~~~~~A bit of News ~~~~~
We received a parcel grantof$10,000. from A-tax board of Aiken county and the board allocated $5,000.for this project for a 18th Century Indian trader’s house. We are in pursuit of additional funding and in kind donations .
The overriding economic and political engine of the area up until the Revolution-ary War was Indian Trade. Anyone living in the area for the first hundred years was directly affected by the Indian Trade. With the natural spring and its proximity to the trail, the park itself was an obvious location for traveling traders. In October, 1674 Dr. Henry Woodward traveled with the Westo Indians, for the purpose of trade, to their village “Hickauhauga” that stood in the area of present day Augusta, Ga.” This narrow stretch of river (at that time was only 12 ft. wide and 12 in. deep.) includes names, according to the time, Savannah Town, New Windsor, Silver Bluff, and Augusta were all established because of the Indian trade. Therefore the history of the area is the Indian Trade, which is why we are pursuing the construction of this :
