WhatareMudras?

AccordingtotheVediccultureofancientIndia,ourentireworldismadeof‘thefiveelements’calledasThe Panch-Maha-Bhuta’s.The five elements beingEarth,Water,Fire,Wind and Space/Vacuum.Theyarealsocalledtheearthelement,waterelement,fireelement,windelementandspaceelement.

Thesefiveelementsconstitutethehumanbody–thenutrientsfromthesoil(earth)areabsorbedbytheplantswhichweconsume(thuswesurviveontheearthelement),thebloodflowingthroughownveinsrepresents thewaterelement, thebodyheatrepresents thefireelement, theoxygenweinhaleandthecarbondioxideweexhalerepresents thewindelementand thesinuseswehave inournoseandskullrepresentthespaceelement.

As long as these five elements in our body are balanced andmaintain appropriate levelswe remainhealthy.Animbalanceoftheseelementsinthehumanbodyleadstoadeterioratedhealthanddiseases.

Nowunderstandthis,thecommandandcontrolcenterofallthesefiveelementsliesinourfingers.Soliterally,ourhealthliesatourfingertips.

TheMudrahealingmethodthatIamgoingtoteachyoudependsonourfingers.

Tounderstandthis,weshouldfirstknowthefinger-elementrelationship:

Thumb–Fireelement.

Indexfinger–Windelement.

Middlefinger–Space/Vacuumelement.

Thirdfinger–Earthelement.

Smallfinger–Waterelement.

Thisimagewillgiveyouabetterunderstandingoftheconcept:

When the fingersarebrought together ina specificpatternandare touched toeachother,or slightlypressedagainsteachother,theformationiscalledasa‘Mudra’.

WhenthefivefingersaretouchedandpressedinapeculiarwaytoformaMudra,itaffectsthelevelsofthefiveelementsinourbody,thusbalancingthoseelementsandinducinggoodhealth.

Then interlace and bend theRing fingers and the Little fingers of both the hands (see to it that thefingersarefoldedinwards,withinthepalms).

ExtendouttheMiddlefingersandjointhetipsofboththeMiddlefingersandpressslightly.

NowjointhetipsoftheIndexfingerstothetipsoftheThumbs,forminginterlockingcircles(Refertheimage).
