No Greater Love The message of Christianity is that the

Kingdom of God is love. But real love is not to be reached by living on the surface. It is rather attained by breaking through the surface, by penetrating the deeper things of ourselves, of our world and of God.

Come join us this January as we learn from John 15. Come discover what it means to abide in Christ. Abiding in Christ is the realiza-tion that we cannot become what we are intend-ed to be without having a deeper relationship with Jesus. Jesus says to us, “abide in me.” Closely attach yourself to me, just as a branch attaches itself to a vine. Come discover the greater love and abiding relationship we can have with Jesus Christ.

CHURCH NEWS 2017 Discipleship Initiative:

Follow 1-2-3-4 Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life...” This is not just an idea, but an experienced reality. To make this a reality there must be a plan. Author and pastor Richard Foster rightly states, “If we don’t have a plan for spiritual growth, we have a plan for failure.” Beginning in 2017 we are inviting you to grow in your faith & discipleship.

Here’s the plan:

n Meet with 1 other person

o Connect at least 2 times a month

p Share these 3 things: Prayer concerns, Spiritu-al goal, ministry & service

q Commit 4 one year

Men’s & Women’s Small Group Studies

January 29th through April 9th (10 week study) 6:00pm to 7:30pm on Sunday nights here at the Church For the Men: STEPPING UP! Today, more than ever, the world needs godly men. Men who will step up and courageously lead at home, at church, at work, and in their communities. That ’s the message of Stepping Up. In a world where too many men are shrinking back, Stepping Up gives men vision and tools to live godly, courageous lives. For the Women: Passion Pursuit Using scripture throughout the Bible, Passion Pursuit not only urges women to pursue passion but details how God has given them permission to do so. Though there is fun to be had along the way in this study, it hits hard on the questions women have but are hesitant to ask. This audaciously bold study combines the psychological expertise of Dr. Juli Slattery, formerly of Focus on the Family, along with moving stories from trusted Bible teacher and best-selling author Linda Dillow. The groups who have already done this study have seen their mar-riages come alive, whether they’ve been married four months or forty years!

Please note: Childcare provided. Sign up at the Wel-come center.

WOMEN OF FAITH NEWS

*NOTE: There will no WOF meeting in December WOMEN RETREAT | FEBRUARY 25 | 8:00AM - 4:00PM On Saturday, Feb. 25th, the Eaton First Church of God will be hosting April Cassidy for Women's Journey 2017. April is a mother of 2, a part-time pharmacist, Christian marriage blogger, and author of The Peaceful Wife - Living in Submission to Christ As Lord. Her book looks at the question: “What happens when a woman becomes the wife God desires her to be?”

She walks through baby steps on how to change, addressing questions such as: “What is respect?”; “How can you show respect?”; “How is being respectful different from being loving?” In the end, The Peaceful Wife is a powerful path to God's design for women to live in full submission to Christ as Lord. SIGN UP STARTING JANUARY 1ST in the Commons! Cost is $25 ($30 after January 29) and includes a light breakfast and lunch. There will be no child care provided. Feel free to contact Barbi Mann (456-9020) or Stefanie Price – (533-1491) with any questions or if you would like to help. WOMEN’S SMALL GROUP STUDIES | January 29th - April 9th (10 week study) | 6 to 7:30p on Sunday nights This is a video study called “Passion Pursuit”. Using scripture throughout the Bible, Passion Pursuit not only urges wom-en to pursue passion but details how God has given them permission to do so. Though there is fun to be had along the way in this study, it hits hard on the questions women have but are hesitant to ask. Sign up at the Welcome Center!

WORSHIP ARTS MINISTRY The new year is a great time to get involved in our wor-ship arts ministry! There are many ways to get plugged in: CHOIR – We rehearse Wednesdays from 7:00-8:15 in the sanctuary. January is a fresh start and we are begin-ning to learn all new music for the winter/spring season! This is a great time to join us. We sing 2-3 times a month, with typically one featured song a month. All ex-perience levels are welcome! WORSHIP BAND – If you play piano, guitar, bass, drums, or keyboard, this is the ministry for you! We are in need of new musicians to join our worship band rota-tion (especially pianists and guitarists). Even if you don’t have much experience, talk to Liisa about joining in. TECH TEAM – If you love working behind-the-scenes, have good attention to detail, and have an interest in technology, the tech team is a great way to get plugged into the worship at E1COG. We are in need of more team members to run our sound board and our multime-dia projection. No experience is necessary, we can train you! If you are interested in any of these ministry opportuni-ties, or any other creative arts (drama, dance, visual art), contact Liisa ([email protected]). We’d love to have you join our team! January Dates to Remember: 1/8 — Choir Scheduled, no featured song 1/22 — Choir Scheduled, no featured song 1/29 — Choir Scheduled, no featured song
