MURAL COMMISSION OPPORTUNITY HAWAIIAN’S MEZZ, MOUNT HAWTHORN INTRODUCTION The City of Vincent, Mount Hawthorn Hub, and Hawaiian’s Mezz and are seeking expressions of interest from artists for a new mural artwork. The Hawaiian’s Mezz shopping centre is located in the busy town centre of Mount Hawthorn and is a hub of community activity both day and night. Mount Hawthorn Hub is a not-for-profit community group made up of passionate locals. The hub brings together local residents and business who want to maintain the unique identity of Mount Hawthorn and make it a welcoming place to live, work and play. The available mural space is in a prominent location, located on the side of the busy and popular The Mezz Shopping Centre and visible from the high- traffic Scarborough Beach Road. MURAL COMMISSION OPPORTUNITY HAWAIIAN’S MEZZ,

MOUNT HAWTHORN

INTRODUCTIONThe City of Vincent, Mount Hawthorn Hub, and Hawaiian’s Mezz and are seeking expressions of interest from artists for a new mural artwork.

The Hawaiian’s Mezz shopping centre is located in the busy town centre of Mount Hawthorn and is a hub of community activity both day and night.

Mount Hawthorn Hub is a not-for-profit community group made up of passionate locals. The hub brings together local residents and business who want to maintain the unique identity of Mount Hawthorn and make it a welcoming place to live, work and play.

The available mural space is in a prominent location, located on the side of the busy and popular The Mezz Shopping Centre and visible from the high-traffic Scarborough Beach Road.

LOCATION AND DIMENSIONS The mural will be painted on the external wall of the shopping centre building on an area measuring approximately 10m x 3m.

MATERIALS The artist must consider that the work may fade over time in direct sunlight, thus all measures should be taken to try and avoid this. Applying a long-lasting exterior paint such as Dulux Weatherguard is preferred.

ARTIST RESPONSIBILITIES The successful artist will be required to:• Manage the delivery of the

artwork commission• Undertake the design

development and documentation of the artwork commission

• Paint the work onto the building using a long-lasting exterior paint

• Hold a public liability insurance policy (minimum $20 million), product liability ($20 million) and professional indemnity ($5 million)

• Provide documentation listing the paint types and colours used

BUDGET The total artwork budget for the mural is $10,000 excluding GST. This covers all costs associated with the practical application of the mural including:• Artist fee: meetings, research,

design development and project management

• Fees for assistants/sub-contractors if required

• Image copyright clearance or payment fees

• Administration and documentation

• Travel requirements• Materials and labour• Installation equipment

ARTIST SUBMISSION AND CRITERIA Interested Artists will need to submit the following:• 3–6 images of previous

mural work • A short written description of the

artwork concept and theme• A CV showing previous artistic

experience • Contact details

Submissions must be sent to [email protected] with the subject title ‘Hawaiian’s Mezz Mural EOI’ by 1pm on Monday, 14 February 2020.

Artists who are shortlisted will then be asked to provide:• Confirmation of availability

including a works schedule • Drawings/sketches/digital

concept design of the mural artwork

• Itemised budget• Proof of relevant insurances for

the project or stated intention regarding insurances

Shortlisted artists will be paid a fee of $250 plus GST for their design concepts.

Selection Criteria:• Quality of work as demonstrated

in the visual support material• Response to the brief and site• Ability to meet the budget and

provide value for money

One submission will be chosen for the commission. The selection from the shortlisted artists will made using the above criteria. The successful artist/s will be contracted and the artwork should commence shortly after.

TIMEFRAME • Call out opened Monday, 3 February 2020• EOIs close Friday, 14 February 2020• Shortlisted artists notified Friday, 21 February 2020• Design concepts due Friday, 6 March 2020• Artist selection and notification Friday, 27 March 2020• Commencement As soon as possible following selection
