NOTRE DAME CHURCH HOUSTON, TEXAS NOVEMBER 19, 2017

From the Deacon

Jesus shares a parable with his listeners today that

challenges them and us on how we are to use the

God-given talents that we receive from our creator.

The tale of three servants invites us to look at how

eager the first two stewards were to prove

themselves worthy servants of their master. The

third steward, frozen in fear of his master,

however, missed the opportunity to manage well

the sum he had been given.

God in His goodness gives immeasurably to each of

us gifts meant to be used and multiplied for our

good and the good of others. He trusts us with the

wealth of talents meant to build up his kingdom

here on earth. How we react to this great gift from

one so generous speaks volumes about how we

approach God in our lives.

What if God entrusted to us His most precious gift

which is the capacity to love? God gives this gift to

us freely and then He sends us forth to invest in

every way possible. Rather than seek our own

personal fortune, we multiply love by investing it in

the community, our neighborhoods and family and

then inviting others to do the same.

Ultimately, the greatest lovers are those who return

to God empty. For in this sense, they have imitated

Jesus, who emptied himself, took the role of

servant, and gave himself away on the cross. When

we imitate Jesus, we hold nothing back. Fear does

not enter into our minds. The love we give away

comes back to us more than we could ever imagine.

But finally, when God calls us before the throne of

judgment, we shouldn’t be surprised when we hear

God saying: “Well done, good and faithful servant

for you act as I do.”

This week we celebrate the national holiday of

Thanksgiving. What a wonderful time to be with

family and friends. Most importantly, it can be a

time of gratitude for all of the blessings that God

has given us and continues to give us each day.

May each family of Notre Dame enjoy this day and

find peace and harmony within their households.

God bless each of you.

In Christ,

Deacon Frank

TO ALL PARISHIONERS USING

FAITH DIRECT In attempt to meet the demands of Notre Dame’s

Annual Budget, members of Notre Dame’s Finance

Council and Pastoral Council came together to review

the budget for the upcoming year.

After much discussion, consensus was to eliminate

Faith Direct, the on-line giving program offered at

Notre Dame.

The closing date for current users of Faith Direct will

be January 31, 2018. This extended cut-off date will

give you the needed time to adjust your finances and

for the parish to reinstate your monthly contribution

envelopes if you so choose.

To All members using Faith Direct. We ask your

understanding and continued support either through

the use of parish contribution envelopes or by going to

your individual bank to set up on-line reoccurring bill

pay.

Thanks to ALL for your continued love and support of

this great parish.
