    Care for My orphans

    Prayer and Praise

    by Whitney Mulkey

When our team was prayed over before we left for the Romania mission trip, the pastor men-tioned that we were going there to care for orphan children. This thought echoed in my mind as I prepared to leave my home in Tennessee and also when I first began to minister to the orphans at a campsite in the Carpathian Mountains in Roma-nia. When I saw firsthand the little orphans that Pathway to Joy is ministering to, I thought of Psalm 82:3: Give justice to the poor and the orphan; up-hold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute and James 1:27: Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and other verses that soon became for me a desperate and urgent plea from God on their behalf.

Before I arrived at the camp, I had thought that car-ing for orphans meant meeting their basic needs, giving them hugs, and playing a few games. But once I was there, I knew God wanted more from me for them. I asked myself what I wanted for Kate-lyn, my 12-year-old daughter, as she stayed with caregivers while I traveled to Romania. I wanted more than a bed for her... more than meals... more than clean clothes... or even safety or fun activities. I wanted her caregivers to really see her, comfort her, listen to her, set a good example for her, protect her, make her feel welcome and understood, empathize with her... to laugh at her jokes, and to make her laugh. Basically, I wanted them to love her like I do until I returned to scoop her up myself.

    Care for My Orphans

    July 2015

Being in Romania taught me that God wants this same love for His orphans. He has the same pas-sion, love, and care for them as I have for my little Katelyn. The orphans in Romania are so important to Him that He tells us to make provision for them. I am, in a way, His hands as I interact with these precious Romanian children. My love is His love; my care is His care. Everything I do, I do it as His caregiver.

God knows the challenges and roadblocks these children face in knowing Him. I am called, together with the staff of Pathway to Joy, to remove the road-blocks and to help them through their challenges. God knows how needy and vulnerable they are, and

He wants to help them and bless them through all of us, Romanians and Americans alike. In my discussions with the older Romanian kids, I noticed a common disillusionment, apathy, and confusion concerning the Bible and God.

They seemed to have difficulty... Believing God is real Believing they are loved and accepted Comprehending grace and forgiveness Trusting others and God

I love my little Katelyn so much, and yet God loves the Romanian orphans even more. Con-fronted with the reality of the need these kids have, it made me feel overwhelmed and hope-less. Their salvation seemed impossible. But God has ways to encourage us when we feel overwhelmed with despair and hopelessness. It was God that brought to my attention the con-versation between the Angel Gabriel and the future mother of our Lord and Savior, Mary, delivered in Luke 1:37.

Gabriel said to Mary: For no word from God will every fail. And Marys answer: I am the Lords servant... may Your word to me be ful-filled. This bought comfort to me because I realized that while we are feeble and weak, God is strong and all-powerful. This attribute of His enables Him to fulfill His promises.

Thinking of the great needs the Romanian or-phan children have, I was further comforted and encouraged by The Lords words to the dis-ciples in Mathew 19:26: Jesus looked at them and said, With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.

I believe with all my heart that God, the father to the fatherless, will enable Pathway to Joy and all of us who support and pray for these orphans to continue this important ministry. Also, I en-courage you to join this effort, to be the instru-ments God is using to bring these orphans to faith and salvation. >

Praise God for the great ministry accomplished, with the help of Calvary Chapel Chattanooga, TN in our PTJM 2015 Orphan Camp in the Carpathian Alps in Transylvania, Romania.Praise God that we experienced no injuries and everything went off without any incidents.Praise God for the 17 young people that accepted the Lord in our last service together. Please pray for our summer support to come in.
