Here’s the Deal

Before coming to Shelbyville Middle to teach, Mr. G. had it all! He struck it rich playing

the lottery and built an incredible mansion down on South Beach in Florida. He

spent his days riding jet skis, scuba diving, and laying on the beach, soaking up the

sun.

222

Page 3: Mystery on South Beach

Then one day, he lost EVERYTHING!!!

333

Page 4: Mystery on South Beach

The last thing he remembers is getting hit over the head with a coconut. When he woke, he found himself in a cornfield in Indiana.

Page 5: Mystery on South Beach

Luckily, Mr. Ramsey drove by, on his way home from the Cow Palace. He picked him up and graciously gave him a job here at Shelbyville Middle until he

could figure out what was going on.

Let’s Get Started! On the next slide you will see the floor plan for Gallagher’s Mansion. You will need to visit each room and answer the questions correctly in order to get back something for Mr. G. On a separate sheet of paper you need to write down the room, who’s in it, and what you get for answering the problem correctly.

If you get an answer wrong you will be kicked off the property and forced to answer a different question before being allowed to choose another room from the floor plan.

Move that Bus!

You’re right, it would take a regular crew about 200 days. We’d get it done in around 5. That’s just how we roll.

Give Mr. G. these tools so he can get started on a new mansion in Indiana.

The GarageGallagher kept three cars in his garage, a Jaguar XJ 220, an original Hummer, and a replica of the Bat Mobile. The Jaguar tops out at 217 mph. The Hummer only reaches about 90 mph, and the BatMobile runs up to 180 mph. It is about 240 miles from South Beach to Orlando. Running at top speed, Gallagher made it to Orlando in 2 hours and 40 minutes. Which car did he take?Hummer

Jaguar

BatMobile

Living Room

Gallagher celebrated his 21st birthday in this living room with about 50 of his closest friends. They had a great time, but his buddy realized that they were about to run out of root beer. They had already gone through 15 cases in three hours. They only had five cases left. If they continued to go through root beer at this rate, how many more cases would they have to buy to make sure they had enough for two more hours of partying? A) 10 cases

B) 5 cases

D) 6 cases

C) 12 cases

G) 9 cases

F) 3 cases

E) 4 cases

H) 14 cases

Page 29: Mystery on South Beach

What a party! Tell Mr. G. we apologize for the broken coffee table. That’s the last time we let Joey and Chandler play root beer dodge ball in the house.

Maybe this replacement will make it okay!?

Family Room

Besides the pool, this is definitely the best place to relax. Mr. G. liked to hang out watchin’ baseball on the couch. His favorite team, the Chicago White Sox, currently has a disappointing 5 win, 7 loss record. If they continue to play at this level, what will their record be at the end of the 162 game season? (Round up on the wins and down on the losses)A) 64 wins and 98 losses

B) 82 wins and 80 losses

C) 74 wins and 88 losses

D) 68 wins and 94 losses

Page 32: Mystery on South Beach

68 Wins? Sounds more like the Chicago Cubs!

Why are we talkin’ about stinkin’ baseball anyway? I never really liked that Gallagher guy.

Give him this pack of Stewie’s diapers, and tell him who they’re from!

Recording Studio

Mr. G. had one of the most high tech recording studios in all of Southern Florida. Artists like Akon, Jay Z, Missy Elliot, and Young Jeezy all came begging to use his place. But it wasn’t cheap. Gallagher charged each artist $5000 to use his recording studio for a half hour session. If Jay Z wanted to try and record four or five songs it would take him 3 hours at least. How much would he pay for 3 hours and 45 minutes? A) $37,500

B) $47,500

C) $25,000

D) $20,500

E) $40,500

F) $36,500

Page 35: Mystery on South Beach

It’s a Hard Knock Life.

Too bad Mr. G. lost his way. I feel bad, but at least I don’t have to pay 5 grand every time I want to use his studio!

Keep it real, and make sure he gets this suit.

Dining Room

Dinner is served. Formal dinners were rare in the Gallagher mansion, except on Sundays. Every other week Mr. G. would have his family flown into town for Sunday dinner. You could only imagine how many frequent flyer miles they racked up. Using Northwest Airlines, you earn a free round trip flight anywhere in the continental U.S. after purchasing plane tickets totaling 15,000 miles. Each time Gallagher purchases 8,600 miles worth of tickets. How many times would it take to earn 4 free round-trip flights? (round to the nearest whole week) A) 6 TimesB) 8 Times

C) 7 TimesD) 12 Times

The KitchenRight after Thanksgiving, Mr. G’s cook always puts him on a diet, and for good reason. Last year she tried Weight Watchers. The Weight Watchers diet uses a point system based on calories and grams from fat. For every 50 calories, you use 1 pt. The day after Thanksgiving, Gallagher ate 4 waffles for breakfast (400 calories), a turkey sandwich for lunch (425 calories), and two slices of a meat lover’s stuffed crust pizza for dinner (500 calories per slice). How many points did he rack up?

A) 36 ½ pointsB) 32 points

C) 18 1/4 pointsD) 73 points

Don’t let him fool you. Gallagher is clueless when it comes to dating!

Here are a few tips of what not to do on the first date!

1. Don't get drunk 2. Don't reveal too much personal information 3. Don't go on and on about your ex 4. Don't be late!

Here’s one of my latest bookson dating to give him.

Weight and Workout RoomIf you’re lookin’ to get huge or just to get in shape for your next sport, you should definitely check out Gallagher’s weight room. When the Colts came down to Miami for the Super Bowl, this is where they lifted to prepare for the game. 38 players decided to pump some iron. Only 8 were allowed to lift at a time. If each group lifted for 45 minutes, how long did it take to get all the players in and out?A) 3 hours and 45 minutesB) 3 hours 15 minutesC) 4 hours and 30 minutesD) 3 hours

Page 53: Mystery on South Beach

One word. CHAMPS!

Tell Mr. G. thanks for letting us use his place. It really paid off.

Also, we’ll let him borrow this trophy for awhile, but we’ll need it back when Lucas-Oil Field is done.

The Study

Gallagher started college studying science. In his freshman year, he was required to take an introductory physics class. Unfortunately, he slacked off all year long and paid for it during finals week. He needed to read his entire physics book, cover to cover. The book had 1,254 pages. If he could read 60 pages an hour, how long would it have taken him to read the entire book? (Round up)A) 24 hours

C) 22 hours

F) 21 hours

E) 18 hours

D) 26 hours

B) 28 hours

Page 56: Mystery on South Beach

I know a little something about physics. I practically wrote the book!

He’s lucky I wasn’t his professor. That’d be a tough final.

Give him this study guide, so he won’t have to read the whole book next time.
