I am very pleased at the accomplishments that this agency achieved in 2016. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all board members, employees, and volunteers for their ef-forts to improve the quality of life for our low-income clients.

In addition to our normal activities our auditors have com-pleted our annual agency audit. The months of November and December were filled with several monitoring visits from several different funding sources. I am pleased to say that so far we have had outstanding reports back. We are working hard to reduce the economic impact on our budgets and our low-income clients caused by the current Oklahoma financial crisis.

STARTING THE NEW YEAR RIGHT IN 2017:

Supervisors and staff; Questions to ask yourself:

*What can I do to improve my performance?

*Am I a team player?

*Do I use the terms I, me, and my when referring to the things we accomplish?

*Am I a gossip, whiner, griper, or complainer? How can I change my attitude?

We are looking forward to new opportunities and challenges that 2017 will bring. Happy New Year!

Carroll Huggins, CCAP Executive Director / CEO

Great Job!

Good Ones & Bad Ones

Habits for the New Year The healthy habits (healthy eating, exercising and not smoking) that your children form today will follow them all of their life. Make sure everyone fills their plate with half fruits and vegetables. It’s not only good for them, it’s also low in calories. Getting sixty minutes a day of physical activity combats obesity and promotes overall good health.

I know someone that started a new job delivering mail five to six days a week and has lost approximately sixty pounds in about a year and a half. They didn’t even change their eating habits that much. After wearing a pe-dometer, they were surprised to find they were taking about 20,000 steps a day delivering mail. The increase in daily physical activity caused the weight loss.

Moderation is almost always the best. Exercise combined with healthy eating habits is one of the best combinations you can have for a healthy life-style. If you help your children to learn these good habits then they may never learn the bad habits. It is easier to learn good habits from the beginning than to have to unlearn them later on. If you have bad habits try to replace them with good habits.

Also, instead of smoking a cigarette try to eat a carrot or a piece of celery. Instead of drinking lots of soda try drink-ing water first and see if you still want as much soda. No, it won’t be easy at first; but the rewards and habits you pick up instead could be the good ones.

Remember there is 1-800-quit now ready to help if you are ready to stop smoking.

The start button on an office copier has times more bacteria than a pet bowl.

Trouble’s Brewing... Looks like our office’s coffee pot could also use a Lysol wipe. The study found that the handle averages 108,592 CFU.

That gives a whole new meaning to the phrase

“dirty work.” When tem-plate company Hloom

teamed with testing labora-tory EMLab P&K to scope

out the cleanliness of five office spaces, they found that copier controls aver-aged 1,2000,013 colony-forming units per square

inch. (In germ jargon, CFU refers to the number of bacteria cells a sample

contains.) By comparison, a pet bowl has only 306,000

CFU per square inch. There is a slight silver

living, though: Further analysis showed that only

half of the start button’s CFU were harmful kind of

bacteria that can cause skin infections and pneumonia. Still, we won’t blame you for reaching for the hand

sanitizer.

If your income is less than $54,000 and you have a BASIC Income Tax return, KI BOIS Community Action will prepare and e-file your Income Taxes for FREE!

much more than I need and even things I never use. I plan to reduce excess purchases/spending, screen time, belongings and "stuff", food and calorie consumption and focus more on what I need. - Tammy Randazzo, Supportive Services for Veterans Families My New Year's resolution for this year is simply to be a better person this year than I have been. To set a bet-ter example for not only my kids, but also all those around me. To be a better Christian and to make sure to put God first and foremost in my life in all things. That is my New Year's Resolution. - Shaunda Noah Director Foster Grandparent Program My resolution this year is to improve my health, travel more and be more adventurous!          - Denice Daniels Wellness Coordinator Healthy Living Program My thoughts on 2017……..I want to spend more time living in the moment and less time living on my cell phone. I want to express more positive than negative statements. I want to eat healthier and exercise more. And last but certainly not least….try and be a quieter fan at my grandchildren’s sporting events! - Jan Garner, Fiscal Officer Making resolutions for me is a lost cause - I never keep them, but I would like to express my appreciation for the compassionate women who work in KI BOIS DV programs and those who support our efforts. - Anne Peck, Director Domestic Violence Program and Shelters My new year's resolution is to be less wasteful. My main issue is cooking and leftovers going to waste. I have de-cided to make a weekly menu and only purchase the food I need for each meal. If we have leftovers it gets frozen or turned into something different. Like a roast becoming enchiladas, baked chicken into dumpling. Pinto beans into bean dip. Mary Montgomery, Director Retired Senior Volunteer Program
