Freedom of speech

Dear nordic friends,

First off welcome to Iceland! I hope you are excited for

this week as I am, although I'm pretty sure that's not

possible.

The theme for Nordic Week Orator 2014 is Freedom of

speech. Here in Iceland, as in most of the civilized world,

we regard freedom of speech as one of the basic human

rights. During the week we’re going to look at some of

the legal and social issues regarding freedom of speech.

We will attend to a lecture by lawyer Skúli Á. Sigurðsson titled Freedom of the

Press and Defaming Truths in Icelandic Law. We will also attand a lecture by Ásta

Helgadóttir titled Censored: The Politics of Porn. Ásta is member of the Icelandic

Pirate Party, an international political party whose goals includes promoting civil

rights in the 21st century.

Amongst other activities will be visits to the Supreme Court of Iceland and Harpa

Concert Hall. As always we will go on the legendary "Golden shower" tour, which

will end at our hytte destination, where the theme is music. Then our good friends

at Úlfljótur Law Review have invited us for cocktails. We will go both to the

Laugardagslaug, an outdoor swimming pool with real Icelandic hot tubs and also to

the wonderful Blue Lagoon, a unique geothermal spa experience. We're going pub

crawling in Reykjavík and also bringing back The Flourboy Games. Last but not

least the Orator årsfest, the pride of Orator, will be located in Turninn on the 20th

floor with a great view of the Reykjavík metropolitan area.

Nordiska gästar! I just have one

question are you ready? Alright,

then let’s go have some god

damn fun.

Unnþór Jónsson,

Interational secretary of Orator
