What is life without Nefise Özkal Lorentzen (1964) is a Turkish-Norwegian writer and filmmaker, living in Oslo. She has a BA. in political science at Bosphorus University, Istanbul and a MA. in media and communication at the University of Oslo. She has directed ten documentaries about several controversial themes, published a poetry book and a novel for youth. In her work she hopes to make untold stories visible. She believes that change starts with youth.

When I was a child I was cross-eyed. I did not look like the princess of the mother. I know what it means to be different. I think this experience taught me how I can distinguish genuine empathy or fake- friendliness between each other. Since I used glasses since the age of 3 my cross-eyed problem has gone, but my body remembers the feeling of “exclusion” and “double communications”. Maybe that is the reason I am so attached with fragile stories. I am not using my camera as a voyeur but as a tool, which can bring up the inner strength of any human being.N.Ö. Lorentzen
