School—5491 4522 Unity College – 5490 5777 We recognise the traditional owners of this land the Gubbi Gubbi peoples. We wish Col O’Brien all the very best as he retires as Principal of Our Lady of the Rosary Primary School. It would be difficult to find two personalities more different than Col and myself and yet for my part I have learnt a great deal from Col as I have seen him lead the school community and interact with the children in his care. Col truly loves the children at our school and especially those who are on the margins and those who may struggle. He is an inspiration in his desire to see justice and mercy, so important to all Christians, being applied to the education of young people. In doing so Col has challenged many people and sometimes known their anger. He has made a significant mark upon our school in his eleven years as Principal and for this we will always be grateful. A very happy retirement Col, safe travels and we look forward to seeing you among us. Mr Ian Morice will be Acting Principal for term four and the new Principal, who will commence next year, will be announced in the very near future. We wish Fr Joseph well as he soon leaves us to begin his ministry as Parish Priest at St Rita’s Parish Victoria Point. We have all benefited from Joseph’s gentle manner and prayerful example. It has been a pleasure to have him among us and I know he will be a greatly welcomed at Victoria Point. There will be a morning tea after 9.30am Mass next Sunday 27 th September and all are welcome to attend. First Communion celebrations are a definite highlight in the life of the parish. Last weekend nearly 50 young people received Holy Communion and completed their initiation into the Church. I am grateful to their parents and families who have prepared them and I am particularly grateful to Jeanette Smyth and the Sacramental Team for their dedication and the generous way they have supported families during this time of preparation. I look forward to challenging these young people in how best they can serve the faith community. Last week at a Parish Finance Council meeting it was asked how the Parish may be involved in assisting refugees arriving in Australia from Syria. The Social Justice Network were asked for guidance but in the meantime Archbishop Coleridge has written to every Parish seeking their assistance in providing accommodation for at least one family per parish. It is my strong desire that Caloundra Parish meet this request. This will take some coordination on our part. While the parish does not own any property which is available at this stage perhaps the Homes Company which owns the Karingal site could be involved. All options will be explored and more information will be given when available. God bless, Fr Kevin.
