    Get started

    Before you start using your phone, remove theback cover to insert the micro-SIM card.

    Remove the back coverMake sure the phone is switched off.

    1. At the top of the phone, put your thumbnail in

    the seam between the screen frame and the backcover. Press the middle of the back cover, andbend the cover to loosen the top hooks.2. Press and bend the bottom part of the backcover to loosen the side hooks, and remove thecover.

    Insert the micro-SIM and memory card1. If the battery is in, lift it out.

    2. Push the SIM into the SIM slot until it is fullyinserted. Make sure the contact area is face down.3. If you have a microSD card, push the card intothe memory card slot until it locks into place.

    Replace the battery and back cover1. Line up the battery contacts, and put the

    battery in.2. Press the bottom edge of the back coveragainst the bottom edge of the phone.3. Press the back of the cover until it snaps intoplace.

    Charge the batteryPlug the charger into a wall outlet, and connectthe charger to your phone.

    If the battery is completely discharged, it maytake several minutes before the chargingindicator is displayed or before any calls can be

    made.

    Take photos and share

    Shoot photos with your phone camera, and sharethem instantly.

    Create a Microsoft account

    To get apps from Store or access more Microsoftservices, such as SkyDrive or Hotmail, your phoneguides you to create a Microsoft account.

    You can also sign in to your existing Microsoftaccount, which you use to access, for example,Hotmail.

    Your phone needs to connect to the internet. Ifyou don't have data plan, the data transmissioncosts may pile up quickly. For info about possibledata costs, contact your network serviceprovider.

    Save energy

    You don't need to charge your battery so oftenwhen you switch battery saver mode on. On thestart screen, swipe left, and tap Settings>battery saver.

    You can also do the following:

    Close data connections, such as Bluetooth orwireless networks, when you're not usingthem.

    Set your phone to check for new mail lessfrequently.

    Lower the screen brightness, and set the

    screen to turn off after a shorter time. Mute unnecessary sounds, such as key tones.

    Feature-specific instructions

    Using services or downloading content may cause thetransfer of large amounts of data, which may result in datacosts.

    The availability of payment methods depends on yourcountry of residence and your network service provider.

    Important: This device is designed to be used with amini-UICC SIM card, also known as a micro-SIM card only.A micro-SIM card is smaller than the standard SIM card.Use of incompatible SIM cards may damage the card orthe device, and may corrupt data stored on the card.

    Note: Switch the device off and disconnect the chargerand any other device before removing any covers. Avoid

    touching electronic components while changing anycovers. Always store and use the device with any coversattached.

    Use only compatible memory cards approved for use withthis device. Incompatible cards may damage the card andthe device and corrupt data stored on the card.

    Important: Avoid scratching the touch screen.

    You can use USB charging when a wall outlet is not

    available. Data can be transferred while charging thedevice. The efficiency of USB charging power variessignificantly, and it may take a long time for charging tostart and the device to start functioning.

    Do not connect products that create an output signal, asthis may damage the device. Do not connect any voltage

    source to the audio connector. If you connect an externaldevice or headset, other than those approved by Nokia foruse with this device, to the audio connector, pay specialattention to volume levels.

    You can send text messages that are longer than thecharacter limit for a single message. Longer messages aresent as two or more messages. Your service provider may

    charge accordingly. Characters with accents, other marks,or some language options, take more space, and limit thenumber of characters that can be sent in a single message.

    The social networking services are third-party servicesand not provided by Nokia. Check the privacy settings ofthe social networking service you are using as you may

    share info with a large group of people. The terms of useof the social networking service apply to sharing info onthat service. Familiarize yourself with the terms of use andthe privacy practices of that service.

    Important: Use encryption to increase the security ofyour Wi-Fi connection. Using encryption reduces the risk

    of others accessing your data.

    Airplane mode closes connections to the mobile networkand switches your phone's wireless features off. Complywith the instructions and safety requirements given by,for example, an airline, and any applicable laws andregulations. Where allowed, you can connect to a Wi-Fi

    network to, for example, browse the internet or switchBluetooth on in airplane mode.

    The availability, accuracy and completeness of thelocation info depend on, for example, your location,surroundings, and third party sources, and may be limited.Location info may not be available, for example, inside

    buildings or underground. For privacy info related topositioning methods, see the Nokia Privacy Policy.

    The software in this device includes software licensed byNokia from Microsoft Corporation or its affiliates. Toaccess the Windows Phone software license terms, select

    Product and safety information

    Network services and costsYou can only use your device on the WCDMA 850, 1900,2100 and GSM/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHznetworks. You need a subscription with a service provider.

    You may also need to subscribe to some features.

    Make an emergency call1. Make sure the phone is switched on.2. Check for adequate signal strength.

    You may also need to do the following:

    Put a SIM card in the device, if supported by yourdevice.

    Switch off the restrictions in your phone, such as callrestriction, fixed dialing, or closed user group. Make sure airplane modeis not switched on. If the phone screen and keys are locked, unlock

    them.

    3. Press .

    4. Select .5. Select .6. Enter the official emergency number for your presentlocation. Emergency call numbers vary by location.7. Select call.8. Give the necessary info as accurately as possible. Donot end the call until given permission to do so.

    When you switch your phone on for the first time, you areasked to create your Microsoft account and set up yourphone. To make an emergency call during the account andphone setup, tap emergency call.

    Important: Activate both cellular and internet calls, ifyour phone supports internet calls. The phone may

    attempt to make emergency calls both through cellularnetworks and through your internet call service provider.Connections in all conditions cannot be guaranteed. Never

    Battery and charger infoUse your device only with an original BL-5J rechargeablebattery. Nokia may make additional battery models

    available for this device.

    Charge your device with AC-20U charger. Charger plugtype may vary.

    Third-party chargers that comply with the IEC/EN 62684standard, and that can connect to your device micro USB

    connector, may also be compatible.

    The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds oftimes, but it will eventually wear out. When the talk andstandby times are noticeably shorter than normal, replacethe battery.

    Battery safetyAlways switch the device off and unplug the chargerbefore removing the battery. To unplug a charger or anaccessory, hold and pull the plug, not the cord.

    When your charger is not in use, unplug it. If left unused,a fully charged battery will lose its charge over time.

    Always keep the battery between 15C and 25C (59F and77F). Extreme temperatures reduce the capacity and

    lifetime of the battery. A device with a hot or cold batterymay not work temporarily.

    Accidental short-circuiting can happen when a metallicobject touches the metal strips on the battery. This maydamage the battery or the other object.

    Do not dispose of batteries in a fire as they may explode.Obey local regulations. Recycle when possible. Do notdispose as household garbage.

    Do not dismantle, cut, crush, bend, puncture, or otherwisedamage the battery in any way. If a battery leaks, do notlet liquid touch skin or eyes. If this happens, immediatelyflush the affected areas with water, or seek medical help.Do not modify, attempt to insert foreign objects into thebattery, or immerse or expose it to water or other liquids.

    Batteries may explode if damaged.

    1 Your Product has been (a) opened, modified, orrepaired without Nokias authorization, or (b) repairedwith unauthorized spare parts. Unauthorized repair or

    replacement of any Parts in the Product will, to thefullest extent permitted under applicable law, voidthis Warranty and any of your rights set forth herein.

    2 Your Product's serial number, the mobile accessorydate code, or the IMEI number has been removed,erased, defaced, altered or if these are illegible in any

    way.

    3 Your Product has been exposed to moisture, todampness or to extreme thermal or environmentalconditions or to rapid changes in such conditions, tocorrosion, to oxidation, to spillage of food or liquid orto influence from chemical products.

    4 The software your product runs on has beenmodified.

    5. OTHER IMPORTANT NOTICESAn independent operator provides the SIM card and thecellular or other network or system on which your Product

    operates. Therefore, Nokia does not assume anyresponsibility for the operation, availability, coverage,services, or range of the cellular or other networks orsystems. Before Nokia or a Nokia authorized servicecenter can repair or replace your Product, the operatormay need to unlock the SIM-lock or other lock that maylock your Product to a specific network or operator. In

    these situations, please first contact your operator andrequest it to unlock your Product.

    All parts of your Product that Nokia has replaced becomeNokias property. When repairing or replacing yourProduct, Nokia may use new or re-conditioned parts orproducts.

    If this Warranty does not cover your Product or the issuebased on which it requires service, Nokia and itsauthorized service centers reserve the right to charge for

    the repair or replacement of your Product, as well as ahandling fee.

    Your Product may contain country specific elements,including software. The warranty services available in aparticular country may be limited to the Products andcountry specific elements available in that country. Also,if your Product has been re-exported from its originaldestination to another country, your Product may containcountry specific elements that are not considered a

    defect under this Warranty even if they would not beoperational.

    6. LIMITATION OF NOKIA'S LIABILITYThis Warranty is your sole and exclusive remedy againstNokia and Nokia's sole and exclusive liability with respectto defect and damage in your Product. This Warranty

    replaces all other Nokia warranties and liabilities, whetheroral, written, (non-mandatory) statutory, contractual, intort, or otherwise, including, without limitation, and wherepermitted by applicable law, any implied conditions,warranties, or other terms as to satisfactory quality orfitness for a particular purpose. However, this Warrantyshall neither exclude nor limit i) any of your legal

    (statutory) rights under the applicable laws or ii) any ofyour rights against the seller of the Product.

    TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW(S),NOKIA SHALL NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BELIABLE, EITHER EXPRESSLY OR IMPLICITLY, FOR ANYDAMAGES OR LOSSES OF ANY KIND WHATSOEVER

    RESULTING FROM LOSS OF, DAMAGE TO, ORCORRUPTION OF, CONTENT OR DATA OR THERECREATION OR TRANSFER THEREOF EVEN IF SUCH LOSS,DAMAGE, OR CORRUPTION WAS A RESULT OF A DEFECT INYOUR PRODUCT AND FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFIT,PRODUCTS OR FUNCTIONALITY, BUSINESS, CONTRACTS,REVENUES OR ANTICIPATED SAVINGS, INCREASED COSTS

    OR EXPENSES, OR FOR ANY INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIALOR SPECIAL LOSS OR DAMAGE. NOKIAS LIABILITY SHALLBE LIMITED TO THE PURCHASE VALUE OF YOUR PRODUCT.The limitations in this clause 6 shall not apply in case of
