Napulo ka Sugo Para sa Asawa

Born: July 24, 1954Alicia Tan-Gonzales of the University of the Philippines Visayas. She is a fictionist, poet and playwright in Hiligaynon, the Ilonggo dialect. She also won several Palanca Literary Awards for Hiligaynon short story.

 she studied at La Salle College in Bacolod in 1975 and at the Ateneo de Manila University in 1981. She writes in Hiligaynon, the language of her birth and thus the language she is most comfortable with.She has earned many rewards, including numerous CCP writing grants and a first place in the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards in Literature for Short Story in the Hiligaynon Division in 1999.

Her winning piece was entitled “Kahapunanon sa Laguerta ni Alberto” (Late Afternoon in Alberto’s Garden). The story is about a man who, late in life, accepts the fact of his being homosexual, and attracted as he is to the scion of a rich family that he had hated and battled with since boyhood. This is Gonzales’ eighth Palanca win.  

Gonzales writes poems, fiction, plays. and composos in Hiligaynon. She has several publications including authorship of the following books: “Sa Taguangkan sang Duta kag Iban Pa nga Sugilanon (2009),” a collection of short stories, and “May Isa ka Kuring nga Hari kag Iban pa nga Sugilanon para sa Kabataan (2010)”, which is a collection of stories for children.  

She also received the 2010 Francisco Baltazar Award for Literature by the Pinoy Icon 2010, which was organized by the Junior Chamber International, SM City Iloilo, and ABS-CBN Iloilo.Prof. Alicia Tan-Gonzales, an associate professor of the Division of Humanities, College of Arts and Sciences, UP Visayas recently placed second in the Palanca Awards Hiligaynon short story category for 2011.

The speaker’s role is to tell the readers and listeners how to be a better wife by following the ten rules.

faithfulness and love of a wife to her husband.

Theme:

This poem is a comparison to the ten commandments which is our God give us.

The author would relayed that as a wife we should love our husband, and no matter what happen if as a wife needs to become martyr, they should do it in the name of love. The woman should become solemn or great-hearted to her family.

IMAGERY:

The poem is similar to the ten commandments of God. The poem Napulo Ka Sugo para sa asawa is a ten commandments that the woman needs to do for her family especially to her husband.

The poem shows the responsibility of a wife to her family and to her husband.

The poem describe the special relationship between brothers and sisters, the love of children for their mother or father, the devotion of a mother for her child, the special relationship between a grandmother and grandfather and their grandchildren.

Reaction:

We reflected on how my experiences and the circumstances we see in many family situations.

After reading the poem, we find it very significant in our lives because our parents do it.
