Juniors are Wild at Art!
To help foster the next generation of environmental leaders, the junior class have been cre-ating a joint artwork of koalas, one of Australia’s threatened animals.
Storyboard Bus
We were excited to have the Storyboard Bus visit us
this week. Author Benjamin Gilmour shared many life
stories with us and taught us how to turn these
events in to stories that entertain others. We took
time to write in the tepees and then enjoyed sharing
our stories with our classmates.
Senior English
We have finished our novel—Tales of a Fourth Grade
Nothing, and we ended the term creating Book
Trailers. We published these to our private YouTube
channel and invited the Junior class to view them
with us.
Creative Arts
The junior and senior class have been joining together to sing, dance and play musical instruments in preparation for our NAIDOC assembly. We look forward to performing for our family and friends.
We have completed our NAIDOC Artworks—tiled Under One Sky– Yesterday, Today and Forever. The following artworks were created by Nikki and Evie.
Art Enrichment Day
A small number of our senior class were excited to travel to experience and Art Enrichment Day with our friends at Goonengerry Public School and Wilsons Creek Public School.
They spent he day engaging in a number of exciting art activities.
The Year 6 students learnt about print making and used their lino print to make these personalised shopping bags.
COVID update
Parents will be aware of the changing situation in Sydney re COVID. Our guidelines in this area have not changed recently. Principals will be updated during the holidays. If there is any information that will effect Newrybar PS students I will email families and have information posted on the parents communication page.
Wet Shoes
Please send a pair of dry socks with your children in Term 3. Many of the children get wet shoes and socks running around on the grass before school as the dewy grass takes some time to dry. This will enable little toes to stay warm while socks and shoes dry in the sun.
Library Books
We encourage all students to borrow books and the school does not issue fines for overdue books, however, many students have quite a stack of books at home. During the holidays please find all books and return at the beginning of term 3. Books can be returned to the red tub in the library any day. Library days for borrowing are Mondays for the seniors and Fridays for the juniors.
Junior Art
This week we created our own flowers using
line, pastels and dye. We added our flowers
to one large display. We look forward to
sharing this with you at our Art Show next
term.
Junior Maths
We have had fun learning about symmetry in our Maths lessons. We used our names and reflected them across a line of symmetry to create our own ‘Name Aliens’.
Junior English
The class have been learning about non-fiction
text and listening to information about water.
They have been writing facts about snow, frost,
ice bergs and wild storms. We learnt that each
snowflake has a 6 sides with a different pattern.
After we made our own snowflake we tried to
make it snow and discovered the sun helped
make interesting snowflake shadows instead.
Junior Inquiry
Students experimented with trying to mimic rainfall
as part of the water cycle. They used shaving foam
for the clouds and dropped blue food colouring on
top of it to try and stimulate rainfall into the water.
They then drew a picture of the experiment and
discussed what happened.
Senior Inquiry
We have continued to learn about the importance
of saving water. We used the Nudel Kart to create
our own devices that save and use water wisely.
We also researched countries that do not have
access to clean drinking water. Some children walk
six kilometres every day to find water. As a group,
we tag-teamed and walked 6 kms carrying 10 litres
of water. We realised how hard this is and how
lucky we are to have clean running water.
Athletics Carnival It was great to see so many students enjoying themselves at the Small Schools athletics carnival at Byron Bay on Monday. Our students are to be commended on their sportsmanship and fantastic behaviour. The juniors had a run in the 50m dash and then enjoyed novelty events. The seniors participated in long jump, shot put, discus , and running events.
