    Voice Gateway Overview

    Theory

Example of MyPower VG M6000 to explain voice gateway theory:

    IPPSTN

    G.711 PCMG.723.1 ACELPG.729A CS-ACELP

    Ethernet Media

    Signal

    G.711 PCMAnalog

    H.323 VOP R2 PRI

    VGK2X

    IP phone Analog

In above application mode, the voice gateway works as relay gateway and also as gateway.

  • MyPower VG IP Configuration Manual

Maipu Confidential & Proprietary Information Page 10 of 181

Relay Gateway Mode The network from PSTN/ISDN accesses to gateway via E1 and then accesses IP phone via IP network. The voice gateway connects to PSTN/ISDN network of telecom operators via E1 interface and connects IP network via Ethernet interface. The gateway realizes voice communication of both sides. When the real data from E1 line reaches voice gateway, the processing unit of voice gateway system separates signal and voice media data and then switches. The system first gets caller information from E1 and sends it to gatekeeper to authenticate its ID. After authentication, the system gets the called number. The call is established. System transforms call signal of ISDN PRI or China No.1 of PSTN/ISDN side to H.225 and sends it from IP network. In the opposite direction, H225 of H323 call transfers to ISDN PRI or China No.1. After the setup of call, both parties start voice communication. The system completes the switch function of voice media data format. System compresses voice PCM to G.729 and G.923 and then sends to IP phone. IP phone decompresses it to 64K PCM code and sends it out via voice card. For such voice information sent out by IP phone, IP phone first compresses it to G.729 and G.723 voice and then voice gateway system compresses it to PCM information in PSTN/ISDN network. After the call, the call connection is removed and the gateway focuses on accounting and statistics.

    Access Gateway Mode

Gateway connects to the phone via VOP port. Following is the theory:

VOPIP mode - Analog accesses to voice gateway via VOP port, and after the id

authentication and called information, it sets up logical voice channel with IP phone.

    - Voice gateway transforms voice data to analog signal and sends it to analog for voice terminal output.

    - The voice signal first switches to PCM signal, and then compresses to G.729, G723 signals, finally will be sent to IP phone.

    Circuit switch mode

    - The analog accesses to voice gateway via VOP port and sets up voice channel with analog in PSTN/ISDN after ID authentication and called information.

    - Voice gateway transforms voice data from PSTN/ISDN to analog signal and sends to the phone for terminal output.

    - The PCM signal is sent to PSTN/ISDN network and to other analogs.

After the call, it enters accounting and statistic work. The transform process of media and signal of gateway is the same as

the transform of relay gateway mode.

System Management MyPower VG Gateway Supported Storage Medium & File Type MyPower VG gateway has three storage medium, and the usage is as following: RAM: use as the executing space of application program of MyPower

VG gateway FLASH: use as storage of application program, configuration program,

various record files and BootROM program of MyPower VG gateway EEPROM: use as the storage of usual changed system configuration

files, user information. MyPower VG gateway contains four files for management: MyPower VG gateway application programuse to complete gateway

function, file management and system management. Configuration filehe storage the parameters of system configuration BootROM filestorage the basic data of system initialization Other filessuch as the file for second dialup.

MyPower VG Gateway File System Management MyPower VG gateway constructs a file system based on DOS on flash, use to store the application program (protocol software, driver program), BootROM program of MyPower, and this file system is TFFS (True Flash File System). In file system configuration mode, the system provides a set of commands for management for users.

The file system management of MyPower VG gateway has two aspects: file management and directory management. Because TFFS is based on DOS file system, it doesnt support long file name, the file name accords with the rule of 8.3. 1Examine file equipment information The file system of MyPower VG gateway is on the basis of flash, the TFFS information can be examined via the following commands. In file system configuration mode, execute command volume. In privileged user mode, execute command show file to examine

    files.: gateway# show file descriptors

2File management By using the file management command, user operates all files of TFFS, including: List file (directory) File copy File deletion Examine file content The following is the using range of file management command: 1) list file (directory) Command Description

gateway #filesystem Execute command filesystem to enter file configuration mode

gateway (config-fs)#dir Execute command dir in file configuration mode, and list current all sub directories of the file.

    file copy Command Description

    gateway (config-fs)#copy startup /maipu/newstartup

Copy the file startup, and put the new file name newstartup to the directory of Maipu

    delete file Command Description

gateway (config-fs)#delete startup Delete file startup

The system prompts: The Data of this file will be lost! if OS is deleted, the system will hangup! Please confirm to continue(Yes/No)y Use Y(Yes) to confirm the file is deleted, but use N(No), the operation will be canceled. Examine file content Command Description

gateway (config-fs)#type startup Examine the content of startup

MyPower VG Gateway Directory Management The content of directory management of MyPower VG gateway contains: Print system current route Change current route Set up directory Delete directory The following example is the use range of directory management command:

  • MyPower VG IP Configuration Manual

Maipu Confidential & Proprietary Information Page 37 of 181

print system current route Command Description

    set up directory Command Description

gateway (config-fs)#mkdir maipu Set up directory Maipu

    delete directory Command Description

gateway (config-fs)#rmdir maipu Delete the directory Maipu

Configuration File Management Configure file content and format: The configured file is stored in text file format, and the format is as following: It exits in configuration command format To save storage space of flash equipment, only the commands in

configuration mode is saved at present (including global configuration mode, interface configuration mode, file system configuration mode, access list configuration mode, routing protocol configuration mode and gateway configuration mode).

Load of configuration file: The configuration file of MyPower VG gateway can be edited by text editor (such as tablet) according to format, and then the files will be download to MyPower VG gateway via FTP or TFTP. This operation can be used by end users, and also by remote user via Telnet. Here is an example for download MyPower VG gateway configuration file via FTP: Step 1: Edit configuration file config on PC Step 2: Start up FTP SERVER Step 3: Execute command ftpcopy in file configuration mode, and

download files from computer Command Description

    gateway(config-fs)#ftpcopy A.B.C.D MyPower MyPower1 j:\ config startup

Keywords are PC address, user name, directory, file name and local file name

The purpose of above command is to download config to MyPower VG gateway, and write to TFFS current directory of MyPower VG gateway, named startup. Execute dir command, so we can see there is a new file named startup. It is almost the same to download via TFTP and FTP, but the difference is the computer should operate TFTP SERVER, and the command for MyPower VG gateway is tftpcopy. Step 4: restart up MyPower VG gateway, and execute configuration file startup, and then modify system configuration. 3Save system current configuration After the modification of system configuration, the current configuration can be saved for the parameters of next startup of MyPower VG gateway. Command Description

    gateway#copy running-config startup-config

    Save current configuration to STARTUP

    Use the command: Command Description

gateway #write Save current configuration to STARTUP

Save the configuration to remote host computer via TFTP: Command Description

    gateway #copy running-config tftp A.B.C.D c o n f i g

A.B.C.D is the address of remote host computer, the saved file name is config.

Save the configuration file of remote host computer to STARTUP of MyPower VG gateway via TFTP: Command Description

    gateway #copy tftp A.B.C.D config startup-config

A.B.C.D is the name of remote host computer, and config is the source name of the file.

Examine current operating position of MyPower VG gateway: Command Description

gateway #show running-config Examine current operating positon of MyPower VG gateway.

System Tools Show Command The system command show can examine the following information: System software and hardware resource information System statistics information System configuration information System basic information gateway#show ?
