2 Nintex Workflow Hero — Investment Justification

We need a better way to implement workflows in SharePoint to support our business processes. It’s true that we can meet almost any functional requirement with custom workflows. However, the costs of custom application development, the time to market, and the costs and complexities to maintain custom solutions aren’t aligned with our goal of simple, easy and flexible process automation.

We need a solution that:

• Requires minimal effort to design, configure and implement

• Is easy to maintain (e.g., adding a field to a form or adding an additional workflow step is a minimal effort and low risk process)

• Can be extended as the business sees fit for virtually any business processWe have numerous business processes being supported that could benefit from workflow automation with the Nintex workflow platform vs. out-of-the-box SharePoint Designer, and custom code with Visual Studio.

We have numerous business processes supported by employees that could benefit from workflow automation with the Nintex workflow platform vs. out-of-the-box SharePoint Designer, or custom code with Visual Studio.

Visual Studio and Out-of-the-Box SharePoint Designer

With the limitations that come with OOTB (Out-of-the-Box) workflows and even SharePoint Designer workflows, it’s tempting to build custom workflows in code using Visual Studio. However, custom code workflows are very expensive and time-consuming — not only the initial implementation, but also the ongoing maintenance they require.

Additionally, there have been many instances where a business user would like to make a change (e.g., adding an approval step in the workflow) but the effort/cost of making the change, deploying, testing, and handling versioning of the workflow make it prohibitive. We often must wait until there are several changes required and bundle them to create a mini-business case to justify the cost vs. value and extensive time required.

We’ve supplied the below text to help you make a strong case for your Nintex investment. Feel free to use the content in this document for everything from

explaining Nintex to colleagues to completing purchase request documentation.

WHY WORKFLOW?

3 Nintex Workflow Hero — Investment Justification

Native SharePointNintex Workflow is built natively on SharePoint using pre-existing SharePoint infrastructure and the Windows Workflow Foundation. The benefit is that we can leverage our existing architecture and infrastructure, and avoid incurring the costs of implementing, serving and supporting additional platforms.

Easy InstallNintex Workflow installs in minutes. No need to install clunky or outdated add-ons to client machines as required by some other workflow software.

Quick Design and DeploymentWorkflows are designed with no downtime. When we create and publish our workflow, Nintex Workflow simply picks up the new design when the next instance runs. Unlike options from other vendors that require every designed workflow be compiled, packaged, deployed and activated before they can be used.

No Code RequiredNintex is designed for value and easy adoption by business users. Their easy-to-use interface allows immediate creation of workflows for new users while rich and deep functionality extends value for power users. Because developer skills are not required to create Nintex workflows, we will have faster deployment, easier updates and modifications, and lower total costs.

No Additional Software or Hardware RequirementsA Nintex investment is all about making things as easy as possible. No requirements for Kerberos installation to work with SharePoint. No additional hardware resources needed. NBo Silverlight requirements. No client-side software installation.
