Make sure that there is enough space around the system to facilitate changing of parts, maintenance and clearing paper jam.If there is insufficient space, some operations, such as bypass feeding, will become difficult and the Multifunctional Digital Color Systems could even break down.To insure optimal operation, allow clearances of at least 31.5" / 80 cm on the right, and 3.9" / 10 cm on the left and behind.

The socket outlet shall be installed near the equipment and be easily accessible.

Be sure to fix and plug in the power cable securely after the installation so that no one trips over it.

About Installation

Before installing the printer driver on your computer, read this section to understand the installa-tion.

System RequirementsTo install the printer drivers on a Windows computer, the following is required:

When using the GA-1211-EX/E-EX, you cannot use SMB printing.

The following describes an installation on Windows Vista. The procedure is the same when other versions of Windows are used.

1 Open the printer in the network with Windows Explorer, and dou-ble-click a queue in which the printer driver should be installed.

When you are using Window Vista, proceed to the next step.When you are using Windows operating system other than Windows Vista, proceed to step 4.

When you are using Windows 2000, select a queue in which the printer driver should be installed and right-click to make the menu appear, then click [Connect].

direct - print jobs are sent straight to the printer without spooling.You cannot change the order of print jobs by moving them, which are sent to this queue.print - print jobs are spooled to the hard disk in the printer and printed out. Use this queue for general printing.hold - print jobs are held until users operate copying or moving them to the Print queue with the job management tools.

PREPARATIONS:Before installing the printer driver to use SMB printing, please make sure of the following:

If a previous version of the printer driver has been installed on the system, it must be removed. (For instructions on how to remove the printer driver, refer to the Printing from Windows.)The printer is connected to the network and turned on.The TCP/IP setting is completed correctly.The Windows Printing is completed correctly.

2 The Printers dialog box asking you to install the printer driver is displayed. Click [Install driver].

The [User Account Control] dialog box appears.

3 Click [Continue].

The printer driver is installed and the print queue screen appears.

The installed printer driver varies depending on the Set Driver Type setting. When the Set Driver Type setting is set to “PCL”, the PCL printer driver is installed. When the Set Driver Type setting is set to “PS”, the PS printer driver is installed.For details on the Set Driver Type setting, refer to the Configuration and Setup.

4 Continue the operation to configure the option settings on the printer driver.



Installing the Printer Driver for LPR Printing

To install the printer driver to use LPR printing, configure the LPR port first, and then install the printer driver using the installer in the User Software (Drivers).The following describes an installation on Windows Vista. The procedure is the same when other versions of Windows are used.

1 Click [Start], select [Control Panel] and click [Printer] under [Hard-ware and Sound] to open the Printers folder.

If you are using the Windows 2000, click [Start], select [Settings], and click [Printers] to open the Printers folder.If you are using the Windows XP / Windows Server 2003, click [Start] and click [Print-ers and Faxes] to open the Printers and Faxes folder.

PREPARATIONS:Before installing the printer driver to use LPR printing, please make sure of the following:

The printer is connected to the network and turned on.The TCP/IP setting is completed correctly.The LPD Printing is completed correctly.The TCP/IP protocol is installed and configured correctly on your Windows 2000 / Windows XP / Windows Vista / Windows Server 2003.

REQUIREMENTS:To perform installation, you must log onto Windows with the “Administrator” account or “Power User” account.



2 Click [Add a printer].

The [Add Printer] dialog box appears.

3 Select [Add a local printer].

4 Select [Create a new port], select [Standard TCP/IP Port] in the [Type of port] box, and click [Next].


5 Select [TCP/IP Device] in the [Device type] box, enter the IP address of the printer in the [Hostname or IP address] box, and click [Next].

When you are using Windows Vista and the IP address specified in step 5 is correct, the [Install the printer driver] screen appears. Proceed to step 9.When you are using Windows Vista and the IP address specified in step 5 is not cor-rect, the [Additional Port Information Required] screen appears. Proceed to the next step.When you are using Windows operating system other than Windows Vista, the [Addi-tional Port Information Required] screen appears. Proceed to the next step.

When you use a WINS server, enter the print server name of the printer provided from the WINS server in the [Hostname or IP address] box.In the [Port name] box, the port name is automatically entered according to the IP address or printer name entered in the [Hostname or IP address] box.

6 Select [Custom] and click [Settings].

The [Configure Standard TCP/IP Port Monitor] dialog box appears.



7 Select [LPR] in the [Protocol] option, enter a queue name into the [Queue Name] box in the [LPR Settings] option, and click [OK].

Select one of the followings that you want to use for the [Queue Name] box depend-ing on how you want to print.- print - print jobs are spooled to the hard disk in the printer and printed out. Use

this queue for general printing.- direct - print jobs are sent straight to the printer without spooling.

You cannot change the order of print jobs by moving them, which are sent to this queue.

- hold - print jobs are held until users operate copying or moving them to the Print queue with the job management tools.

You can also enable the LPR Byte Counting by selecting the [LPR Byte Counting Enabled] check box.


If you have enabled Port 9100 printing at the printer’s control panel, you can set up Port 9100 printing as well. When you want to set up Port 9100 printing, select [Raw] at the [Protocol] option, and enter the port number in the [Port Number] box at the [Raw Settings] option. The port number is different for each print connection as fol-lowing:- 9101 - use direct queue for printing.- 9100 (default) or 9102 - use print queue for printing.- 9103 - use hold queue for printing.

8 Click [Next].



9 Click [Have Disk].

The [Install From Disk ]dialog box appears.

10 Insert the User Software (Drivers) into the DVD-ROM drive.

11 Click [Browse].

The [Locate File] dialog box appears.

12 Locate the directory where the printer driver that you want to install is located, select the oemsetup.inf file, and click [Open].

13 Click [OK].

14 Select the printer driver and click [Next].

15 Change the name as required, and select whether using this printer as a default printer, then click [Next].

When you are using Windows Vista, the [User Account Control] dialog box appears. Proceed to the next step.When you are using Windows operating system other than Windows Vista, proceed to step 18.

16 Click [Continue].

The [Windows Security] dialog box appears.

17 Click [Install this driver software anyway].

The [Add Printer] dialog box reappears.


18 Click [Print a test page].

A test page is printed.

The [Printer Sharing] dialog box may appear prior to this step. In this case, select whether to share the printer with network clients, and click [Next] to proceed to this step.

19 Make sure that a test page is printed successfully and click [Close] to close the screen.

20 Click [Finish].

The installation is now complete.





Installing the Printer Driver for IPP Printing

To install the printer driver to use IPP printing, install the printer driver by Add Printer Wizard.The following describes an installation on Windows Vista. The procedure is the same when other versions of Windows are used.



PREPARATIONS:Before installing the printer driver to use IPP printing, please make sure of the following:

The printer is connected to the network and turned on.The TCP/IP setting is completed correctly.The TCP/IP protocol is installed and configured correctly on your Windows 2000 / Windows XP / Windows Vista / Windows Server 2003.

REQUIREMENTS:To perform installation, you must log onto Windows with the “Administrator” account or “Power User” account.


2 Click [Add a printer].

The Add Printer dialog box appears.

If you are using the Windows 2000, double-click the [Add Printer] icon to open the [Add Printer Wizard] dialog box.If you are using the Windows XP / Windows Server 2003, click [Add a Printer] in the [Printer Tasks] to open the Add Printer Wizard dialog box.

3 Select [Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer].

If you are using the Windows 2000 / Windows XP / Windows Server 2003, select [A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer], click [Next] and proceed to step 5.

4 Select [The printer that I want isn't listed].



5 Select [Select a shared printer by name], enter “http://[IP address]/ipp/[queue name]” in the edit box, and click [Next].

If you are using the Windows 2000 / Windows XP / Windows Server 2003, select [Connect to a printer on the Internet or on your intranet], enter "http://[IP address]/ipp/[queue name]" in the [URL] box, and click [Next].

Enter the IP address of the printer instead of [IP address].Select one of the followings that you want to use for [queue name] depending on how you want to print.- print - print jobs are spooled to the hard disk in the printer and printed out. Use

this queue for general printing.- direct - print jobs are sent straight to the printer without spooling.


- hold - print jobs are held until users operate copying or moving them to the Print queue with the job management tools.

Example: IP address = 172.16.16.150Queue = printhttp://172.16.16.150/ipp/print

When you use the WINS server, enter the print server name of the printer instead of [IP address].

Example:Print Server Name = Server-907043Queue = printhttp://Server-907043/ipp/print



The [Install From Disk] dialog box appears.


8 Click [Browse].






10 Click [OK].

11 Select the printer driver and click [OK].

When you are using Windows Vista, the [User Account Control] dialog box appears. Proceed to the next step.When you are using Windows operating system other than Windows Vista, proceed to step 14.











12 Click [Continue].

The [Windows Security] dialog box appears.

13 Click [Install this driver software anyway].

The [Add Printer] dialog box reappears.

14 Select whether using this printer as a default printer and click [Next].



15 Click [Print a test page].

A test page is printed.

16 Make sure that a test page is printed successfully and click [Close] to close the screen.

17 Click [Finish].

The installation is now complete.




Installing the Printer Driver for Novell Printing

You cannot print through the NetWare print server from Windows Vista.

The following describes an installation on Windows XP. The procedure is the same when Win-dows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 is used.

PREPARATIONS:Before installing the printer driver to use Novell printing, please make sure of the following:

The printer is connected to the network and turned on.The TCP/IP setting is completed correctly. (Required only when you want to use Fiery WebSetup or using the printer with NetWare server 5.x in the TCP/IP network.)The IPX/SPX and NetWare settings are completed correctly.

REQUIREMENTS:The NetWare server is configured correctly and running on your network.The TCP/IP protocol is installed and configured correctly on your Windows computer. (Required only when using the NetWare server 5.x in the TCP/IP network.)The NWLink IPX/SPX Compatible Transport protocol and NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol are installed on your Windows computer. (Required only when using the Net-Ware server in the IPX/SPX network.)The Gateway (and Client) Services for NetWare is installed on your Windows computer.You have an appropriate privilege to access to the NetWare server.



1 Open the NetWare server (when using in bindery mode) or NDS directory tree (when using in NDS or NDPS mode) in the Network Neighborhood with the Windows Explorer, and double-click a queue.

When using the NetWare 5.x in NDPS mode and the printer drivers for each Operat-ing System are installed to a NDPS broker, the printer driver is automatically installed.Unless using the NetWare 5.x in NDPS mode and printer drivers for each Operating System are installed to a NDPS broker, the [Add Printer Wizard] dialog box appears. Continue to the next step.

Select a queue depending on how you want to print.- [given name]_print - print jobs are spooled to the hard disk in the printer and

printed out. Use this queue for general printing.- [given name]_direct - print jobs are sent straight to the printer without spooling.


- [given name]_hold - print jobs are held until users operate copying or moving them to the Print queue with the job management tools.

The queue names created on the NetWare server should be either “[given name]_print”, “[given name]_direct”, “[given name]_hold” ([given name] can be any name). Those queues correspond to the printer’s queues, Print, Direct, and Hold.

2 Click [OK].

The [Add Printer Wizard] dialog box appears.



The [Install From Disk] dialog box appears.


5 Click on [Browse].






7 Click [OK].


8 Select the printer driver and click [OK].

The printer driver is installed.

Configuring the Option

After you complete the installation of printer drivers, you should configure the option settings on the printer driver. There are two methods to configure the options;

When the printer and your computer is not connected in the TCP/IP V4 network, you can configure the options manually.

The following describes an operation on Windows Vista. The procedure is the same when other versions of Windows are used.



For SMB Printing:When users install the printer driver for SMB printing, only a user who log into the computer or domain using the user name “Administrator” can configure the option settings on the printer driver. The options settings which are set by the “Administrator” are automatically applied to the other users’ printer driver for SMB printing.

2 When configuring the options on the PS printer driver, right-click the printer driver icon and select [Properties] from the menu.

The printer driver properties dialog box appears.

When configuring the options on the PCL printer driver, right-click the printer driver icon and select [Printing Preferences] from the menu in order to open the printer driver print-ing preferences dialog box.



3 Select the [Accessories] tab, select the option under [Available Options] box, and click [Add].

Added options are displayed in the [Installed Options] box. Repeat the operation to add all options installed on the equipment.

4 Click [OK] to save settings.



Configuring the Options AutomaticallyWhen the printer and your computer is connected in the TCP/IP V4 network, you can configure the options automatically obtaining the settings using the Two-Way Communication function.



2 Right-click the printer driver icon and select [Properties] from the menu.

The printer driver properties dialog box appears.


3 Select the [Accessories] tab, select the [Two-Way Communication] check box, and enter the IPv4 address or DNS Name in the [Printer IP Address or DNS Name] box. Then click [Update].

When you installed the printer driver for SMB printing, the [Two-Way Communication] check box has been selected and the DNS Name has been entered in the [Printer IP Address or DNS Name] box.

4 Click on [OK] to save settings.

About Installation

Before installing the printer driver on your computer, read this section to understand the installa-tion.

System RequirementsTo install the printer drivers on a Macintosh computer, the following is required:

OSThe latest version of Mac OS X 10.3 / 10.4 / 10.5Memory256MB or more


Installing the Printer Driver

To install the printer driver to a Macintosh computer, follow the procedure below:Installing the PPD Files to your Macintosh computer

Installing the PPD filesThe following describes an installation on Mac OS X 10.4.11. The procedures is the same when other versions of Mac OS X are used.

1 Insert the User Software (Drivers) into the DVD-ROM drive.The [User_Software] icon appears on the desktop.

2 Double-click the [OSX installer] icon located in the “OSX/Printer Driver” folder in the User Software (Drivers).

The [Authenticate] dialog box appears.

3 Enter the user name and password that has an administrator privi-lege, and click [OK].

The [License] screen appears.

4 Click [Accept].

The [OSX installer] screen appears.



5 Click [Install].

It starts copying files.

6 Click [Quit]


Creating the PrinterThe procedure to create the printer differs depending on the version of Macintosh used.

Creating the printer on Mac OS X 10.3 to 10.4

1 Start the Printer Setup Utility that is located in the “Applications/ Utilities” folder in the Boot Disk.

The [Printer List] screen appears.

2 Click [Add].

When you are using Mac OS X 10.4, the [Printer Browser] screen appears. Proceed to step 4.

3 Select [AppleTalk] and select the zone name that the printer is located.

If the AppleTalk network is not configured with a zone, select [Local AppleTalk Zone].



4 Select the printer displayed in the list.

Select one of the followings depending on how you want to print. ([Server Name] is the printer name.)- [Server Name]_Print - print jobs are spooled to the hard disk in the printer and

printed out. Use this queue for general printing.- [Server Name]_Direct - print jobs are sent straight to the printer without spooling.


- [Server Name]_Hold - print jobs are held until users operate copying or moving them to the Print queue with the job management tools.


5 Select [Toshiba] in the [Print Using] box.

6 Select either [GA-1211/E], [GA-1211-EX/E-EX], or [GA-1310/E] in the [Model] list and click [Add].

The printer is added to the [Printer Name] List.



7 Select the printer that you have created, and select [Show Info] in the [Printers] menu.

The [Printer Info] screen appears.

The following operation also allows you to display the [Printer Info] screen:Select the printer that you have created, and click the [Show Info] icon.

8 Select [Installable Options].

The [Installable Options] window appears.


9 Select each option according to the configuration of the printer.

1 Open System Preferences and click [Print & Fax].

The [Print & Fax] screen appears.

2 Click [+].



3 Select the printer displayed in the list.

Select one of the followings depending on how you want to print. ([Server Name] is the printer name.)- [Server Name]_Print - print jobs are spooled to the hard disk in the printer and

printed out. Use this queue for general printing.- [Server Name]_Direct - print jobs are sent straight to the printer without spooling.


- [Server Name]_Hold - print jobs are held until users operate copying or moving them to the Print queue with the job management tools.

4 Select [Select a driver to use] in the [Print Using] box.


5 Select either [GA-1211/E], [GA-1211-EX/E-EX], or [GA-1310/E] in the list and click [Add].

The printer is added to the [Printers] list.

6 Click [Options & Supplies].

The [General] menu appears.



7 Click [Driver].

The [Driver] menu appears.


8 Select each option according to the configuration of the printer, and click [OK].

You will be returned to the screen containing the [Printers] list.

Printing a BookletWhen you want to print a booklet from a portrait document or a landscape document, follow the procedure below.

1 Click on the [File] menu from an application, and select [Print].

2 Select [Printer Features].

3 Select [Finishing 1] in the [Feature Sets] box and select [Reverse] in the [Page Order] box.

4 Select [Collate] in the [Sorter Mode] box.

The following information does not always guarantee for that all applications can perform the booklet printing from a Macintosh computer.
