The following examples illustrate the newest research and development activities by Clariant.

The basic principle of Clariant’s C6 flourocarbon finish

The new generation of Nuva® N products based on the latest C6 fluor chemistry offers an expanded product range with a much wider scope of application. The ‚N‘ in the product name stands for: novel chemistry, non-detectable PFOA (below limit of detection), notable improvement in repellence, and non-sensitive in regard to compatibility with finishing chemicals.

Another example: the Appretan® series is an ultra-low formaldehyde polymer dispersions complying with standard requirements defined by Oeko-Tex or Ecolabel. Appretan E polymer dispersions are selfcrosslinking to achieve a high level of performance in technical applications. Clariant is now taking a further step and offering a new range with an improved ecological profile: Appretan NF. Appretan NF (non-formaldehyde) has no crosslinkers in place which do neither split nor release formaldehyde. Still the product is self crosslinking and offers excellent performance.

And last but not least, Pekoflam®. The new Pekoflam range is a clear move away from classical halogenated flame retardants to less harmful non-halogenated alternatives containing neither bromine nor chlorine-atoms. These products are thus highly environmentally sounder and this is what makes Pekoflam so popular with our customers.

Pekoflam MSP liq

This Oeko-Tex 100 class II listed product is a development of a modified semi-permanent flame retardant with reduced hygroscopic properties.

Very good water soaking resistance can be achieved by thermoset treatments at 160-170°C, and an addition of selected softeners could be required to optimize handle and sewing.

Appretan NF liq shows very interesting properties on non-wovens, in particular its alcohol resistance and its wet elongation.

Appretan NF liq is also recommended in pigment printing system as it is formaldehyde free.

Nuva N2155 liq is based on Clariant‘s C6 chemistry and is therefore PFOA-free* and performs like state-of-the-art C8 chemistry.

Thanks to its very good alcohol and blood repellence, fast curing profile even at low temperature, it is especially recommended for medical or industrial products and applications.

Being non-fogging, non-hygroscopic and stable at high temperature, Pekoflam is especially suitable for automotive back-coatings of seat covers and carpets due to its resulting high hydrolysis resistance.

It withstands common dry cleaning systems, and can achieve limited wash fastness as well, if incorporated in a preferably hydrophobic binder matrix.

Sanitized New antimicrobial additive

With people spending more time in public transport, textile manufacturers are required to offer products that stay cleaner and safer during their entire life-cycle. With Sanitized®3 additives, solutions can be developed in order to answer the needs of these specifi c applications.

Sanitized PL 24-32

The new Sanitized PL 24-32 combines a reliable protective function against fungal and yeast infestation for soft PVC with user safety. The development of “pink stain” is prevented. Sanitized PL 24-32 is also effective against streptoverticillia, which causes unpopular stains.

Sanitized TH 27-24

Enhanced performance and compatibility for textile protection in the mattress, home textiles and construction textiles sectors: Sanitized TH 27-24 is well known for its broad spectrum of effi cacy and its excellent properties in hygiene and material protection and protection against house dust mites.

New large spectrum antimicrobial protection for the PUR industry: Sanitized TPL 27-40, effective against a broad range of microbes encompassing bacteria, yeasts and fungi. Incorporated in polyurethane the additive is resistant to water exposure.
