Editors Reflection:Well , autumn once again, a time for raking leaves, trick-or- treaters, and

residents putting up their Christmas decorations. We set our clocks back to

standard time on the first Sunday which is November 6th. November is also a

time for wondering which city councilmembers will get another term. Thisshould be decided when we go to the Polls on November 8th, with the polls

opening at 7AM and sunrise at 7:20 AM Eastern Standard Time. Even before

we know it, it's time for Silver Bells in the City: the kickoff of the Christmas

    season. Have a great one.

    The Clocks Fall Back

Daylight savings time ends in 2011 on Nov.6th. The editor of this publication has been

Advocating that Michigan exempt itself from this annual ritual of spring forward-fall backHowever he has seen no interest by state lawmakers who would enact the exemption.

The Uniform time act of 1966 provided for a national standardization program but allowed

exemptions. This was replaced by the Energy Policy Act of 2005 which decreed that DSTWould start the second Sunday in March and end the first Sunday in November. Since

November starts on Tuesday we have five days of daylight savings time this November.

Use of outdoor motion detector lights help. Give your home the look and feel of being lived in by use of timers. Having

lights and radios with properly used timers will accomplish this. Make sure all your doors and windows are locked when

leaving your home- even for a short time. Remember 40% of all burglaries happen through unlocked doors andwindows. Keep all your valuables out of sight or use a safe deposit box at a bank. One good idea is to have a security

closet inside your home to conceal large or valuable items. Call 911 if you suspect someone is trying to break in. If

confronted by a robber in your house Remain Calm, the majority of robbers are young and inexperienced persons who

are extremely nervous. Turn over your property. Possessions can be replaced. Get a good description. As soon as they

leave write it down and call authorities to report the crime.

The holiday season is a time when we exchanges greetings, gifts and warm wishes. It is also a busy time for pickpockets

    and robbers.

Remember to park in well lit area and lock vehicle. All packages inside car should be moved to trunk or covered with adark blanket. In store, when possible, shop with friends, and use debit or credit cards rather than cash. Keep control of

purses and when using rest room keep purse off floor. Have a safe holiday season, and let's all take a bite out of crime.

Leaf PickupChurchill Downs is full of trees.

Every year those trees shed their leaves.

Unless you have special permission you

cannot burn leaves in the city of Lansing.

If you put them in plastic bags you will need

a private haulerbecause the city will not

accept them packed that way. However the

City Public Service department will accept

them in paper yard bags on the regular trashpickup dates. The last week that these bags

can be set out to the curb is Nov.28-Dec 1.

Leaves should NOT be raked into a public

    street.
