INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORSThe Editors welcome submissions of material for pub-lication on all aspects of field mycology. Articlesshould aim to have a wide appeal and be written in astyle suitable for the non-specialist. Book reviews andgeneral review articles are also welcome. Originals offigures should be about twice the linear size of thedesired final reproduction. Editors will corresponddirectly with authors where revision is needed andproofs will normally be sent to the principal author atgalley stage. Colour proofs are not provided. All corre-spondence and material for publication should beaddressed to the Editor, see above.
Text may be typewritten, via E-mail or on disk (flop-py, CD-ROM) and is acceptable in any MS WIN-DOWS or APPLE MACINTOSH word processor appli-cation. Illustrations can be submitted as hardcopy(prints or transparencies) or as high resolution scans(300 dpi minimum) on disk (or via email) in anygraphic file format.

Species ID course
Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) hassome spaces still available on their Certificate inBiological Recording and Species Identificationoffered in conjunction with Field Studies Council(FSC) and the Botanical Society for the British Isles.
This part time course has been designed toprovide a strong skills base in biological identifica-tion and recording in the field. There is a wide rangeof module choices available, including invertebrates,vertebrates, botany, mycology, surveying andNational Vegetation Classification.
Learning through short residential courses fromexpert tutors will give students hands-on experienceand enable them to develop high quality field identi-fication skills over the one or two year duration.Modules are held at FSC Centres across the UK,giving access to stunning locations and a rich varietyof habitats.
The Certificate is ideal for those who an involve-ment or interest in natural history – voluntary orprofessional – and no previous qualifications arerequired. Those who have completed the Certificatehave often gone on to improve in their career ormove into jobs in ecology or biological recording.
