When Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) conducted the SCORE+ study, it basically categorised all MSC Malay-sia companies into different performance ratings, benchmarking them against a set of values to determine how well they operate. While comprehensive, MDeC decided to take it a step further engaging IDC to carry out an in-depth study within the SCORE+ programme among the top 70 companies that were identified to create a deeper understanding of the dimen-sions of competitiveness of each company. The general concept on carrying out this more thorough study is to measure their level of competitiveness in terms of local as well as regional performance. This includes studying and evaluating the operational processes, business transparencies, and overall management capabilities of these companies. The result of this study will be used as the new benchmark for future SCORE+ programmes and other performance measurement studies. In making this thorough study more comprehensive, MDeC has introduced two measurements into the evaluation process. The first is designed to study the companies’ strengths and gaps on two indices, one of which focuses on the sustainability and presence of the companies’ solutions and/or products while the other takes a closer look at the elements of strength for the selected top 70 companies in the SCORE+ programme. Using these two methodologies, this study seeks to determine how well these companies perform against regional market players. Extensive Efforts Based on the two studies carried out among the companies that took part in the SCORE+ programme, it was found that around 15% of the 70 companies that were considered have the potential to be globally competitive. This was defined through a matrix chart that was constructed based on how each company was scored on both the company value and solu-tion value indices. According to the information found, MSC Malaysia, through MDeC, will be using the new findings to augment the current details that SCORE+ has manage to generate. It will also be used to review the current benchmark standards that are now being used for SCORE+ and similar programmes, revising them to address the gaps that are evident across all the compa-nies that were surveyed. In fact, this is the strategy that is being carried out within programmes that MDeC is currently em-ploying now. Information and findings that has been gathered from this second round of study will also be implemented onto these top 70 companies, providing them with assistance on business growths and network expansion. In addition, those that have been identified as potential global icons will be grouped into “Business Acceleration Portfolios” and be given additional focus on regional market access.
Rating the Best of SCORE+
The SCORE+ and Benchmarking Results Presentation 2010 took place at KL Convention Centre on November 10 2010 at 9am.
10 Nov 2010 KLCC. MDec solicited the assistance of a global market intelligence and consulting firm, IDC Market
Research, to design and create a methodology to independently assess and rank these compa-
nies thoroughly to ultimately identify the top “Global Potential Companies”. Under the scheme,
Ygl that has been independently interviewed by an external consultant was rated one of the top
15 companies with MSC status.
