The Narmada(Devanagari:,Gujarati: ), also called the Rewa, is a
river in central India and the
fifth longest river in theIndian subcontinent. It is the third
longest river that flows entirely within India,
after theGodavariand theKrishna. It forms the traditional
boundary betweenNorth IndiaandSouth
Indiaand flows westwards over a length of 1,312 km (815.2 mi)
before draining through theGulf of
Khambhatinto theArabian Sea, 30 km (18.6 mi) west ofBharuchcity
ofGujarat.[1]It is one of only three
major rivers in peninsular India that run from east to west
(longest west flowing river), along with
theTapti Riverand theMahi River. It is the one of the rivers in
India that flows in arift valley, flowing
west between theSatpuraandVindhyaranges. The other rivers which
flows throughrift
valleyincludeDamodar RiverinChota Nagpur Plateau& Tapti.
TheTapti RiverandMahi Riveralso flow
through rift valleys, but between different ranges. It flows
through the states ofMadhya
Pradesh(1,077 km (669.2 mi)), andMaharashtra, (74 km (46.0 mi))
(35 km (21.7 mi)) then along the
border betweenMadhya PradeshandMaharashtraand (39 km (24.2 mi)
and the border betweenMadhyaPradeshandGujaratand inGujarat(161 km
(100.0 mi)).[2]
ThePeriplus Maris Erythraei(c. 80 CE) calls it the
Nammadus,[3]and theBritish Rajcalled it the Nerbudda
or Narbada.[4]Narmad is aSanskritword meaning "the Giver of

What is jyotirlinga ?
Worship of shivalinga is considered the prime
worship for the devotees of Lord shiva. Worship of
all other forms is considered secondary. The
significance of the shivalinga is that It is the
resplendent light (flame) form of the Supreme -
solidified to make the worship of It easier. It
represents the real nature of God - formless
essentially and taking various forms as It wills.
