MPTS Run for 2008

• Polarizer in place for the first time– Reduces background radiation, but saturation

remains a problem

• First run with in-situ window calibration– Window coating observed and measured

• Two laser shutdowns– Measures now in place to improve reliability

• Phase-3 calibration done after the run• New analysis performed

Page 3: New MPTS Analysis for 2008

New MPTS Analysis for 2008

• Phase-3 channel calibration for 2008– Change Te @R=54.5cm

• Software modification to add extra time points under background light saturation

• In-situ window calibration– Increase ne about 10% at end or run– Increase Te within error bar

• Valid array (ntime, nrad)– Valid>0 means ok

Phase-3 2008 CalibrationMain change seen at R=54.5cm

Output Array VALID (ntime, nrad)Has same dimensions as Tef, etc.

• VALID=1 ok

• VALID=2 ok with background sat

• VALID=3 ok,but with bckgd-sat “repair”

• VALID=-1 too high

• VALID=-2 too high with bckgd sat

• VALID=-4 ok, but dTe > Te

Concluding Remarks

• New analysis will be loaded to MDS soon– During the Holidays

• Valid array– Valid > 0 indicates ok, – but caveat emptor when valid=3

• Window coating effects were corrected based on the in-situ calibration– Effects seen at end of the run on Te and ne

– Correction meaningful at the of the run
