We have practiced writing letters and words and

sentences, now let’s write a journal entry.

A journal entry is like a little story about you!

Journal WritingWriting in a journal is a great way to write what you are feeling or what is going on

in your life.

Journal entries are kept together in a notebook or clip. Journal entries

are a good way to remember things that have happened to you.

If I were to write a journal entry today, here is

what it might look like.

November 2, 2010Today was warm. I like to play outside when it is warm. I played soccer and baseball with the kids that live near me.

At the top of your journal entry,

write the date.

Here’s a song about the months of the

year!Your journal entry

should have a date at the top!

There are 12 months in a year.

Remember to use capital letters at the

beginning of sentences and

punctuation at the end of sentences.

Always do your best to sound out words and spell them correctly.

Journal entries can be long or

short. Just write what you feel!

Here is a journal entry I

wrote about my day at school.

December 1, 2010Today was a fun day at

school. We watched a movie. The movie had a talking mouse in it. It must be a fiction story because a mouse can not talk. I liked the movie.

Here is a journal entry I

wrote about my feelings.

December 2, 2010Today I felt sad. My friend did not want to play with me. I do not like it when I am left out. I will try to play with my friend again tomorrow.

What I expect of youWrite a journal entry and share it with your class.

Write another journal entry and share it with someone

you love.

Write a third journal entry and keep it for yourself.

See you again soon!
