INTRODUCTION...for ages, in the dark winter nights, the night people crawled out from the forests and the mountain caves to spread fear among the people living in the villages in the valley. From the lake, even darker creatures slunk through the sewer system into the homes of the townsmen. Was it the beer or the cheese which attracted them, or just the desire to satisfy their curiosity? Nobody knew for sure. The villages called for help throughout the Old World. The call was answered when a horde of athletic women arrived, wrapped in tight leather clothes, embroidered with chrome rivets and a crazy look in their eyes. And then it began...

LOCATIONState of VorarlbergVorarlberg is located in Austria‘s very west, neighboring Germany, Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein.

This highly dynamic region is famed for its innovative architecture and rich cultural life. Residents and visitors alike appreciate its scenic splendor, excellent quality of life and top-of-the-range hospitality. Vorarlberg prides itself on abundance of natural beauty stretching between Lake Constance and the over 3,000 m-high mountains. From north to south it extends 100 kilometers. In one-and-a-half hours you can drive from the shores of Lake Constance (400m altitude) to the high alpine regions of the Silvretta and be surrounded by glaciers.

CultureFestivals big and small abound with programs featuring a wide range of theatre, dance and music performances, from classic to pop. With its splendid opera productions on the world’s largest floating stage, the annual Bregenz Festival (in July/August) marks the climax of the cultural year.

EconomyEconomically, Vorarlberg is among Austria’s top performers. At around 60 percent, its export share is the highest among all of Austria’s provinces. The biggest and best known companies headquartered in Vorarlberg are Doppelmayr Lifte, world market leaders in ropeway technology, Blum GmbH (fittings), Alpla (plastic packaging), Zumtobel (light design), Wolford (body wear), and the fruit juice manufacturers Rauch and Pfanner.

As Vorarlberg has set itself the goal of becoming energy-autonomous by 2050, energy efficiency and sparing use of resources take top priority. Numerous projects promote e-mobility. When it comes to generating power, Vorarlberg has long been privileging hydro-electricity.

ArchitectureNowadays Vorarlberg is considered to be a pulsating heartbeat of European architecture. The little land is full of surprises from numerous unusual art projects. What is novel is the incomparable blending of old and new architecture. In

fact, contemporary architecture is what makes it crystal clear just how boldly Vorarlberg marches towards its own future, and how important audacious architecture is to its people.

Both a profound attachment to tradition as well as a readiness to reach out to startlingly new trends beckoning from the future emanate from these buildings. Cooperation with handicrafts is intense. Wood remains the preferred raw material.

Fine EatingTypical local inns or fancy restaurants, Vorarlberg has it all – at consistently high standards of quality and excellent value for money. The recipe for success subscribed to by Vorarlberg’s chefs is a long-standing close collaboration with local producers.

Cheese is surely the most popular specialty of Vorarlberg, particularly the spicy Bergkäse, a hard mountain cheese. It is made by hand on many small dairy farms, often in summer on alpine farmsteads. Some of Vorarlberg’s distilleries are among the best in Austria. The typical Vorarlberg fine brandy is the exquisite Subirer which is distilled from a plain must pear.

General FactsVorarlberg’s towns and villages harmoniously blend tradition and modernity. The capital of Vorarlberg is Bregenz (28,000

inhabitants), although Dornbirn (47,000 inhabitants) and Feldkirch (31,000 inhabitants) have larger populations. Vorarlberg is also distinct in that it is the only state in Austria where the local dialect is not Austro-Bavarian, but rather an Alemannic dialect; it therefore has much more in common culturally with its Alemannic-speaking neighbours Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Swabia than with Bavaria and the rest of Austria.

LOCATIONCity of DornbirnThe largest town in the Rhine valley is considered a shopping town, and the hustle and bustle around the market square and the Church of St Martin, with its many small shops and businesses, certainly supports this reputation. It is not without good reason that boutiques flourish alongside well-known chains and cafés, since the centre is an extremely popular destination for shopping trips.

However, Dornbirn has much more to offer than just that. Some of the highlights are...

Karren/Karren Cable CarWonderful hike and walking routes, breath-taking view of the Rhine Valley The Karren is a very popular meeting place in the region. It is starting point of many beautiful hiking routes but it is also very relaxing just to stay at the Panorama restaurant at an altitude of 976 meters whether to have a meal or just enjoy the view of the Rhine Valley. In just five minutes the cable car will take you high over the roofs of the town giving you a beautiful view of the meeting point of three countries during the day and the sea of light at night.

Rappenloch and Alploch GorgeIn the mountainous area behind Dornbirn two very spectacular jewels of nature are hidden but are well known beyond the region – the Rappenloch and the Alploch gorge. For ten thousands of years the water of the Dornbirner Ach river has eaten its way through the limestone turning it into these two wild romantic ravines. Today it is an awe inspiring sight for the visitors watching the water rushing through the rocks. Adventurous food-bridges take you through the gorge and past extraordinary rock formations.

Rolls Royce MuseumThe largest Rolls-Royce Museum in the world displays around 70 of the most significant Rolls-Royces ever, situated in a historical industrial building. In addition to Phantoms from the 1920s and 1930s, you will find the parade car belonging to the Queen Mum, the touring cars belonging to King George V, Prince of Wales King Edward VIII and vehicles owned by Lawrence of Arabia, Aly Khan, Malcolm Campbell, General Franco and many more.

inatura – Erlebnis NaturschauThe inatura is an interactive exhibition as well as a documentation centre and research facility. The modern museum concept, interesting architecture and child-oriented, interactive presentation of the objects make this revitalised industrial building into an attractive outing.

LOCATIONVenue – Messe DornbirnThe "Messequartier" Dornbirn is located at the Eastern End of Lake Constance, easily accessible by car and public transportation. There are several international airports within one hour of driving. The fairgrounds have hosted many well-know events, which were shown on national TV in Germany and Austria (e.g. Wetten, dass..?").

Indoor as well as outdoor events are staged on an area of 34,000m² (inside) and 18,000m² (outside), including a 2,800m² ice skating area (for the Norse players). The whole area is easily accessible even at grade for the handicapped. For the World Cup we have been offered an inside area of 3000m², with the possibility to switch to the bigger hall 11 with more than 5000m² in case we exceed the 1400 people mark. Free parking would be possible in the Messe-owned, secured parking garage or accross the street next to the Messepark mall.

The foyer of the fairgrounds will be reserved for vendors (miniatures, pitches, t-shirts, dice, etc), information booth and the bar. The main gaming area will be in Hall 13 (good thing we start on a Friday) where the game tables, the organization team and another bar will be located.

9

A state-of-the-art audio system is available to ensure in every squaremeter in the rented area announcements will be audible to all players. A video screen of 4.8m x 2.7m can be seen from all areas of the gaming area to show the game time. Lighting systems used for concerts and other larger events set the mood for the moment (from bright white during the game to blood red for the final minute of the game). A stage of 12m x 7m is large enough to present the winners at the end and other special occasions during the event.

LOCATIONTravel InformationBy CarDornbirn can be reached by car: coming from Switzerland on the A1/A13, coming from Germany on the A96/A7, and from within Austria on the A14/S16.

By TrainIf you choose to come by train, the main station Dornbirn has a good connection to the Austrian (ÖBB), Swiss (SBB) and the German (DB) train system.

By PlaneMost of the coaches will probably come by plane. There are three major airports (Zurich ZRH, Munich MUC and Stuttgart STR) and two minor airports (Friedrichshafen FDH and Memmingen/Munich-West FMM) available. Zurich is the closest major airport (120km, 70min), but Munich offers the majority of the cheaper flights (230km, 130min).

Memmingen might be quite interesting if you fly from London-Standsted or Barcelona-Girona. Please keep in mind that Oktoberfest in Munich is just about at this time of the year. The same is true for the Stuttgart Beer Festival (Cannstatter Volksfest), the second largest annual fest in the world.

If more than 40 people get together a bus shuttle from Munich and/or Zurich can be organized.

We are currently negotiating special rates with Sixt and Hertz car rental. By end of 2018 we will announce these rates. We hope to have these rates available regardless of the airport.

The table below lists some selected airports and the prices found (in Euro) with www.KAYAK.de for travel times October 1-8 (usually Tuesdays and Thursdays are the least expensive travel days) and should only be used as a guideline. The organizers are not responsible for higher air fares.

GOODIESEvent AppThanks to the Bodensee Vorarlberg Tourism Office, we will have a free smartphone App, which will not only provide information about Dornbirn (i.e. maps, events) during the World Cup, but will also show current standings and draws for each round and push notifications to each participant about what table they will play at next. There will also be a search function. Additional functions like a chess clock timer and information about events between rounds may be included as well.

CoinA special commemorative coin will be created for all participants. The coin will be part of the entry fee and will be limited to one per participant.

Pitch & DugoutThe pitch for the World Cup will be a "real grass" (static grass) pitch with 3D dugouts and scoreboard. The pitch can be disassembled to fit in any common sized backpack. The weight of the pitch will be just 200g (7oz.) heavier than the pitch of the new boxed game. The dugouts will be themed based on the special World Cup team. The anticipate price range will be 30-50 Euros. The pictures below demonstrate the slot-and-groove assembly system for the pitch.

ORGANIZATIONSBBM & The TeamSüddeutsche and Schweizer Blood Bowl Meisterschaft (SBBM)Who or what is the SBBM (www.sbbm-turniere.com)? Two years ago, tournament organizers in the Southern German region got together and decided to collaborate with their tournaments. The following year, tournaments from the German speaking part of Switzerland joined, and in the years to come, tournaments from Western Austria will be added as well. For the World Cup, this loose cooperation will be transformed into an official incorporated association in order to have a solid foundation for the organization of such a huge event.

World Cup Organizing TeamThe SBBM World Cup Organizer Team consists of highly qualified and experienced coaches. They are well-known in the international Blood bowl world. Three of them have lived on at least two different continents, two others have lived in at least two different countries and have experienced different Blood Bowl cultures over a long period of time. Spanning a wide variety of real life jobs, each bringing a different skill set to the organizing team, we believe this team has the experience and knowledge to bring this event to life in 2019.

Lichemaster (Mathias Berger) - Bavaria (D)

Cooki (Rene Bürger) - Vorarlberg (A)

Selected ProfilesTojurub

Torsten Blaetter (aka Tojurub) has played BB since 1996, and joined the NAF in 2003 after attending the Chaos Cup in Chicago (his first tournament ever.) He organized his first Blood Bowl tournament in Minneapolis, MN (USA) in 2004 before heading "home" to Europe after a 7 year stint

in the US. After attending several tournaments all across Europe (including the Blood Bowl, Dungeon Bowl, Dutch Open and B7), he started the D-Bowl, which has now been succeeded by the German Team Bowl, as well as the now (in)famous Big Boys Battle in his own backyard. He also was the driving force behind bringing the Southern German tournament organizers together to create the SBBM, which now has expanded to Switzerland as well. After his appointment to NAF Tournament Series Coordinator, his credentials were strong enough to have him appointed NAF Vice-President in early 2016.

Before his Blood Bowl career, he was seriously involved in club basketball, where he organized multi-day tournaments with as many as 500 players in attendance. He also organized U18 and U16 basketball seasons for several years in Southwest Germany. In his spare time, he likes Excel Macro programming and simple website programming, which benefits several NAF tournament series world wide.

Kithor

Alexander Siebenhüner (aka Kithor) started his Blood Bowl career in 1990 with the 2nd edition, organizing and playing in a local league in Germany. After a short break from Blood Bowl between 2000 and 2004, he joined the Botzliga Frankfurt/Main, becoming a founding member

of the Botzliga e.V. and acting as league treasurer until 2012. From 2006 to 2010, he hosted 5 annual Blood Bowl tournaments called the Botz Bembel Bowl to great success and both national and international renown. He was also an active member of the German Eurobowl team from 2005 until 2016, including a role as national team captain in Spain 2008.

Since 2004, Kithor has participated in 101 NAF sanctioned tournaments with an astonishing 558 NAF ranked games. Kithor also has experience in all three NAF World cup tournaments, playing on an English Team as a freebooter in Nottingham 2007 and twice on the German/Swiss team

SBBM BID

17

during Amsterdam 2011 and Lucca 2015. Today, Kithor is still an actively playing member in the NAF community and won the Southern German Blood Bowl Championship in 2016. He has also organized the German team event (together with Twyllenimor) since 2015.

In addition to his playing activities, Kithor has also been an active national NAF tournament director in the southern part of Germany and Switzerland. Kithor is also an active online Blood Bowl player, using both Cyanide and Fumbbl platforms. In summary, Kithor has a wide range of experience in all competitive forms of Blood Bowl, and has established a wide range of friendships and connections while following his passion for the hobby.

Milo

Milo Sharp (aka Milo) began playing Blood Bowl in the late 80s when a friend of his got a copy of the 2nd Edition box set. An influential member of the early online Blood Bowl presence, Milo took over administration of the BBOWL-L mailing list and hostedwww.bloodbowl.net. He also

hosted the infamous 4th Edition chat with Jervis Johnson, where people were able to share their (largely negative) feelings about One-Skill-Per-Action. After this, Milo was invited by Jervis to become a founding member of the Blood Bowl Rules Committee (BBRC), where he served for several years before stepping down for personal reasons and nominating Tom Anders to succeed him.

Milo has played in Blood Bowl leagues since the release of 2nd Edition in the late 1980s, but (aside from a 2nd place appearance in the 2006 Underworld Cup) has only really entered the tournament scene since moving to Switzerland in 2012. Owing to his donation of the bloodbowl.net domain to the NAF, he has a shockingly low NAF ID. You may occasionally run into him online playing Blood Bowl 2 as well. He currently lives outside Zürich with his wife and three of his five children.

Minenbonnie

Since more than ten years, Björn Schumacher (aka Minenbonnie), organizes movies for commercials worldwide. During these productions he usually is in charge of the organization of these events.

2002 was the year when Björn got hooked with Blood Bowl.

He played actively in the Hanau Blood Bowl League (with more than 20 coaches in one division) and is an active

member of the Garage League. Since a few years, he attends national tournaments and until 2019 he plans do so also on the international stage.

Schwager

Christian Schwager works as a freelance Illustrator, Concept Artist, and Graphic Designer. As such, he is responsible for the design and artwork that will be used to promote the event and from which the miniatures will be designed.

Schwager's love affair with Blood Bowl began in 1994

when 3rd Edition was released. He's been hooked ever since. After moving to New Zealand in 1999, he founded the Auckland City Guard Blood Bowl League (ACGBBL), which was renamed the Auckland Blood Bowl Federation (ABBF) two years later, and remains Auckland's longest running league until this day.

In 2004, Christian Schwager and James Hills (Claymore) organized the first Greenstone Cup (New Zealand Championship Tournament). A small, local affair at first, the GSC quickly developed into one of the "big three" tournaments of the New Zealand circuit.

During his time in New Zealand, Christian has created many a logo and miniature concept for various events around Australia and New Zealand. Since June 2016 he is back in Germany and keen to get stuck into the local leagues and tournament scene. The only thing that's stopping him from running to every tournament he can find is that he's a struggling artist and notoriously short on cash.

SUMMARYSummary of the BidThe State of Vorarlberg and the City of Dornbirn were very generous in giving our bid not only substantial financial support but also have supplied us with logistical help. This allows us to cover much of the cost of the venue, who also gave us a significant discount on the rental. The venue is state of the art and the special atmosphere of the hall makes us believe we have the perfect location for the NAF World Cup 2019.

Of course, we are aware that we exceed the exceptionally low fee from the last World Cup, and again, we tip our hats to the organizers of Lucca 2015 for achieving this. We believe that our price is a fair offer compared to other bigger events like the NAFC, Dungeonbowl or Eurobowl.

60 EurosThe fee includes:

9 games of Blood Bowl

lunch for three days

one commemorative coin

Special World Cup dice

shuttle bus from hotel to venue and back

free WiFi at venue

World Cup App

In addition, the fee covers:

hotel rooms for referees Thursday through Monday

lunch for referees

trophies and medals

With Tabletop Arts and Ziterdes, we have two experienced local partners for the project, complementing the organizing team perfectly. Our cost calculation was done very conservatively based on an attendance of 900 coaches, but with the successful relaunch of Blood Bowl by Games Workshop, we expect closer to 1200+ coaches will actually attend. The SBBM World Cup organization team is convinced that we can offer a participation fee of not more than...

As a special feature, we will get national television coverage by the state owned TV channel of ORF Vorarlberg in their daily news show "Vorarlberg heute" (unless urgent world news dictate otherwise.) Worldwide streaming of this show is available.
