Common features of the four programs:

• Grouping: 40 Students and two teachers in a double-sized classroom.

• Integration of disciplines: No separate language arts, science, or social studies.

• Academic Levels: Open to students of all abilities. Differentiation occurs within the class.

• Authentic Assessment Methods: More projects, presentations, and writing tasks with a reduced emphasis on traditional grading methods.

• Progress Reporting: Self assessments, mid-year and end-of-year evaluations, and student led conferences.
