en liderazgo espiritual. El caserío Aierdi es un instrumento valiosísimo

para esta meta. Tenemos un programa de instituto mensual llamado EJEMPLOS (1 Ti. 4:12) por el cual

enseñamos las virtudes cristianas. En la foto están tres prometedores jóvenes junton con nuestros hijos Daniel y

Samuel. Orad por Jesus Mari, Michael e Isaac.

Líderes de las iglesias de mañana

Comenzamos el año con la maravillosa esperanza de la Segunda Venida de Cristo en nuestros corazones. Mientras tanto, es un

gozo y privilegio participar en la gran misión de fundar iglesias para Su gloria. Alabamos al Señor por el honor que nos concede de predicar el Evangelio en la provincia de Gipuzkoa y ver como Él hace que la Iglesia Bautista Esperanza Viva crezca en Su conocimiento y gracia, convirtiéndose cada vez más en una congregación multiracial.

El Retiro para Hijos de Misioneros en otoño de cada año es un favorito de todos. Es una oportunidad

fantástica que tenemos para servir a este grupo tan especial de jóvenes. Este noviembre pasado llegaron a Aierdi casi 30 jóvenes de Escocia, España, Francia, Hungría y Polonia. Durante cuatro días escucharon la poderosa predicación de Dr. Ken Hay, fundador

del campamento The Wilds. Él y su esposa fueron de bendición incalculable a adolscentes y adultos

por medio de unas sesiones sobre CAMINANDO DIGNOS DE VUESTRO LLAMAMIENTO. ¡Gloria a Dios por esta oportunidad de invertir en unos jóvenes

que son especialmente preparados para volver a predicar el Evangelio en Europa!
