AACEÂŽ International TCMâConferenceContinuing Education Seminar Information
T he AACE Education Board is planning to offer fourtwoâday continuing education seminars in conâjunction with the International Total Cost Manâagement Conference in Dubai this November. Onthe schedule for the two days prior to the openâing of the International TCM Conference are:
Seminar 1: Certified Cost Professional (CCP)Certification Review Course
Instructor: Sean T. Regan, CCP CEP
1.6 CEUs This course will enable attendees to be better preâpared to take the CCP Certification Examination beyond whatthey would likely achieve on their own. Professionals who atâtend this Certification Review Course are expected to be fairlywell prepared to sit for the examination before arrival. Thiscourse is not intended to prepare a professional who routinelyworks in only one subâelement of cost engineering to pass thechallenging Certification Examination, if they have done littlestudy before the seminar. Attendees should have read andworked some problems in Skills and Knowledge of Cost Engiâneering, 5th Ed and CCP Certification Study Guide, 3rd Ed, tobecome relatively comfortable with the contents of thesebooks. They should also reacquaint themselves with college alâgebra, such as logarithms and exponents. Ideally, attendeeswould have completed, at some time in the past, a baccalaureâate course in business or engineering statistics, as well as engiâneering economy or finance. Students should bring a calculatorwith exponent and logarithm functions that meets certificationexamination specifications. A financial calculator is useful butnot required. Learning Objectives: Probably the greatest benefitwill derive from the learning objectives that require demonstraâtion of numerical problemâsolving skills. Obviously, what mostbenefits participants will vary with their backgrounds. Knowlâedge Areas: This course will primarily address those areaswhere numerical problem solving is of important considerationin a typical examination. The expectation is that professionalswho do not routinely solve such problems will find that reviewto be more worthwhile. These primary areas will include engiâneering economics, estimating, scheduling and related subjects.
Seminar 2: Practical Use of 199 FIDICâConditions of Contract, Module 1
Instructor: James C. Perry
1.6 CEUs What is the practical use of the FIDIC ContractsFIDIC contract documents? What is FIDIC and where do theFIDIC contracts come from? Why are FIDIC contracts structuredthe way they are? Which FIDIC contract should you use for yourproject? How do you set up a FIDIC contract?
Responsibilities of the main parties understanding the role andresponsibilities of each of the main parties to a FIDIC contractis one of the keys to the success of the project and misunderâstandings of the responsibilities are often the source of disâagreements and disputes. General provisions, the employer, thecontractor, the engineer, nominated subcontractors (Red Book),design (Yellow Book), as well as the management of projects, setting out the fundamental terms agreed between the partiesto the contract, FIDIC contracts contain detailed obligations andprocedures that are intended to help the parties to efficientlymanage their project will be reviewed. What to do when yourproject âgoes wrongâ and many other issues will be answeredin this seminar.
Seminar 3: Project Controls from the Ownerâs Perspective
Presenters: Stephen L. Cabano andPaul G. Williams, Pathfinder, Inc.
1.6 CEUs This seminar will cover Project Controls IndustryâBest Practicesâ (approaches, methods, techniques and tools)suitable to an owner organizationâs project portfolio and specificprojects. Topical coverage will include the following.
⢠Project controls perspective (relative to the ownerâs role)⢠Project controls process⢠Roles and responsibilities for project controls (project manâ
ager/engineer, ownerâs project team, ownerâs project conâtrols team/representatives, contractors)
⢠Planning and scheduling (development and baselining).⢠Cost estimate/budget (development and baselining).⢠Cost and risk analysis and contingency (development and
