  • Murray Gell-MannBorn September 15th, 1929 in New York City.Got his B.Sc. At Yale University in 1949.In 1952, got his Ph.D. Ph.D. was from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.Yale Massachusetts Institute of Tech.

  • PhysicsFormulated the quark model of hadronic resonances.Identified the SU(3) flavor symmetry of light quarks.Created current algebra in 1960.Responsible for see-saw theory of neutrino masses. Quark model

  • PhysicsDiscovered the sigma model of pions.Kept string theory going throughout the 1970s.With help of others they discovered, Quantum Chromodynamics. That was in 1984.

  • The Quark ModelElementary particle and a fundamental constituent of matter. Quarks combine to form composite particles called hadrons. There are six types of quarks -up -down -charm -strange -top - bottom

  • The Quark ModelUp and Down has lowest masses.Charm, strange, top, and bottom only produced in..High energy collisions.(Involving cosmic rays and particle accelerators.)

  • The Quark ModelQuarks have carious intrinsic properties. -Electric charge -Color charge -Spin

    -Mass

  • The Quark ModelClassified as the Eightfold Way.Gell-Mann and George Zweig proposed it in 1964.It wasnt until 1977 it was official.Named it after the sound made by ducks.

  • Murray Gell-MannMarried in 1992, to Marcia Southwick.After she died he married again to J.Margaret Dow.Had 3 children.1 girl and 2 boys.
