Network Proposal:

Feasibility Study:

Objective

This proposal is being prepared for the company NPL in order to develop a local area network,

having internet access with swiftness and speediness at each and every point or node in office

and local area as well. The proposal for developing a LAN is mainly to provide services to

employees within the company including branches of NPL all around Malaysia.

NPL is in need for such kind of network for all computers within the organization in order to

have internet access and proper connectivity to its devices, Which will be helpful to cater the

growing number of employees and also will increase the efficiency of employees which in turn

will help the company to sustain in the corporate world by proceeding business products in such

a competitive environment.

Network range:

The networks consist of local area network within the company and also have the internet

connection so that they can have connectivity within their branches in Malaysia

Objective of network:

The main objective of network is to increase the efficiency of the employees and to sustain in the

corporate environment.

High Speed LAN: In this network LAN connectivity is made with a high speed so that

employees can share information with each other. For the LAN connectivity we are using

category 5 unshielded twisted pair cables

Security: Security is also required for un authorization access, so that no one from

outside can enter the network and security is also required to make administration easier.

User: This network will be used by the employees inside the company as well as by top

level management people.

Need of network:

NPL requires the network in order to communicate and transfer data between branches within

Malaysia and their customers.

The Types of Data:

The NPL Company will transfers the details of sales, purchasing price of products and profit and

loss details, this data will be sent to the other branches of the company. The equipment models,

retail prices of the products, and information about the product they are selling including all

other necessary information they require for the clients.

Types of applications used to create data:

MS-Word : For creating data

MS-PowerPoint: For making presentation for the demos of their product

MS-Visio : For building prototyping

MS-Access: To store information about employees

MS-Outlook: Sending E-mails etc

ERP Tools: For managing official works

As this is the furniture company the speed of the transmission is not required that much high but

still we are having LAN connection and UTP cables are used so that the cost of the network is

not much high. For the internet we are using broadband connection with higher bandwidth.

Storage requirements:

In this network we need enough storage so that we can store the data of the employees.

Design theory:

This network is designed for the NPL Company located in Malaysia. Company has four storeys

building in which they needs a network with high speed LAN connectivity.

This proposal also tells us about the internet connectivity to all nodes in the organization.

Even need to have the connectivity to other branches of the company in Malaysia

This is the view of ground floor of Net Value Private Company with the centralized switch. In

The ground floor consists 5 desktops and 2 printers there is Wi-Fi connection available and 16

port switch is used for the connectivity of the LAN. This floor we have internet connection in all

departments. We had also established the Wi-Fi for the guest or the clients for their internet use

on their laptops. We will be having a Mac based registration for each and every laptop. The Wi-

Fi range will be till the MD office so that it can be used by Managing Director also. In the

reception we had placed a single phone with a 1 desktop with internet connection

First Floor:

This is the view of first floor of Net Value Private Company with the centralized switch. In this

floor different departments are located

The first floor consists of 8 desktops, 2 projector, and 2 screens. In this we are using 16 port

switches for the LAN connectivity as well for the internet connection. This floor we do not have

the internet connection in the accounts department. In the conference room we are using the

internet connection for a single desktop that is attached to the projector in this room we are also

having 25 microphones attached to each and every seat. We also have meeting room with 1

desktop with internet connection and projector, this is room is basically used for the small

meeting in the organizations.

Second Floor:

This is the view of second floor of Net Value Private Company with the centralized switch. In

this floor we have marketing and design department.

The second floor consists of 21 desktops and single printer, connectivity is done using 24 port

switch for the LAN connection. This floor is marketing and design department. Internet

connection is given to each and every desktop in this floor as they are going to do research,

marketing and designing,

This is the view of third floor of Net Value Private Company with the centralized switch. In this

each other by using switch.

This is the view of fourth floor of Net Value Private Company with the centralized switch. In this

The fourth floor consists of 3 desktops. In this floor we are having workshop and store. We are

not having internet connection to the workshop but in the store we are having the internet

connection. The LAN connection is being established among two departments in this floor.

This is the entire view of the NPL Company in which we had designed a network.

As in this building each floor have connection among themselves, for the connectivity of the

floor to floor connection we require one more switch so that each floor is connected to each

other. That main switch is attached to the proxy server that will also acts like a firewall and other

side we have VPN server that will enable to establish the connection among other branches in

Malaysia. The wired router is connected to the switch and with the internet so that throughout the

building we can establish or provide the internet required we can enable or disable the internet

connection where it is not required using proxy server.

Conclusion:

This project is mainly developed to use the high speed internet connection within the

organization. As we have used many security features to make network secure, this design

provides very flexible and high speed LAN & WAN connectivity to the employees and its client.

Also shares data to all its branches around Malaysia. This design will also prove to be helpful in

catering the growing number of employees or users in the company. So we have concluded that

company’s main motive, purpose to develop business products and to share information with

others can easily be achieved by using this designed network.

Only requirement is online presence in order to know about company’s product, updates and

upcoming products.

Selecting the programming language

Currently the Netvalue Public Limited Company is currently using COBOL and FORTRAN but

they were facing some problems like:

Difficult to maintain

limited in its ability to do mathematical functions

Slow in processing

A dying obsolescent language.

Sometimes shows error while executing

Incompatible with other software and operating system

Now we decided to implement the Visual Basic as a programming language for development

of custom software for the company.

Visual Basic:

Visual Basic is the third-generation event-driven programming language and integrated

development environment from Microsoft for its COM programming model. VB is also

considered a relatively easy to learn and use programming language, because of its graphical

development features and BASIC heritage.

Visual Basic was derived from BASIC and enables the rapid application development of

applications, access to databases using Data Access Objects, Remote Data Objects, or ActiveX

Data Objects, and creation of ActiveX controls and objects. Scripting languages such as VBA

and VBScript are syntactically similar to Visual Basic, but perform differently.

Advantages of Visual Basic

VB is a rapid application Tool to develop applications faster

plug and play wizards to connect databases

The structure of the Basic programming language is very simple, particularly as to the

executable code.

VB is not only a language but primarily an integrated, interactive development

environment

The VB-IDE has been highly optimized to support rapid application development It is

particularly easy to develop graphical user interfaces and to connect them to handler

functions provided by the application.

Programming Language Translator:

The interpreter, we are using here is in visual basic which translates source code to machine

code. Interpreter in visual basic translates one code at a time; it reads one source code statement

in custom software and immediately translates the entries followed by executing invoices before

the next one is processed. Main function of interpreter is to read all the statements and program

run on virtual machine ; it translates the binary code which is nor read neither complied during

execution of program only the syntactical error will be shown , were logical errors are found in

visual basic while running the program which will be very helpful for the company

programmers to detect and debug the errors because of its flexible and immediate execution

followed by evaluation of interpreter in visual basic makes the custom software to run faster

which in turns leads to quick processing and updating details of the company.

Monitor: As the design network for this company is feasible, we have suggested them to use

TFT-LCD monitor, which is a thin film Transistor-Liquid crystal display. This monitor has many

features mentioned below

Consumes less than one-third of power

It produces high quality image

It also occupies less space

It produces less radiation

Though in an organization number of LCD’s are used and as TFT-LCD consumes less power,

which in turns help organization to reduce their expenses in the area consumed.

Microphones: Since it is an organization group meetings are held in the conference hall, we

preferred to use microphones for meetings we can produce speech loudly and clearly as well.

Microphones are very important for the conference room so that people listening to speech can

hear the words clearly.

Projector: We preferred to use liquid crystal display projector. It is a standard with poly silicon

which offers a higher quality than other projector with light weight

It offers a bright and a sharp picture with vibrant rich colors

Uses very less power but displays high level contrast and brightness

It mainly, during the business presentations. We suggest organization for LCD projectors

Fax Machine: A device that sends and receives printed pages or images over telephone line by

converting them to and from electronic is called fax.

We are using cannon laser class, malfunction device which offers many good features such as:

Built in G3 technology ( can print 35 scan copies per minute)

Large document memory

Comes with standard internet fax

It also allows the user to convert the scanned documents into file format that can be easily

transferred over the internet.

The main feature of this machine is that it has 33.6 Kbps modem speed, which the very much as

compared to other fax machines.

Printer: Any device that makes an impression on media, usually paper and is connected to a

computer is called printer. We are using laser printer for network, due to following reasons

Printing speed(uses laser beam)

Higher accuracy and resolution

This printer can print on transparent, adhesive cables and light weight cards. Laser printer with

duplex printing can print on one side of the paper; turn the paper automatically for printing on

the other side which saves time. It also has USB port in it. It holds capacity of 150 sheets and

comes with 2 MB memory.
