MY HYDERABAD

I have been a part of this 400 years old historic city of Charminar for the last 40 years. A true mulki, I have grown very fond of this city and haveimbibedits cultures and values. Hyderabad is a mix of fast paced corporate life to the old nawabinafasat. You can create your own pace of life and mix with the locals from all walks of life. A walk down the busy street of Banjara Hills and you can come across people from all regions, community and classes. With MehmoodHindi widely spoken, a tourist would not feel out of place shopping or travelling here.

The warmth and simplicity of the people is endearing and their hospitality is unmatched in India. Hyderabad is blessed with great weather most of the time of the year. The hilly cityscapes with its delicately balanced rock formations are a delight to nature lovers.

My relatives, friends and acquaintances planning to visit Hyderabad often call me for same information about thecity so that in a short time they can experience the best of Hyderabad.

1) For Lovers Of History A Must See

CharminarMohammad QuliQutub Shah, the founder of Hyderabad, built Charminar in 1591. It was a set to have been built as a charm to ward off a deadly epidemic raging at that time. Located in the old city of Hyderabad, Charminar stands tall with four graceful minerates, 45 prayer spaces and a mosque in it.

Salarjung Museum This museum houses one of the biggest one man collections of decorative arts and antiques by Mir Yousuf Ali Khan, Salar Jung III. The museum is well renowned for their collection of calligraphy. My personal favorite are the white marbled statue of the Veiled Rebecca, the wooden two sided statue of Marguerite and Mephistopheles, Jade collection, the textile room and the big fat clock. Chowmahalla PalaceThis complex comprises of four palaces in Mughal and European styles. This is now one of the heritage buildings. The places to see are silver Durbar Hall, textile exhibition at AftabMahal and vintage car exhibition Location: 10am – 5pm (Friday close)

Golconda Fort The name of famous Golconda Fort originates from the Telegu Word “GollaKonda” which means Shepherd’s Hill. It was originally a mud fort. The fort was famous for its acoustics, palaces, ingenious water supply system. Paigah TombsIt is a confluence of Mughal and Rajasthani styles of architecture. The predominant material used was lime, granite, bricks and wood. It houses the tombof Paigah family Location: Old city, 10 km from Charminar

Ramoji Film City Created on a sprawling 1500 acres with 60 gardens, it is a dream world created for the celluloid. Visitors can have conducted tours of the film sets. Indian School Of Business (ISB)A beautiful campus spread over 300 acres, it is a premier business institution in India. The school has collaboration with Wharton Business School, Kellogg Business School and London Business School. The main building has a Turkish architecture made up of red dholpurstone. 2) Places Of Worship

Srisailam Temple city

Located on the South Bank of river Krishna is the temple housing one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in the country called the BrahrabmbhaMallikarjuna Temple. This ancient Kshetra of India is located 235km away from Hyderabad and the driving time is between 4-5 hours. If you start early in the morning, you could do the darshan and be back the same day. If you want to do the morning arti, you could stay at Harita Hotel (Ph No: 08524288311).

Birla TempleThis white marble temple of Venkateshwara, floats on the city skyline on Kala Paahad. It houses an idol which is the replica of one at Tirupati.

ChilkurBalaji Temple

Famously known as the Visa Temple, it houses the deity of Shree BalajiVenkateshwara. It is believed that if you do 108 parikrama, your wishes are fulfilled. It is a 500 years old temple built for the followers of BhaktaRamdas. It is situated at Chilkur near HimmayatSagar at Gandipet.

Sri Jagganath Temple

A replica of the Jagganathji temple in Puri, it is made by the Kalinga Cultural Trust. It is next to TelenganaBhavan in Banjara Hills.

Falaknuma Palace HotelBuilt by VikarulUmraBahadur, a Paigah noble, this palace has now been converted into a heritage hotel. With an Italian and an Indian restaurant, this is a connoisseur’s delight.
